  • I went into PANIC MODE when i thought i had lost my casette tape of this version My favorite song EVER want it played at my funeral

  • I remember taping this concert off the radio and lots of memories of EC at Albert's. I think the 24 Nights period was a highpoint in Clapton's playing, along with From the Cradle: impeccable phrasing and power. Thanks for this!

  • This is a good rendition, but I prefer the one with "Eric Clapton and friends" you can feel the emotion better. Thanks for this post, I did enjoy it. As always he sold the guitar lead beautifully.

  • "Rose and Pat" referred to his Gran and Mum.

  • I liked the way the guitar solo came in later than normal allowing the orchestration to flourish for a few bars showing the orchestra nights to be a real collaberation between Michael kamen and Eric Clapton.

  • Yes, the full orchestra treatment lends something nice to this performance. I was at the 24 Nights gigs: I caught the rock band night and the orchestra night and each had a special vibe. For another nice version of Holy Mother, check out Clapton in Hyde Park, where he opts for a gospel choir to back up the band - very good concert!

  • Fuckin Brill thanks for sharing i'm just having a little weep

  • Ross & Pat? Presumably he is referring to his 'two mothers' Rose Clapp & Patricia Clapton

  • @anthonythirteen Christ, is that who he dedicated it to?!?! I thought he said it was dedicated to "Rosa Parks"!!!! Freekin accents!!! 2 countries separated by a common language, I swear!!

  • EC tends to have a generic London accent - hence it sounds like 'Rosen Pat'.

In his biog he says this was written whilst he was struggling with his alcoholism & his messed up life (split from Pattie, fathering children all around the world, his inability to come to terms with his family background).

Holy Mother wasn't a specific religious character (i.e. Mary), but was a cry from a very troubled soul.

    Hence its so moving.

great sole from eric, inspired indeed

  • Nice warm rendition of a great classic!

Clapton's ending solo is full of inspiration, the NPO under Michael Kamen's guidance gives an almost different feel to this amazing AUGUST classic.
