I was there. the final was just so intense. this is the race of rallycross like the daytona 500 is for nascar. the spectators there are just amazing. I still gives me goosebumbs when I think at the moment when the cars start and the commentator is just going nuts! I was hell of an experience

It's a joker lap. It's a kind of detour every driver must make once during a race, so it's not really a lap, despite the name. Ususally, the joker lap contains a series of slow, technical corners.

here in north america, rally anything takes a back burner to nascar or boring drag racing. ive been a rally fan since i was a little kid, no one could figure out why i liked little hatches so much......coming from a land of big pick up trucks and SUV's i was a loner in that sort. hatchbacks are the best design of car hands down, for versatility cargo and FUN!. my first was a 79' mk1 gti on porsche cookie cutters throttle bodies and straight pipes........great upload, seen it many times.

But like all cars the price depends on age, performance and its track record. Cant say how much to build your own from scratch... but you need a brand new car then all the parts, then labour and set up etc so.... alot of money lol

I originally read about it on the RA site in October last year, so you should still find the article on there.

I understand they have three European style (wheel-to-wheel) rallycross events planned to take place in the months after X-Games, all three events will be held at New Jersey Motor Sports Park.

If the events go well, RA have said they will consider running a full US rallycross season in 2011.

X Games are the Olympics of extreme sports. They have a summer and winter event each year. Look up X Games on Wikipedia, and search for "X Games Rally" on YouTube. X Games hosts events like skateboarding, snowboarding, motocross, BMX, and most recently "Stadium Rally". We also have traditional stage rally in the USA, but it is not popular with the mainstream like it is in Europe.

I don't think the off-road motorcycle courses would accommodate a car...

essentially, in european rally cross there is a new system called a 'joker' lap. This is an extra section of track which adds roughly 2 seconds to the lap time. Every driver has to do this lap at least once, and it makes for some very entertaining finales to the races.

That explains it perfectly. I think it is brilliant. Again, I just wish we had this sport in the USA. Rally is gaining popularity thanks to the X Games. I think Rallycross would be received well, but unfortunately we do not have any venues setup to support an event like this.
