I guess you think Austria and Hungary don't make sense as a pairing either? o.0 You only need to read some basic Nordic history to figure out why SwedenxFinland and DenmarkxNorway are the most common pairings. To simplify for most of our history we were seperated in a south-west north-east divide. And quite literally seperated since Swedes and Danes have been enemies throughout most of our history. Who do you think Sweden should be paired with? o.o

The only actual tension towards Swedes is amongst fjortisar (Swedish word for immature teenagers) who link Swedes and Sweden to pakkoruotsi. @mieroth Ha, I live in Finland. But it's true that people are mostly just kidding about the "Swede hate". Doesn't mean it's not there though. We don't want to lose to Sweden. And we really dislike the SuFin-pairing. I like Swedish and Sweden though ^^

And considering how Finns feel about Russia that's one hell of an insult. o.o And I know about attitudes towards Sweden in sports - rivalries are common in the Nordics.

@mieroth Wow this was a long time, but whatever. It doesn't make sense to me because Finland was, under Swedish reign, never a country of "his" own. Not like The Kingdom of Denmark & Norway and Austria-Hungary, which was two countries in one. The sole IDEA of Finland as a country didn't exist before it was taken under Russian control, it was just a part of Sweden. So, I don't think it makes sense because rather than a lover of Sweden, Finland should be Sweden's son... or something.

@DennizTomato: The reason they're seperate characters is because Germanic and Finnic peoples are easy to seperate from one another. And although Finland wasn't a nation in the early crusades Finnic tribes lived together in the area that was absorbed into Sweden. So it's not that weird. And pfft at you calling me a "crazy little fangirl." Sweden is a homosexual in the comics that is in love with Finland. How else would you interpret this? SuFin is one of the most popular pairings for a reason...

@mieroth I think I made it obvious enough I wasn't talking directly at you at that fangirl comment, and the fact you chose to interpret it that way isn't my fault. And I won't in any way disagree it's a shounenai series, I just don't think that's an excuse for this need of pairing everyone up.

By every Hetalia"rule" Finland should barely be adult. I don't think it's logical, it's not my cup of tea AND IT WILL NEVER BE. Really, my comment was over a year old, why'd you even care to pick a fight?

Figured it'd be the same with Finland. And USA is only nineteen and he's at the "top" of his life too x)

Hetalia is about humor and history, NOT yaoi. Everyone doesn't have to end up with someone... Not everyone WANTS to end up with someone! (I mean, this is a cartoon series so technically they don't feel anything but you get my point!) So yeah, that might answer your question. I like the brotherly nordic-feelings though.
