@ Mrdillan64, it would but I would suggest that construction paper would do it because it is much more dense, giving the wand less flimsyness

Excellent tutorial! I just made my first wand today and it turned out much better than I expected! The only deviation I made from your instructions was to use lollipop sticks inside instead of the dowel. Perhaps I'll create a video response to show everyone. The whole process only took about two hours start to finish, with the wand being fully made and a base coat of paint being applied in the first hour. Thanks again!

didn't think of that when i did wands for my kids....although paper would have been much easier...i used a wooden dowel and a dremel to carve it with and then clear coated the wood...going to see if i can rough sand it to black coat it and gold leaf over it...that was a very nice effect

@iJayzon the lumos wand is much more interesting, but a lot more difficult. I suggest you start with the plain wand and they try the lumos one.

@ukelele85 Just waving them around while dancing would be fine I think. The addition of the piece of wood in the center really helps stiffen it.
