Don't forget that when the civil war started that some commanders in the Libyan Army defected along with their soldiers to the rebel side. The FN FAL is so massivly used that it can turn up anywhere. But they are not brand new, they haven't been in production for a very very long time by FN, but have been copyed by others.

They have so many special brigades that I wouldn't be suprised if some had FN FAL rifles.

I had a "brand new" Rk 62 assault rifles made in 1974. "Brand new" = well mantained.

This video is to show the big differences of the libyan actions compared to e.g. those in egypt. It was from the beginnig heavily armed, not taking place in the capital of the country (like most other demonstrations start), but near the country frontier and directly supported (even illegally by the US against congress).

This video is bullcrap. Accoding to Jane's 35th edition of Infantry Weapons Libya has been using the FN Fall at least since 2009. They got that through arms deals with France and the UK which are well documented.

FN FAL is used by many militaries in Africa, well even a licence version was produced in SA, no problem with ammo as well since there are several production plants in africa, recoillesrifles are copy produced in China and Iran, same with MANPADs - generally: there was no problem for Libian mllitary to get any of those in large quantities, secondly even if those are not from gov stocks they could be easly obtained in Sudan, Niger or Chad. Now for the old manufactured on 1978 M40 106-mm recoilless rifle shells in the split crate(I know this for a fact because I have seen the actual photo in which the manufactured dates are clearly visible). the M40 106-mm recoilless rifle were also from pre-Gadaffi era and the shells can be bought from any weapons market since this weapon is very popular with many countries. as to the embargo it was officially lifted on January 2004 and official relations resumed with the United States.

This crude attempt at propaganda need to stop with all it's false infos. before Gadaffi take over of Libya in 1969 coup, Libya was a west aligned country and was in process of adopting the 7.62x51mm FN-FAL for their armed forces. but after the coup, Gadaffi became pro-Soviet thus all the new weapons from then on were soviet bloc. so the already purchased FN-FALs with it's ammo were stored as a reserve virtually brand new in weapons depots all over Libya including Benghazi and Misrata.
