I once saw a fragment on the internet where this song was performed in a solo by a lady (an old fragment). I can't find it anywhere, but I found out this will do. What a fascinating rhythm, it is!
I remember as a kid in the early 50's watching Jiminy Crickett, my Mother always said, "that's Ukele Ike." Now I have a couple of his cd's and love him more than ever, it's said he was one of the original scat singers.
I learned how to play chord change from a 'Ukulele Ike' song book. It was my first fake book. It had tune like "Jada", Don't Blame me", I cried fro you" Darktown Strutters ball". Love his singing. It seems like Leon Redbone may have been influenced by cliff "Ukulele Ike" Edwards. Much thx for posting. I'm adding to my favs.
I think the main riff is clearly based on this. But I wouldn't say the whole song "Burn" is based on this, as stuff like the vocals aren't at all based on this song imo.
Cliff sold about 70 million records, acted in about 100 movies. At one time, "When you wish upon a star" sung by Cliff was the most played record of all time. He was GREAT. He should be better known.
PRETTY cool... 2oobwatcher's help make youtube a wonderland. Television, huh? what's that? Oh yeah ... that's the medium where you're not likely to ever see/hear something like this.
Sadly, Cliff Edwards is largely forgotten. Luckily, there are a few great CDs of his music. He was a great talent. Thanks for this Edwards video. He deserves to be more well-known. He was less vaudeville than the great George Formby and was a far superior vocalist. Both men were great ukulele players.
***laughing*** and I was sixth grade spelling champ! I totally missed that..thank you for calling it to my attention ☺ I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
From a long-time admirer of Edwards: this is a pure delight. Thanks to the creators for the seeming labor of love behind these assembled images! Cliff rocks.
I don't think I have heard Mr Edwards music before but I like it. I was wonderin' if you have every heard of George Formby - "I'm The Ukelele Man" Very cool vid BTW :) Peace & Health
Thanks VERY much for posting this musical great! Your channel is fantastic!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
it's 4:4 the entire way through - what's fascinating???
nostalgic - maybe
fascinating - NOT AT ALL
wwrpd77 4 years ago
4:4 is the pulse not the rhythm. there's a big difference

Then please quantify the rhythm for me, LOL!
wwrpd77 3 years ago
it's the rhythm of the melody einstein. it's syncopated and outside.

Love this...thanks, Cliff was the greatest early jazz star. In the same league as the Rhythm Boys and Louis Armstrong.

But, I just gotta ask you to correct the spelling of rhythm. As a long-time admirer of the dictionary...
