Most people don't pay attention to who's running and where they stand on issues, their voting records, etc. until they are about to vote on them. So McCain, who ran for president before and has been in the news, gets high marks just because he's known. So, to place so much emphasis on polls is ignorant.

I like to listen to right wing radio, and during the ads, I switch to NPR. It makes me completely crazy, but I feel I understand both extremes pretty well. I cannot understand the distaste for McCain. Veteran, War "Hero", Senator, blah blah. Too bad he's been reasonable a few too many times for the far right.
