  • coincidence*

  • I always noticed, when people show the 7th's, they are always around the 7th fret.

Im obviously a noob. Is the 7th fret a coincident? Can a 7th be anywhere guys?

  • i think i should stick with drumming... lol.. XD

  • Hey man, i love you shirt!

  • Thanks for the ARM position lesson....that helps a lot...most guys on here don't show that....that C7 chord is a monster to me.

  • ouch ...my hand hurts lol

  • @ANOTHERHOLEINYOHEAD every person is different. for a beginner you should just practice till you get it. there is no other way and if your passionate enough about it then you will eventually get it

  • Good lesson, nice T-shirt dude!

  • You'll get better I threw guitar at wall.

  • thats a wrong finger to show mate!!! :P

  • thank you very much..............

  • man its hard to play without cocking my wrist like that... and i definetly didnt notice my wrist was getting sore until you mentioned it lol

  • you show off your tummy? lol jk...

  • good for you

  • MOST IMPORTANT ---> 5:52

  • Thank you Justin. great teaching. God bless you.

  • Justin's lessons are all great, but I wish he would understand that there is no accent on the "e" in "barre." An accent would make the word pronounced "barray." "Barre," pronounced "bar," means "bar" in French, and is the word for the bar used for ballet dancers for their exercises. It's also what the finger does in chords, bar the strings.

  • @sictransitputey shut up

  • @sictransitputey Bore Off mate, Christ.....

  • I am so glad that i went beyond my normal Internet instructors and found these two videos. I have played for a year and half, but many people that see my play think I have played much longer. But what they did not know since they dont play guitar, is I avoid anything with a barre chord. Well, as I watched you, i played my first barre chord. Thanks, You gave so many more usefull tips than the other guys. Now, I am checking out your other lessons hoping you have some pink floyd.

  • I did it! Finally. Thanks Justin. Mind you my fingers are way more slanted across the frets than yours but the F sounded clear and so did the A and G, but fingers getting more bunched up further down the neck. Like everyone else I had almost given up.

  • Wow! Thank you Justin. Your explanation of achieving this difficult barre chord is so clear and helpful. I had almost given up, thinking that it would be anatomically impossible for me. I so want to do it so that I can finish learning my first peice, 'Romanza'. What would we do without kind people like you to help. Will be back to let you know how I do with it. Many thanks. Lyn.x Ps Really glad you have stopped smoking.

  • You are a great teacher. Thanks for the lesson!

  • nice video!!...but there sems to be a problem..while doing these chords my second string mutes down...what to do?

  • excellent explanation the close up on the arm positioning and how the hand should grip the chord supported by the forearm instead of cocking the wrist was a key and much appreciated point. nice shirt too :) Thanks for these lessons and the attention to detail.

  • I think bar chord basically means that you grab the whole fret with your index finger on the left hand!

  • YAYYYY i can do the F chord xD and the G

  • You're a great teacher man - thanks for the lesson and keep up awesome work!

  • ...nice lesson ...thanks... I did not like the shirt ...

  • thank you so much for all of your help, this helped out a lot

  • Press F5 To skip these bloody ads.

  • you have got to be one of the best guitar teachers!

  • thanks

  • I just had a barre chord breakthrough, thank you so much. i was beginning to think these old fingers weren't going to be able to do it.

  • What other barre shape chords are there other than E? Im guessing all the basic major chords?

  • Excellent, and adorkable.

  • I find your explanation on elbow position very useful. Thanks a lot.

  • Why there's a Tasmanian daemon at the end of your videos? 0_o

  • it's imposible to do this without flexing my wrist :S

  • haha i want that T-shirt !! <3

  • My guitar teacher has been trying to explain barre chords to me for weeks. Thanks Justin for explaining it in clear English. I finally understand it. They way you explained that the finger is on the F and that's why it's an F barre chord was like a light bulb going off over my head! I got it!

  • @CDP110

How can you loosen up your strings? - I have a guitar with steel-strings which obviously is pretty hard to play on... can you loosen up your strings on that kinda guitar or do you have a Spanish-nylon-string guitar which is easier to play on?

  • @TheDKdanish I have a Fender Squier strat. By "loosen my strings," I mean I tuned down to D standard. When you tune down, the strings lose tension and you can play with less pressure you normally apply. If you change your strings, I guess to lighter gauge strings, you should get the same effect. I use .010 DR tite fit strings by the way.

  • I love your lessons, man! I've been trying barre chords but haven't gotten clear notes. I watch this and they ring out perfectly. Maybe because I'm in D standard and my strings are loose. Now I understand the principles of barre chords more clearly. Thanks, Justin! Nice shirt!

  • Very helpful. Thanks so much. Addresses many of my questions.

  • really clear explanation thanks m8!

  • just testing my bar on my first finger, i put it down just as you say it, try to press. every string will sound OK, except for one string that doesn't actually gives a sound, but its like semi-muted. or sometimes muted if i'm tired, i have to press really really really hard just to get a semi-muted sound out of that particular string, It's the G string, for first i thought it was my guitar, but then i bring another brand new guitar and its the same, why the G String is muted? Can u help me

  • Very nicely explained Justin. Thanks a lot.

  • can i turn my thumb parallel running with the neck to get a stronger bar? thanks for the great lessons

  • Brilliant - cheers Justin!!!!

  • Things are making sense O_o! Im producing bar chords O_o!

wtf is going on. am i halucinating again O_o?

  • LMAO 6:19 - "I'm not a Doctor but i'll have a look at it for you" - Classic line Justin. On another note sweet tutorials on bar chords; it makes it so much easier to understand and put into practice.

  • Love that t-shirt, need to get one myself and wear it around my fundamentalist Christian relatives lol.

  • Thank you so much for you Barré lessons. I had got a private guitar teacher about 4 years but he wasn't able to teach me Barrés.. Sure, he tried once, but I said I can't, its to difficult and he didn't try again....

Now I saw our videos and it seems that its not that difficult I thaught =)

    Thanks a lot !

  • om Gosh that T shirt is great!!!

The lesson was the best. finally someone explains in my language. Thanks Justin

  • congrats for stop smoking and thank you for the good lesson ;)

  • Teaching myself, I run into a lot of bad habits. (It happened learning German, too). Going way back to the basics of the E Chord helped me immensely in my problems of barre(ing) out chords... thanks a lot! Very good, slow, methodical teaching method. T-Shirt rocked!

  • awesome lesson and an awesome shirt LOL

  • really good tutorial. well done. and good luck with the fags.

  • lol. but, what if u have to bend ur wrist because.. my hands are small.. and that means my fingers are too.. so, unfortunately... i have to bend my wrist.. i can't do it the other way (straight), if i do i can't cover the top E string! haha! :P

  • nice work mate thanx

  • that's answered all my questions.

one minute i can do then the next i can't.

damn my wrist.that would explain why it aches when i try a barre chord.you've made me a happy squirrel.

p.s love the t shirt.that made me laugh XD

  • i'm learning from you. thanks

  • Thanks!!

  • Great lessons !!! thank u !

  • Very Helpful,

When I'm trying the c barre chord it sounds awful, is it just practice,? the f,g,a chords came pretty easy.

    Many thanks

    Dave

  • Great Lesson Justin. It really helped me improve my barre chords.

  • Justin, thanks especially for pointing out the wrist and arm position, I have really been straining my wrist trying some of these barre chords. I so appreciate your lessons

  • Thats great man Smoking is very bad for your body .. it causes lots of nasty conditions like Emphysema.. Your lungs cant hold air for more then 25 seconds thats scary. but good for you man dont go back

  • @sabiftw How many other people held their breath to disprove this? i sure did :P

  • @sabiftw shut the fuck up

  • great lesson, i have been avoiding all songs with barre chords because i was struggling so with them. and of course missing out on some great songs. thx so much , your lesson was very helpful and i am actually able to do some barre chords now!

  • youve made me a better guitar player. check out my new skills on my bands channel

  • Awesome tips about the wrist and the arm. Really helped, especially for the 1st string. I must admit, I am guilty about that wrist thing.

  • Thank you for the tip about the wrist! You just saved me from learning it wrong and stressing my body. Five stars just for that. And, very nice t-shirt. ;)

  • haha, you ARE showing off your T-shirt.

the ending animal makes me wonder... is it your pet?

  • Maybe it was unnecessary, but you didn't make a video on why/when to use Barre Chords. I'm guessing they're just ways to make the open chords higher on the neck? Or just more chords to play, if there are any other special reasons someone please tell me. thanks...

  • OMFG!! i want that shirt!!

    Great chat up line, Justin!

  • What if your thumb starts to hurt?

  • if you're a new player (say 3 months or less) its just your muscles adjusting. take a 5 minute break and carry on, soon you'll be able to play for as long as you want. if your not a new player, cut it off.

  • Ha Ha! Justin. No, we did not anything wierd. If you play a an OPEN g chord the ROOT NOTE IS ON THE....

  • Very good. Thank you very much for sharing this instruction. I learnt more from this than I did from a class I paid for. You are a good teacher.

  • great instruction. thanks for all the lessons!

  • how many barré chord shapes does there exist? and what are their names? E is one of them i have learned know.

  • CAGED. 5 basic barer chords.

  • and all 5 barré chords got 4 different combinations?

  • you explained barre chords better than just about anyone else, thank you

  • Thanks a million dude... I'm so glad to know all this, been struggling badly with the barre chords... it already sounds way much better. Thanks!!

  • Thanks for all the lessons, Justin. You are the best, and so nice for sharing your knowledge with all the newbies of cyberworlld. I hope you're doing okay in the not smoking department!

  • cool! very clear lesson,,,i usually play that chords too but i dont know what it means...heheh=^^=

  • Good luck quitting smoking, it took me a long time, you can do it ^.^

  • Great lesson! This helped alot ...thanks

  • i still have probs with the barre chord... my finger are really short and cant grab the barre chords well... any suggetions

  • I have short fingers too. It helps if you think about placing the E shape down first, and then adding the barre down as an afterthought. Pretty soon it all comes together. Just keep practicing, you'll get it.

  • Really thanks for that lesson! Also, lmao at chicken wings!

  • tnx alot ........

  • This is exactly what i was looking for, detailed break down of barre chords. Nice lesson, your a champion.

I have the same problem as joshit, with the pinky muting the g string below it.

  • Great lesson but I think you skipped dom 7th....

  • Nope... he did the dom 7th, but he just called it the A7 which is the same as Adom7.

  • man i hate the minor barre chord, for some reason my finger just mutes the g string when i play barre chords so its pretty impossible for me to make the minor barres sound right

  • Barre chords are bloody hard work, but dare I say I think I have improved since watching this video?! Thanks v. much

  • you have to admit bush fucked up

  • fuck bush

  • W00t. Cheers bro.

  • LMAO. That last shot of the t-shirt was awesome.

  • HAHAHA AWESOME SHIRT!

  • this is very helpful.

  • Thank you Justin! I too have a "good bush-bad bush"- shirt !!

  • Thanks Justin, you explained the root name so well, it finally sunk in for me.

  • i suck at bar chords :/

  • Thanks for another great lesson

  • really helpful lesson--I'm wondering if the guitar is one of the more difficult instruments to learn to play?

  • Thanks for taking the time and patience to teach us basic skint beginners the straight forward things we need to know. As unable to afford Guitar lessons you are just so necessary. Thank you and well done.
