Avatar- cheesy,long, plot has been done before in other movies(smurfs,pochahontas, dances with the wolves), had an idea of what the conclusion would come too.83%ON rotten tomatoes, oh and overated.

Hurtlocker-97% on rotten tomatoes, bigelow put her heart and soul into the characters, it makes you respect the marines out there that fight for us! It had a good solid plot, no cheesness, you really didnt know what the end would result in, its never been done before!

i think the case for the bigelow cameron thing is simple......as much as i liked avatar more then hurt locker i think that cameron sitting by a bunch of computers and digital projects in a warehouse is not as noteworthy as bigelow siting in the sand with an actual camera. once again not beating on avatar but i think its the only arguable statement

Don't compare avatar to star wars. Yeah it was also the huge thing for special effects of it's time but it had really memorable characters an original plot line that is copied parodied or has something similar to many times and good acting.

People like to hate avatar because it's cool to hate things that everyone likes. I was astounded by the artwork and technology in the movie and i liked the storyline. The hurt locker barely had a plot...literally a series of events. Avatar isn't the top grossing movie of all time by accident.

I'm one the biggest James Cameron fans there is, and I didn't like Avatar. I was really dissapointed by it's story, the scene where he gets the bigger bat is soo teenage boy fantasy it made me nausious. I didn't like Hurtlocker either, mostly because I hated the main character. Maybe that's a sign of a good movie atleast it effected me emotionally.

Best movie is Inglorious basterds, for 80% of the movie it's masterpiece, the ending could have been better. Still the best outa a weak year.

I agree it's over-hyped, but I'm kind of thankful. If a movie is going to be over-hyped, I'm glad it's something like Avatar, as opposed to Twilight or whatever. Because as much as Avatar lacked, it's a good starting ground for better movies to be made. It inspires more people to get into sci-fi and fantasy. Which I'm a big fan of. It's a cool start to a sci-fi fanbase. So, yes it's over-rated, but I think it's leading to better film making, and the criticism will inspire better story-telling.
