I feel like Korean get amazed at like the simplest things (or pretend to be amazed). A lot of the magic tricks are like so basic/simple, but i guess it is for the show, u HAVE to ACT amazed.
What he does is he quickly closes his mouth on the flame so it goes off (no oxygen) and pretends to chew. Me and my friends were doing it in camp with matches
