i saw this video years ago in a special presentation by its maker Barry Purves...and iv wanted to see it again since then. All his animations are excellent but this is his best i think. Seeing him and his work inspired me to start a modelmaking/animation career. I hope i come across the rest of his work on here :)

Achilles and Patroclus are never shown as lovers in the Iliad, but considering that this is the common hellenic interpretation of their relationship, and that Achilles shows greater love for him than for everyone, I've always considered them as such. There are hints of their relationship, but they probably got added later, when homosexuality was common in Greece as a pedagogic device. Tell me if you want to know more about it ^__^

I suppose that, since it's not a story written by a single person, these hints have been added to suit the common interpretation of love between men. Also, homosexuality between men of the same age wasn't common, and often was even frowned upon. It's strange to think of Achilles as the younger one, although he was. Very nice animation.
I found the role reversal interesting. Achillies is often portrayed as a selfish Glory-seeker, wile Hector usually comes off as one of the few decent people in the whole story; not a villan. Still, a valid interpetation.

Great stuff! Kudos to the modelers, lighters, cinematographers, writers, etc. I've never seen such naturalistic claymation, with such emotional expression, and the way light was used really added to it.
