i'm more curious as to the bottom end of the mark viii motor is handling the 100 shot...I've got a 98 lsc too. Did he use a handheld tuner like the xcal for a tune, or did he take it in somewhere?
@v8only jeremy why the hell do you never ask me these questions and you should know already these bottoms ends are practically bullet proof if taken care of...idk if you remember my buddy in his tbird or not...but he is running spray 150 shot with the sct x-cal2...hes ran maybe 15 bottles with the 150...no signs of problems..and hes working on 200k plus miles..with D/Rs he got down to a 13.4 bottle hitting like crap....in case your wondering its Jason..lol...
@CockYaLegS Iv'e walked GT's with more mods than that. Without any mods on my part. You have to know a good roll speed for the mark for proper downshifting points. I run 13's with nitrous but alot of people that beat me at the track CANNOT hang with me on the highway. Example a 70 mph roll = mark 8 drops to 2nd gear and with the nos... you will leave just about any car standing still.
my 94 mark has 194400 miles on it needs a rebuild want get it stroke out to a 5.0 liter but will only gain a 100 horse any suggestion for power upgrade?
my markviii has 194400 miles on it needs a rebuild want get it stroke out to a 5.0 liter but will only gain a 100 horse any suggestion for power upgrade?
@iamstudman Hmmm lets see, the mark put down 226 bone stock, then 315 (IIRC, its in his vid) with a 100 WET shot and tuning. No other mods at that time. It was just for fun. He got plenty of other supporting mods later on down the road, but got sold. my stang (which is about 400 lbs lighter) put down 298 at the time. Whats so hard to believe about that? No BS here fellas ;)
I wonder how the automatic transmission is holding out in the mark... I've never been a fan of automatic transmissions, due to the high cost of making them strong enough to handle good power. Is the transmission in the mark viii strong enough to take a good beating?
@Hellz420 the 4r70w is a pretty beastly trans. they are highly capable when properly built and many guys use them now a days, even in the 05 and ups. In stock form with the J-Mod, higher stall and and aux cooler, I have seen these handle plenty of power with no prob. the trans in this mark is still going strong with many passes on it fyi.
I would like to add that while I think that the 4r70w is a weak link, I have abused the crap out of mine (roughly 450 flywheel horse going through it) for going on 4 years now and it is still putting power to the ground so I guess it deserves some credit.
@sundayfunday563 explain falling out of gear? meaning is it not holding a certain gear?is it sliping raising rpm and not picking up speed? what?? if these are any of your cases your trans is done for dont touch it leave it alone unless you want to have it rebuilt....the j-mod simply allows for more fluid to be transfered from the valve body to the parts in the trans to make the shift..by doing this faster shifts and extending the life of the trans by cutting down heat from the excess slipping..
@1sik3297 like you will be driving down the road and she will go into neutral..when that happens i put it in second and wait for a sec or 2 and it will engage again and then i put it back in drive. we have fixed all the springs insie the tranny that break. we think it is an electrical problem but were not sure.
@Hellz420 No its not. Unless you have a 97/98 - Then you wont have to worry about the tranny. Otherwise you WILL be changing it, even with no mods, iv'e changed 3.
Furthermore, the automatic shifts faster than any human being can possibly shift, but the gearing and control is the reason most like manual trans. But ALL serious drag racers run automatics.
A naturally aspirated Mark VIII with 4.10s, trac-lok, SCT tune and high stall converter should be able to break the 6 second mark to 60. Add some headers and a j-mod to the valve body of the transmission and you should be approaching the mid 5s range to 60 very quickly. This is all a huge thanks to the potential of what is under the hood. ;)
yup i'll agree with that, maybe not break the 6sec to 60 but definetly be right at it if not. i have 3.73's, track-lok and the SCT tune and will run a 0-60 in 6.5 sec range. Definetly need a better converter for a better launch. For me personally, next is the headers, high-flow cats, x-pipe resonator and full dual exhaust out the back.
1995 Mark VIII- 3.73 with posi, UD pulleys, 80mm maf, SCT, factory exhuast minus rear mufflers. 14.5's. :)
You are almost a mirror image of what I am doing to mine except i am putting in 4.10s. Either way, I think the headers will really open that motor up for ya and definitely knock off a few more tenths. You'll be running with R/Ts in no time. ;) Put a 3800 stall converter in there and I am willing to bet that you could pull on a stock R/T any day of the week and even keep up with an SRT-8 until the SOB hits about 50 mph. Good luck! :)
My Mark VIII has a 125 shot, 3.73 rear end with track-lock, a custom SCT tune, a completely open exhaust, Water/Meth injection, underdrive pulleys, etc etc and it will hit 60 at just over the 5 second mark, assuming the tires stick to the ground. I could get a faster 0-60 but I run a progressive nitrous, it isn't even fully kicked in until the 2 second mark. A stock SRT-8 is *no* problem for me but those turkeys can get quick with some mods.
Wow that's interesting. What is your 1/4 mile time? I know that I have heard of Mark VIIIs running with bolt-ons and no nirtrous while still attaining a low to mid 13 1/4 mile which I would assume is around the 5 second range to 60.
I know of two Mark VIIIs that are in the low 13 range that are running without any sort of forced induction or power adders, and if I am not mistaken one of them has even pegged a 12.9. I would not characterize either of them as just having "bolt ons" however. By the time you are swapping out cams on that motor you are deep into it. I have posted a 13.9 on motor on a marginal weather day and can routinely post 12.3s on spray with an occasional dip into the 12.1s.
By the way, you do know that to put headers on a Mark VIII it requires that you re-engineer the steering, right? It's not a "throw it in there in an hour" type thing.
Well, that is pretty good. I do remember watching your video. Very nice. As far as the headers, honestly NO i didn't know that. Are you referring to Kooks headers that were designed for these cars, because I am reading the installation instructions provided with these headers and there is nothing mentioned about that. If you are referring to cobra manifolds or headers, then yes you are right. That's how I understand it.
If you are talking about the 3/4 length Kooks headers I am of the opinion that there are better ways to spend 800 bucks as they only work marginally better than shorties, and those don't flow any better than the stock manifolds on the Mark VIII. I am a proponent of exhaust (especially since 1/3rd of your engine's power is wasted just pumping gasses around) but I am unconvinced that a 3/4 pipe can actually harvest the exhaust pulses in a measurable way. That's just my opinion!
I don't have a dyno plot to back up that assertion (I do on the shorties). If someone has some substantive proof that there is 800 dollars worth of benefit from running those headers, I would very much appreciate seeing it!
I would recommend getting hold of Driller over at lincolnsofdisctintion. I just checked and he is running the 3/4 header so he would know if there are any issues. Also, his car is the one that hit 12.9 so he is probably a good authority on such things.
Yes, I know him well enough. His name is John. Out of his mouth he has claimed a 15-20 hp gain over the stock manifolds with the kooks 3/4s. I know what you could mean with the shorties, but i think it is wrong to say that the kooks are NO better than the stock log manifolds. 3/10 in the 1/4 mile is worth it for $800 to me especially when it makes a bigger difference the more add-ons you have. I can post a link to the forum where I discussed these headers. His Username is JP. No harsh feelings.
He is using them, and I am not so I think his word counts! :) Like I said, you can think of an engine as a big air pump and anything that makes that breathe easier is just more power to the ground so I think it's all good. He is the first person I have seen that I would trust the word of, he is even more meticulous than I am. I notice he is using the Flaming River Billet steering joint, that makes me think that he did have to move the steering. If you find out, please let me know!
@infarc No problem, chat all u all want. BTW, I have actually met driller and a bunch of othe mn12 hot rodders when I went to a MAmn12 meat up in maryland years ago. I used to be a tbird junkie before the stang.
hmm. Because I have a 02' Mustang GT with heads and cams. However i just bought a 94' lincoln mark viii and I am going to build the motor and put a blower on it to surprise people. Hopefully around 600rwhp.
Don't worry, he added a 1 pc aluminum DS, 4.10's, pulleys, better fuel pump, upped the shot to 125 and ect. After that we were nose and nose. Unfortunately he had to sell the Mark in order to purchase his home. Def some good times though. IIRC he ran a few tenths better than than me at the track as well.
I'm still wondering why a Mark VIII on spray cannot keep up with a 07 GT Stang with hardly any mods. Is the Mark VIII just sprayed and that's it??
