I am against the death penalty but not because I think it's inhuman or it goes against some religions (I am an atheist so I don't care), I am against it because it's too easy. If some dude is guilty of killing someone I want him to rot in jail, not take the easy way out with a needle.

The comments on this site are so asnine it amazes me that intelligent people make such foolish comments. Like the person who has not lost a family memeber to a brutal murder should know anything about whether its right or wrong. How smug to sit back and say an enlightened society would not do a killing. So if your child is slain, and the "right" thing to do is just say no more killing! Then why imprison them too? Let em go! If they murder again oh well, let em go again. Love the doormats here.

Most people seem to be able to accept wild animals are not to blame for their nature but are typically less understanding of psychopaths. People are typically discouraged from thinking past blaming others who have mental problems but there has to be a reason for their behavior.

@romansangel Maybe you should do a little study into the death penalty, it affects the executioner, the executioners family and anyone who has to witness any execution. We are not meant to kill, we are meant to survive, that's how we are built. Murderers are not let go if they are dangerous to society, it depends on each individual case as to why a person has killed, the ones that kill through a ' domestic killing ' with therapy they can be rehabilitated. But say NO to the Death Penalty!

I am utterly amazed and appalled by the comments people make as regarding vengence rather than understanding everything encompassing executions, vengence is fleeting, whereas taking a life is permanent. People have been wrongly convicted of crimes and gone to be executed, later on they are proved innocent with new evidence & it's too late, you can't bring back the executed. It affects everyone involved, i can't believe people still agree with executions. Get an education please!!!

According to the American Bar Association, a whopping 1% of those executed are innocent. When you talk about abolishing the death penalty, it would behoove yourself to wonder: what does this mean for the 99% who are guilty?

The proportionality of punishment is a fundamental principle of justice, thus by rejecting death penalty, one in fact rejects justice, for it is obvious that some crimes are so henious that for them even death is still not severe enough.

Just thinking about killing people in cold blood leaves me feeling chilled. I find the death penalty so abhorrent I can not warm to anyone who says they are for it. Killing people to make society less violent is completely irrational.

@AndreVonKugland Should the person who is going to kill this person in cold blood be aloud to walk the streets? I would not want my children to come in contact with such a person. There is nothing civilized about killing people as a form of punishment and there is no science to back up the claim it reduces crime, in fact quite the opposite. The most violent states and countries still have the death penalty while the most progressive abolished it long ago.

@AndreVonKugland You have to also take into account Brazil’s level of poverty but it’s worth pointing out the USA and Japan have engaged in far more killings through wars than Brazil.

If you look at the number of people killed per capita in the USA, the southern states suffer much greater homicide rates than the northern states.

Much the same comparison can be made with European countries for those that have abolished the death penalty and those that have not.

on one side the death penalty is called a honorable thing, but the executioners were never honorable people. In medieval times they could not go were they wanted, they were impure people, others avoided them. A hood was not worn by all executioners and if, it was seldom to hide their identidy. Today most executions happen in the night, identities are well hidden, "humane" methods were developed, it`s nothing more than a helpless try to hide it`s barbaric nature. It`s so weird.

@thymefromti Hmmm...I feel the same way, though lets at least tell tell the truth and the whole truth! The truth is this, we have not had one of our family members brutally raped and murdered. If say it was your own little child as the victim just watch how fast and sane the death penalty will start looking then! In fact, if someone harmed my daughter, I would hate to see them die quickly and painlessly w/ lethal Injection. I would torture them to the point of being unthinkable, and daily!

@romansangel It is often used as an argument for the death penalty to imagine how you would feel if some horrible crime was committed against you. Would you be so reasonable and understanding then is the question asked but I fail to see how being traumatised makes one wise in making decisions.

on a global scale, our civilisation is progressing. over time, less and less people agree with death penalty, and opposition grows, also the amount of people executed is falling constantly. this is true for the decade scale, for the century scale, and for the millenia scale.

muslims cannot progress, they have to believe in shariah law in order to be muslim, and that law requires death penalty for non-violent offenses, like leaving islam.

also, the argument that death penalty is the ebst deterrent against crime is simply wrong. if your country fails to solve cases of homicide and manages to arrest the offender in less than half of the cases, then it really doesnt matter if you threaten death penalty or 15 years in prison, they just expect to be in the smarter 50% of killers. thats the situation in the US. catch 90% of these people, and the result will be much better, with or without death penalty.

You suggest to execute the corrupt law workers? Introducing death penalty into a country with corrupt law system can only end bad. Who exactly do you think will get the death penalty? A corrupt justice system will use death penalty for corrupt ends, as simple as that.

@halflifeproductionz You are not at all paying attention to what I'm saying. A corrupt system will not use death penalty for non-corrupt purposes. Thus it is not a solution to crime in a state with a corrupt law system, as you suggested. Not that I believe it is the answer in any place. If crime could be stopped with death penalty then how come countries that do have the death penalty don't have a 0 crime rate?

Also, are we actually talking about death penalty making a good on society, or just revenge hidden by a "justice" flag. I'm all for it, allow death penalty. I won't cry for violent people dieing, they probably were going to die in violence anyway. I will say this however, I don't believe death penalty will, if anything, help society.

The real criminals, the people that operate those cartels, say the REAL criminals, are never, ever going to die by death penalty, because they are the same people that are maintaining the government.
