Just called ACT and they said to adjust the clutch pedal height so that it is slightly pushed in, eliminating the sound. Does this not mean that the release/ throw out bearing is always, in my case with my WRX, pushing against the pressure plate " vortex" forks? It did eliminate the sound, but Ive already had to adjust it several times today, could mean that its loosening off, or just more wear is occuring... Subaru dealer guy says hey, do what ACT says, and if problems occur later, ive nowCMA
I really wish I would have saw your video two days ago.... fuck. My new ACT HDSS is doing this in my 2010 WRX. I now have no warranty coverage from Subaru... My TO bearing seems to be the culprit, noise when in neutral, goes away when clutch is depressed
Honestly after 15k miles it sounds odd to have the ring start failing. I would take pictures and document as you go in case you uncover something else.
ACT will walk you through bending the ring with nothing technical to offer. Just bend the ring and test it a few times by hand before putting it all back together.
I have the act street clutch in my wrx and it has worked perfectly for 15,000 miles until now it is doing exactly what is happening in this video. This sucks I have to pull the entire engine out again to fix this and I don't know if just bending the ring will make it hold. Should I contact act about this?
ok ive got a really stupid problem with my clutch.. i own a 2003 subaru impreza 2.5rs five speed manual.. i just had the clitch replaced with a new OE exedy clutch pressure plate flywheel pilot bearing throwout bearind and slave cylinder... problem... every time right after the car warms up completely, when i enguage the clutch (and i have to be moving, never will do it at idol or if car is off) something makes like a very noticable squeak or whooosshhh sound.. and it will only do it if theres
@jun19020987 You should be able to use a stock clutch bearing, but I would check with Exedy. I wouldn't use the same bearing you have in there, as it is a bearing that takes a lot of wear. The idea is if you are in there replacing the clutch, take the time to put a new throw-out bearing in as well.
The update from ACT was to take the ring out and squeeze it in some pliers. So far it seems like it will do the trick. If you are using this for reference, be careful when doing this, as the ring has notches in it and will quickly bend in the thinner areas of the ring. Go slow, bend evenly.
I made the video for ACT, as I was on the phone with them earlier.
It is pretty clear to me that the retention ring on the new clutch is spread out to wide, preventing the thrust bearing from re-seating into the ring. I just have been without this car too long, and I need to get moving on getting back together.
That looks frustrating. I presume ACT doesn't include / sell a non-standard thrust bearing that you're expected to use instead? I'd send them this very video, I'm sure they'll stand behind it and either provide the proper advice, or part(s).
u probably didnt broke the cluth for the first 1200 miles.

I was always under the impression that you had to tighten the pressure plate to the flywheel first for these things to stay in??
