  • can mb canal be missed?

  • The question has been asked if mb canals can be missed and of course the answer is yes, but the real question is how to avoid missing them. Mb canals are present in both maxillary and mandibular molars. The best way to avoid missing them is to have proper access into the pulp chamber extending the dimensions of the access so no overlying roof is present. Of course, pulp chambers may be occupied by varying degrees of calcifications often presenting as pulp stones.

  • These ectopic calcifications must be recognized and removed to gain access to the true floor of the pulp chamber off of which the canals will branch. The mb canal is generally found underneath the mb cusp with the db canal found at least a few mm distal and lingually away from the mb canal. The palatal canal is obviously found palatally, but generally more mesially oriented than distally.

  • If you find a buccal canal and are not sure whether it is a mb or a db the best thing you can do is take an x-ray. This will tell you which canal you are in and better orient you as to where to find the one that is so far missing. The real challenge in maxillary molars is to make sure you do not miss the mb2 if it is present.

  • @davelphoto thx doc

  • davalphoto i have a question, im only 13 and i was wondering if root canal surgery hurts? i have a tooth abscess on my lower left jaw bone and it hurts.

  • @TonyTrue2 Root Canal therapy is excruciatingly painful. However, Root canal pain can be prevented by getting the therapy done as soon as possible. I waited a long time for mine, and it was the most horrible pain in the entirety of existance. More so than child birth. Get it done QUICKLY.

  • @EyeMaske: In my experience, the therapy itself does not have to be painful. A tooth abscess itself hurts like hell though. I once had a root canal therapy done without any anesthesia. It was the most excruciating pain I have ever felt. I had one done 2 years after that, with anesthesia, and it was an easy sit.
