I remember my friend and I were listening to this song in his car parked in a predominatly black neighboorhood getting stoned and drunk before a Frank Zappa concert..Two young black girls(about 14 or 15) were walking down the street. They overheard this song and said,We likes that!Rock on little sisters!
this sogns really weird cause thnk certain parts of it sound really bad compared to the live version and some parts are cool.. like when he yells still i hear.. all i hear.. sounds really weird ... but this songs great i love it expecialyl the vocals
Probably THE most exciting song of all time. Perfection. Hush and Speed King are actually contenders too, which means that Deep Purple are WAY above average. :)
Love this song. Actually i love the band - woo hoo Deep Purple FOREVER ! Guess what ! I saw David Coverdale live as in Whitesnake,b but they are also GREAT !!!!! :
I think Jon Lord deserves some credit as well, don't you think? The organs are one of the main things that makes them stand out, and Lord plays them masterfully, no?
this would be good song for the burnout games, i liked coverdale better than gillian. i got a whitesnake live concert dvd that has this and stormbringer on it.
What are you calling me an idiot for? Because I have a different opinion? This is rock music, asshole. It eithier speaks to you or it doesn't. Its a matter of personal taste, NOT fact. So, you know what...go fuck yourself!
Thanks! I REALLY want to put a video of me playing it on youtube, but my camera is a piece of crap, and the quality (bothe audio and visual) sucks majorly... The second I get a good one though, Burn is the first song going up.
This is definitely one of the strongest classics DP ever wrote. Underrated too in my opinion. It's too bad it's so old (1971?).
Newer bands have not seemed to have produced hits of this caliber of creativity and energy in this genre, hard rock. Popular rock music has become way simpler now and emphasizes vocal harmony based--not guitar rock.
Love this album as much as Machine Head and In Rock...The dual vocals is awesome imo it's like Ian Gillan split in two. One for the raspy voice and the other high vocals...The best part of tis line up was Hughes..he was much better Glover on bass.
Why? I like Roger but he wasn't as dynamic as Hughes. Another thing I wish is after Ritchies departure they should of got Michael Schenker or Uli Jon Roth...
I'm talking way before JS was a fill in for DP on tour. Im talking Ritchies 1st departure from DP and they called Bolin to fill the spot. With Bolin in the band they should of went by another name because Bolin was a diffent style. Now Michael Schenker and Uli Jon were in the mold and style of neo classical metal like Ritchie.
Coverdale changed his singing style after Deep Purple, and in Whitesnake was worse. But in DP I think he was better than Gillan. And I was referring to the range of Glen Hughes' voice, not Coverdale.
well, i think is just a matter of opinion this Hughes and Coverdale vs. Gillan thing..i personally like Gillan cause he can be very multifacetic and fit in good with other bands. im talking about his voice here(i think he did good with Black Sabbath)..and he influenced Bruce Dickinson, sebatian bach and some other dude. but yeah thats like three of myy reasons. but i like hughes pretty much.not so much coverdale though
finally found something not live....

My only complaint to this song: your quest for the perfection in fast-paced hard rock is finished the moment you listen to this.

I think Highway Star fits that bill more so than Burn does. At any rate, put them both on a continuous loop then.

Not as dynamic..and he didn't screech like he had a hot stick up his ass either.
Purple had the ideal replacement for Ritchie...Joe Satriani...but they let him go.
