@tapplastics the project is a housing like a external housing for a portable DVD Player. i know it can damage circuitry but i know what i am doing about electrical stuff... so if i want to make a housing how would i go about doing it
hello i have a question on one of your video you showed a demonstration of how to glue acrylic and you show a clip of how it fuse or bond together i would like to know how long it take for two pieces to merge together as on for example like an aquarium it look like one whole tank a steed of 5 sheets can you please explain i want to do a small project what i would like to do is a small aquarium but i would want it to look like on whole piece.
@adrian17663 The acrylic cement starts to bond almost instantly and continues to get stronger over the next several days. If your parts are going to be under stress, do not put them into service for at least 3 days for maximum bond strength.
I've built full furniture out of acrylic, including a trashcan, desk, table, chairs, and the bottom portions of a sofa, love seat, and cushioned chair. Ended up selling everything, but everyone loved it and asked me questions about the furniture I made every time someone came over.
I built a habitat with intake and exhuast for my Ferret with plastic from taps-plastic, considering that animal just smells horribly. When I finished it was so professionally done, and I was so proud of myself I would Brag to quests. Basically it held the 2 level cage, and I built the box around it so the ferret could play outside the cage, but inside the box. The smell was contained, and an exhuast fan recycled the inside air out the window, and another 2 fans brought fresh air in the box.
I am doing a money box project, do you think that this type of glue joint will be strong enough to hold draws. My teacher has said something similar but said to do finger joints with the glue.
The strength of the glue joint is related to the thickness of the material because thicker material has more surface area on the glued edge. Any glue joint done properly on material 1/8" or thicker will be as strong as the plastic itself. I suggest you practice glue joints on some scrap to see how strong they are. Also, the edge being glued needs to be smooth and flat. A poorly cut edge will not bond well. A properly glued box, when thrown on the ground, will not break on the glue joints.
Yes, acrylic boxes do hold water for example most fish tanks are made from acrylic. The quality of the glue joints will determine if a box can hold water. To help ensure that a joint is sealed apply Weldon #16 to the inside of the glued joints.
You can glue acrylic hinges on, just like the rest of the box. Or you can attach metal hinges by drilling holes in the plastic -- ahead of time and with a drill bit made for it.

If I were to make a housing for a certain project would this be sturdy enough?
Sincerely Alex

@AlexSicoli That depends on what the project is.

That looks like 6mm plastic, not 1/4".

Yes, but you need to use thicker acrylic as this will bow too much under pressure

This is helpful. Can you attach a hinged lid? if so... how?
