There's a delay because BKOs are usually caused by the cracking or rupturing of organs (in which case KO is due to loss of blood pressure.) Or by forcing of toxins back in to the blood stream, from an internal organ. (in which case KO is caused by blood toxicity. As if suddenly becoming very intoxicated.)

@algammond Some of them. The shots that land to the center of the body, just under the sternum, hit the solar plexus, which paralyzes your diaphragm and knocks all the wind out of you. There's one shot here, by Roy Jones Jr. I think, where the guy gets hit in the kidney, and the rest are pretty much all liver shots. Those do wind you, but the worst part is how badly they hurt. There's tons of blood, soft tissue, and nerves in the liver. I'm pretty sure it craps out a bunch of toxins when hit too

@ruebuscm The Roy Jones Jr. punch to Virgil Hill wasn't a kidney shot. In fact, it is illegal to throw a punch to the kidneys because repeated blows can cause it to fail. The punch Roy throws is definitely legal, because it hits the ribs- if you are able to watch the video, you can hear the ribs breaking. That's how loud that punch was. Definitely not a kidney punch.

Everyone loves the big cross or uppercut to the head for the KO, but there is something so much more satisfying about a body shot KO — as long as you're on the giving end and not the receiving end, because liver shots make you want to throw up, crap and die all at once.

I've never boxed and fortunately have never been hit in the liver in a fight but I have been hit in the solar plexus and that sucked really, really bad. I would have rather been knocked out.

It can also be downright embarassing, Arguello nailed a guy in the body so hard that he crapped himself in the ring. I always see it as this .... a headshot KO leaves you blissfully unconscious, but a ripping liver shot leaves you in waking agony.

Most of these are mid to late round KO's. There aren't too many people who can end a fight immediately against a pro fighter with a first round liver punch. That being said, every clean pop in the liver is money in the bank. Once you HURT a guy's body - he's not going to finish the fight.

A fighter can shake off a head shot. Virtually nobody shakes off a body shot. The trick is, giving and not taking one to the chin while your hands are low. It can be done, but its not always EZ

There's no real answer to that question. If you're not knocked out cold, u can regain your legs, get back up & if you survive the next 30 seconds or so, you'll be OK.

My experience, the only shorts that really hurt u are the ones u don't see coming. KO's are either caused by a guys head turning very quickly from the punch, or from absorbing a hard straight shot square on the chin giving the energy no place to go.

Your body protects itself if it sees, so there's no "perfect"spot
