So was Mt ArrowSmith a ski resort before? If it was a ski resort was it bigger or smaller then mt washington and roughly how many lifts and runs did it have?
The Old ski lodge was actually on Mnt Coakly. If your looking at the mt Arrowsmith from say Qualicum Beach it's the smaller mountain in front of Arrowsmith. The lodge is'nt in the same vacinity that this footage is taken. The area where the clip is taken appears to be between the two mountains called the saddle. The road into the area is very narrow with steep drops. During the winter months it was difficult to get to the ski area. The original lodge was torched by vandals.
A second attempt in the early 90's was made. A small building was erected and an old grader attemted to keep the road open. The was a lower cross country area and an upper lift area. I seem to recall 3 lifts. Or two lifts and a rope tow?
This attempt also failed and vandals again burnt the lodge. The towers and old grader have been mostly scavanged for the steel. There are still some old signs on trees and the runs are obvious. Some talk of putting in a gondola from Cameron Lake also surfaced.
Thanks for all the info! I used to think that Mt. Coakley was the Mtn that is somewhat parrallel to Mt Arrowsmith when youre passing Qualicum. The mtn thats about the same height of Arrowsmith. Any Idea what its called?
Finally! A video on Mt. Arrownsmith! I always wanted to see how much snow it actually get's. However, it does look pretty crappy when you went, though...
It was actualy pretty cool, the weather was changing constantly so for half hour it would be very stormy and than the sun would come out for a bit and the view was just fantastic :)that was in the spring, in the winter there is alot more snow.
Are the conditions to stormy for a good ski resort or is there not enough snow? ( i would think there would be enough since is is a good 250 meters taller then might washington.
men i hate it when people burn dow buildings and all that stuff

But, nothing ever happened. Currently they are still logging all around Mt Arrowsmith. It's looking ugly in places!!
You can drive to the old ski area or hike in from Cameron lake. It's a decent day hike from the lake to the top of Mt Coakley.
P.S. The ski operation at "Arrowsmith" was much much smaller than Mt Washington is today.

Do you think they could make this into a ski resort again? Even with those conditions?
