  • This tiny crane is a joke surely, if you want to see a couple of real cranes and the biggest dry dock in the world have a look at Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland.

  • @Flamorgan Tiny crane?? Guess again. Samson and Goliath gantry cranes at Harland and Wolff are roughly the same height, however, they only have a lifting capacity of 850 tons. This Goliath gantry built for Quincy is rated at 1,200 tons and once lifted a 1,600 ton test load. Almost twice the rated capacity of each one of the H&W Krupp cranes.

  • @audioshot Remember that the H&W cranes are rated in British ton which is 2240 lbs (1016 kg) and that American /Canadian ton is a lot less @ 2000lbs(907 kg), the H&W cranes have lifted over 2000 British ton together, they are physically bigger in every way and are located above the largest dry dock in the world.

  • How the heck did you get up in Goliath? My dad worked on those commuter boats for a few years and every day that I would go to work with him, we had to drive by Goliath. My family worked in that yard for many years. My great grandfather was an iron worker for the old ships. My dad actually had lunch up there once with one of his freinds who ran the crane. Damn you Quirk!!!!

  • How big are the supports at 0:48? Is like a big box beam section from top to bottom?

  • Thanks for this video, it was really cool to see the perspectives that I could only dream about as a kid. Sad to see it has moved on.

  • Oh Goliath =\ It honestly breaks my heart thinking about how a place so historic has turned into...a glorified parking lot. Watson must be rolling in his grave a bit every time someone in Quincy buys a new Kia. Someone had mentioned keeping Goliath in Quincy and turning him into a restaurant. I would've paid good money to have dinner with those type of views.

  • daewoo washed their money with this crane...buying a new one is cheaper than goliath...i`m working at Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries, i know what i`m talking about...f**k the koreans, and f**k the romanian politicians...they dropt us in abis,soon.....a new revolution...on its way!!!sorry for the young fellow

  • R.I.P Brother IW bobby,.. Bobby was a great kid,, i rode the bus to school with him when we were kids, we playd hockey together,, then we went to different high schools, andi didnt see him for 5 years,, then one day, my first day of ironworker apprentice school in 1999, or 2000, there he was.. Good hockey player, Good ironworker,, GREAT person..

  • My nephew was best friends with Bobby Harvey. He was a great guy. I did this video a couple years before his death.

  • @IRONSEAN7 I played hockey with him at QHS. One of the nicest kids I met in High school. Funny as hell too. R.I.P. bro

  • I am sorry that its gone. This crane was so big it could be seen in Downtown Boston.Too bad it couldn't have benn kept here in the United States where it belongs.I got real close to the Queen Elizabeth 2 when it drydocked in South Boston in the summer of 1992.

  • well the crane is gone now..and Quirk is hated for it.

  • Very impressive video.

  • Now you know how the Auto Industry is feeling, and the textile industry, furniture industry, and the footwear industry,etc.etc.

  • wow, can't believe what happened today with that collapse.

  • LOOKING ON THE NEWS AFTER I DROVE BY EARLIER TODAY.what killed the guy,the leg of the crane?

  • I believe so

  • god i'll miss this crane. And the whole shipyard as well wen i was little i saw the crane and we drove over the old bridge. Quirk sucks!!

  • 1 last thing for goliath before it goes were guna miss you goliath u made alot of history here and hopefully there will be 1 day where someone will fight for you 2 stay in quincy. 7-4-08 we will miss u :)

  • my dad used to be an engineer there and he quit his job im only 12 he told me the story but man i am guna miss that crane that crane made history in quincy and now its guna be taken down? man that sucks

  • I got the grand tour today(6-14-08)! Fantastic views! I can say I was one of the last people atop Goliath!

  • ive woken up everyday and seen that crane out the window,, now its gonna be gone, im a union ironworker, i would love to be part of the crew taking it down,, "MARR" is the name of the company doing the disasembly

  • Romania just bought the crane and it's going to be dismantled and shipped to Romania in the near future.

  • I use to live right on the Fore River, then I moved away from the river, but everytime I go towards Quincy I always used to see it when I was little! Right now I live like 10 minutes from Quincy. I always thought it looked like a dog. lol 4 legs and a head. Or a horse? lol. Is their anything we can do to stop them from moving it?!!?

  • Is it really being dismantled? I was in Quincy recently, but couldn't get close to it! Its a magnificent structure!!

  • Yeah, the new Korean owners already built a locked fence around it with office trailers and a power unit. They won't have it dismantled until June. The main part of the yard has security gates to get inside so you can't get near it. I happen to know the operator of the yard.

  • What are the Korean owners going to do with it? Ship it to Korea to build ships?

  • Daewoo bought it to be re-assembled at a Romanian Shipyard they own. Apparently, the yard it's going to has a large backlog of orders and an extra crane will help aleviate that. The used Goliath is more economical then buying a new crane of similar design.
