Thanks for your thanks AlwaysxBelieve! I think Wikipedia is a fine way to get info, I can understand why some faculty might not want it cited in research papers but that will change too. I use it for info that students need that doesn't require the academic rigor of a peer-reviewed publication. I link to entries in Wikipedia after I go through them. In many cases these entries can take the place of overly-expensive texts at the lower undergrad levels. :) Jim
I think it's awesome that Professor Janossy is open to getting information from Wikipedia rather than shutting down that site as a source like most other teachers do. Wikipedia's helped me a lot and you can typically get more understanding when listening to someone explain the information being presented rather than reading it yourself.
Hey computerman1231xxx--you're obviously an RTFM man and you're welcome to your opinions. This video wasn't created for folks like you. I created it for my students to tie together highlights of .jpg quality values and the GIMP photo editor they learn in one of my classes without mistakenly thinking that minutia is of interest to everyone. As to thanking WikiPedia it's not so much a thanks as a plea to folks to donate and help continue to make WikiPedia available to peeps including wise guys.

much better to read the wiki page on jpeg than to listen to his talk.
He just uttered the same thing after wasting 2 mins thanking wiki.
