  • Hank, Ray, Dean, and Jerry Lee are the best. Patsy cline comes in close behind Mr. Lewis. Elvis cant sing this song to safe his life.

  • OMG I was so unwise to think that Ray Charles was the only good version...smiles...how wrong was I as there are 5 versions...all have their very special style and I have to confess there really is not a great deal of difference in all of the 5 versions as they are all so so beautiful love each version equally...Elvis, Hanks, Deans, Rays and Jerry's...smiles...all of equal quality. Thougth maybe Jerry's was a little more up tempo and dynamic...But the others had that beautiful charismatic quality

  • This artist does it best I am sure I haven't heard the rest I will check them out. I will be back if there is anything better on the next comment

  • ABSOLUTE CLASSIC!

  • he sung from lower than his soul i love him too

  • Ray Charles is the best thing since sliced bread.

This is what music is all about.

  • brilliant

  • No one sings AND feels it like Ray! Emotional singing by far the best...

  • madnezz always will be xooxox

  • Excellent post. Laura

  • The man could take an old song and make it new. Thanks for this one John

  • Ray Charles could always do justice to any Hank Williams SR song!!!

  • As pleasant as other versions are, they don't express the wounded pride and pain of someone who's been cheated ,like Ray does---the sound fits the words! This song can't be sung with a smile on your face

  • those were the days. Left a man crying. Broken hearts cause alot of pain.

  • This old boy can sing, go Ray. Know you are singing in Heaven today.

  • thanks for the music

  • 3 people obviously don't have an ear for good music

  • Hank Williams would approve. I am certain that Bocephus approves. I most certainly approve!!! They didn't call it the genius of Ray Charles for nothin'!

  • one of my most fave songs... I NEVER KNEW HE DID THIS!!!

    pure love <3

  • hes the mannn wonderful aueeeee the okestraaa happy new year/2011 everyone

  • Not even close hank williams sr is the best version the original although I think its a tie for ray charales and patsy cline but again dont forget charlie prides version of this song is pretty awsome to.

  • still like patsys version better personally.

  • Maybe the best version ever.

  • Beautiful!

  • if you like Ray, listen to Sunnyland Slim-he was Ray before Ray

  • Oh what feelings the star Ray can resonate!

  • the best thing ever hank song ray singin might have be good together different voices but i think it would have woked

  • I love the positive comments...how refreshing from today's world!

  • I love this song!

  • The great Ray was not just the King of Soul, he WAS soul.

  • BRILLIANT

  • Awesome RAY!!! Thanks!!!

  • Always loved the voice of Ray Charles.

  • Why do ignorant fools demand that Musicans be judged like its a contest. Despite American Idol music is not a contest and the world would be a little less emotional if Patsy Cline, Elvis, Ray Charles and others dod not interprett this Hank Williams classic. A great song exists unto itself individual artist interprett and bring out different dimensions. That is why they are artists and not imitaters.

  • Why did he make this version so much slower than either the original or Elvis's 1965 version?

  • @rambam1204 Cause he wanted to muwahaha

  • RIP Ray Charles.

  • he was awsome but the patsy cline version is still my fav

  • brill come on simon you got to admite these oldies are the best

  • no one can sing this like ray charles!

  • king CHARLES

  • No one ad more sole than Ray Chales. I think he wanted to be a country singer form the start

  • Respect Mr Charles Respect. Thank you.

  • the hell with hanks version he wasn't blind n still knew how how to play music Ray charles was da best....

  • Oh Ray, you're the best. ^_^

  • i like hanks version, but ray does deserve credit

  • i could do without the backup vocals

  • actually I do believe it was Hank Williams that wrote this song.. if I'm wrong correct me but that was the first version I heard. I do like both but consider that Ray Charles makes it his own.. its the blues and the moan of his voice.. Slapnutzmalone.. I believe you need help. How dare you say those thing just because someone doesnt agree with you.. Everyone has a right to their own opinion.. thats what individuality is!

I like Ray's version better! He was one of the geatest blues men!!

  • is there somthing wrong with his shoulder or somthing or is he twitching?! .....Elvis's version was better though

  • you seriously shouldnt wish bad on people cuz all it does it come right back to you and b.t.w Elvis was the king of rock and roll he had THE! rythym and blue's in his soul UNLESS! you know Elvis's life story of how hard it was for him i would know where i was standing before i made a comment like that!

  • @Slapnutzmalone

Obs! The tablets aren't working, get some help.

  • @Slapnutzmalone Chill out! you are way over the top. Settle down.

  • @Slapnutzmalone

chill down man that is just awful...its all ok.

  • He's blind you idiot.

  • @elvis4ever1935 Duh, nobody beats THE KING!!

  • sorry if i upset anyone but this is definitley the version for me

  • God Love Ya Ray. You took a great song and made it yours.

  • The master!

  • My father was a big C&W fan and he i remember him playing this version every sunday while mum cooked sunday lunch.

it was one of the first songs i learned off by heart and Thanks to the great Ray took me on the road of musical dicovery that took me through the blues, country and soul.

all i can say is to my dad and mr Charles..THANK YOU.

  • great memory. thanks 4 sharing

  • britredneck i also have those same memories. Ray Charles , Eddie arnold, Ray Price, etc. thank you. music connects us all. through time and space. drohegda

I am have to let him go,

too sad 33 year of my life, waited, for the one only know how to lie???an cheat???

    s.d.p.b.

  • You sound sad there, man.

    Whats goin' on?

  • Awesome, just love Ray. He can sing anything.

  • This is great, but I have to admit that my fave version is Patsy Cline's.

  • This song is bringing peace to my heart. It's great!

  • awesome, thanks for this!

  • Damn,really don't understand how

he do it,sing this song as well

as Hank W Sr that feel like you

    raise your eyebrows.I personally

prefer Hank W Sr version, but Ray

    done it very well.

  • Brings tears to my eyes.

    Thank you from Canada.

  • Ray and Elvis could do anybodys song better . I don't know who sold songs better. I love both as vocalists

  • awe, respect, stunning...

  • This is great. Also check out Elvis' version.

  • Ray is king. No one has or will sing like he does. Thanks for posting this.

  • @Morgana0x hes good but he aint no hank on this track

  • God Bless you , Ray.

  • I usually wouldn't say this, but damn if there ever was a person who could take one of Hank's songs and do it better, he is it.

  • Well said.

  • Ray was one of the few artists that could take a major hit from a major singer and make it his own and not sound like he was trying to imitate the original artist. I think he was the kind of guy who could put extra icing on anyone else's cake. We'll all miss him in time to come. Rest now, Ray. The silence is deafening.

  • Ray singing Hank, don't get much better.

  • Ray....you are so wonderful and will live forever or as long as someone digs your chops and thats.....forever. Rip buddy.

    Rango8

  • Isnt this the same place he played Eleanor Rigby???

  • they really picked the best actor for his role Ray, Jamie Fox was a natural. He really looks almost just like him.

  • Great-- so effortless - thanks for posting.

noted reads, had to laugh at your posting.

"racially different in-laws, and my culturally different(weird) son... :-)"

The good news is that your in-laws are what they are, but your son will change. got to say, kids today are less snotty about admitting to liking "dad-or mum" music. They like what they like from whatever genre, and generally say so. When I was young we were more worried about being branded as square if we said we liked ballads

  • How refreshing to hear that. I'm grateful after reading so many ageist comments in the past.

  • Yeah, it's kinda crazee for this to be tagged "pop" when a simple tag of "Ray" is more appropriate. Dude was da s**t. He was so comfortable in any genre that he approached. One of only a handful of artists I could enjoy with my Dad (southern blues-gospel), my wife(top40-AOR crap), my racially different in-laws, and my culturally different(weird) son... :-)

  • tagged as pop? >_>

  • i know kinda doesnt fit it considering its a Hank Williams song Ray is one of the only people who covered it well

  • cool
