well, am not a pilot, but think, that if you accidentally land like this one, the best option is to switch of the rotor blades, not to try lift the helicopter. what an asshole.
If you listen to the narration, the guy actually states that this was a training mission, they were practicing landing on water to pick up injured people. The helicopter safely landed and took off, however once it got to about 3-5 meters, the engine failed, so it crash-landed again. While attempting to restart the engine and take off, he hit water with the blades.
Making jokes about situations when people die due to technical failures is kind of dumb.
@sertox12345 Actually this is an emergency manouver, and very risky. Landing was fine, but he misjudged the takeoff, as soon as the nose was under it was all over.
Don't you just hate those dumb fucks that try to make "in Soviet Russia" jokes, totally clueless about the played-out nature of the joke, yet still incapable of coming up with anything witty and just ending up making themselves look like total fuckwits?
It appears as if he either lost power or throttled back after lift-off. You can tell by the rotor speed and tail rotor quickly losing speed. Where he messed up was trying to take off again with half the thing submerged underwater, which canted the rotor into the tail destroying it in seconds. He should have shut down and throttled back.
@MtaBus5102 the helicopter floats, the people inside don't besides he was still strapped in, in a now ruined helicopter, he could of died when the thing came undone....
Yea I am inclined to agree with one of the engines loosing power, you could see the helo yaw hard before it started to drop, you could see him puling as much colective as he could but on one engine in a hover guess he could not hold it. I can see that impact poping some rivits and flooding the hull so even on both engines it would have been hard to keep the helo stable with water sloshing around in the belly. Watching the rotor strike the tail boom was pretty frightining too!
It is not necessary so categorically - "idiot"!!! You do not know circumstances at which there was a failure!!! There was a refusal of one of engines!
when it landed, it landed so hard that the hull ruptured and it began taking on water, and when the pilot tried to lift off again it was unbalanced and weighed down by the water causing its nose to dive. I think 1 person died.
I have heard of seaplanes with the same problem except they often stall with the water rushing down the back.... if only he could have hovered in ground effect long enough for enough to drain out. He used all his rotor speed getting up out of ground effect - only one way to go then. Russian gear is pretty tough - he must have landed hard to start? Maybe rotor disc whatever that stalls the blades sometimes?
That's an amphibian, no? The copter was either overloaded or one of the floats was defective. It shouldn't have sunk that far down into the floats.
Once it was in the water like that, the only thing they could have done was get a tow. Or it might have been possible to very gently throttle up, and pull the copter up on the floats before trying to lift.
Either way, operator error. A pilot should never allow his craft to be overloaded.
oh that poor water, what did it ever do to deserve that..
