• Hey-that's the loaf of bread kid!

  • She might have forgot the sled, but I haven't forgotten this as a memory which sticks out in my mind. The way that the clothing items became 'animated' when she described them is priceless!

  • Is it possible to see any of the Thelma Thumb cartoons by John Korty.

  • yes!!!!! this is the same girl who remembered all the stuff at the store!!!!!!

  • I remember the "Loaf of Bead" skit to this day!

And I used to get up on Saturday mornings at 6am to watch Vegetable Soup before the cartoons started.

Thank you to you & your uncle for the amazing childhood memories!!! :-)

  • Too bad your cute little laugh was cut out! :) Wonderful flute music! Cool to know that YOU were the voice!

  • Looks like it was part of CBC's "Canadian Sesame Street" program. Hence the CBC logo on the right hand side. Love the Jazz Flute music in this cartoon! And wasn't there a scene at the end where the little girl giggles after she forgot her sled & had the snow plopping on her head?

  • Well, This is so funny. I was the voice to this skit! My uncle did the anaimation for this skit! I've been looking for these clips! My uncle's studio, Wantu I believe was the name of his studio, did the animation for Vegetable Soup. Wow! You Tube has everthing. I was searching for my uncle because I lost contact with him many years ago. I found the Vegetable Soup DVD on Ebay. The seller sent me the links to this and the 2 other skits my mother my cousin and me did for Sesame Street.

  • As a twerp I remembered these as a kid. My mom got mad at me for saying A loaf bread quart of milk and a stick of butter. Got her mad. I did it just to tick her off. She worked at a Day Care Center for 23 years. Sesame Street was on.

  • What is funny is that your voice has been in hundreds if not thousands of "kids" heads for 20+ years. I adore this cartoon, always have, and I hope you find your uncle!

  • Oh, I loved reading your post! That's so wonderful that you were able to do this and to see it again. Sweet. Did you find your uncle? I hope and pray so!

  • Before I read your comment, I was wondering if this was the same artist/animator! I bet he did the "Cat in the middle" cartoon on electric company -I just found it! COOOL as hell, I just showed it to my 5 year old not too long ago. He loved it. The music behind these cartoons is mind-blowing! Tell your uncle THANKYOU for being so creative!

  • Hope you had as much fun making these as we did watching them :)

  • I wish I could remember being in the studio doing the voice. But I was about 6 or 7 and really don't remember much. I did fly out to visit my uncle in July and he's currently working on a calendar for 2010 and a few other projects.

  • It's a shame you don't really remember much, but neither do I from that age. You certainly had the best voice for the little girl.

  • You were the voice?! lol, that's so awesome... I remember watching this when I was a kid... :) memories!!!

  • @voluplady42 thank you!!! what others besides the two did you do? i loved them as a kid and still recite the stick of butter one in the store...

and what was vegetable soup? it sounds really neat, like something i can share with my 3 year old..

  • @voluplady42 OMG...loved his animation on Sesame Street AND Vegetable Soup! He also did the SUPER COOL "Hey Diddle Diddle" with the cats, didn't he? :) This was WONDERFUL and so was your voice! (though they cut off your giggle at the end of this one...) Growing up in colorado, I was always fascinated by the NYC accents of the kids voices they often featured on sesame street. Glad you have these for yourself, finally. :)

  • I think the last few seconds is cut, I believe she laughs at the end after the snow falls on her.

  • This animation style is very similar to that found Vegetable Soup, both have those stringy, abstract character designs. I wonder if the same animator worked on both.

  • Right. It's Jim Simon. Peace.

  • I love this. But my favorite is the stick of butta. :)

  • thats my favorite too. do you know where to find that clip?

  • i love this kind of animation. it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside and makes you feel like a kid again.

  • I remember this, thanks for posting.

  • she forgot to mention the pants she was going to wear

  • It's the "Loafa bread, acontana of milk, and a stick uh butta" girl!

  • yeah lol i thought it sounded like her!

  • That's what I was going to say!

  • ah yes! Sooooo remember this one....and when I watched it I was thinking about how I dressed the same way and felt the same way about the snow during a snowstorm...fun!

  • i remember this real well, thanks

  • Ahh, Wantu Studios' Jim Simon. One of the few black animators back in the day. I love how his characters "prance" instead of walk. I also think this cartoon is about as soothing and atmospheric as it gets. "Goodnight, snow. See you tomorrow..."

This should have also been A CHILDREN'S BOOK.

  • I just noticed that the boots inexplicably disappear at 0:26, only to reappear on her feet!

  • I love this one because it reminds me of the artwork of Jack Ezra Keats' "Snowy Day".

  • I remember this as a child

  • I haven't seen this since I was 5, at least, and I completely remembered that character and it having something to do with food - bread, etc., and then I read the comments, and I def. remember the other segment too.

The voice/animation style made me feel funny as a kid, but a lot of segments on S.S. did that, so it's no big surprise.

  • I used to like this as a kid but now it just reminds me of how much I HATE snow now. lol

  • Aww, I want to play in the snow too! (Stupid unseasonable warmth...)

  • That voice just brings me back! Also I love the white cat on the floor.

  • Im 6, YEAAAAAAAAAAAA IM 6 !

  • This kid along with his new sled apparently also forgot to put on pants before going out.

  • that's because it's a girl.

  • Oh so apparently female children don't wear anything to clothe their lower halves before going out to play in the snow?

  • lol, they used to didnt... they just wore warm stockings and longer dresses. *shrug* it was probably just an oversight

  • Brrrrrrr. Too chilly, methinks.

  • this is one of my favorites. You're lucky to have the complete version, when I saw this on S.S. (USA) sometime around 2000 the film ended when the kid went to bed.

  • Jim Simon did another segment similar to this one, with the same little kid doing the voice. It was "6 Years Old Today". The dialogue included, "I'm six, I'm six, I'm six years old today! I'm more than one. I'm more than two. I'm more than three. I'm much more than four. I'm even more than five. Can you guess how old I am?"

  • youtube 5zkxjvJK8Eg

  • sorry, "vegetable soup"..

  • Ohhh yeah! You're absolutely right. Tee Collins did clips such as "Nancy The Nannygoat" and "Wanda The Witch". I love Jim Simon. By the way, Agents, is he still with us...? Living? ... I hope...?

  • it's funny you should ask, I'm currently in the process of trying to track that info down.. I've got this dream to exhibit all of his works in an art gallery here in Portland. *I'd* sure love to track him down.

  • check *this* out.. a whole discussion board about "alphabet soup". And an interview with a producer of the show..

  • it's actually Jim Simon, come to find out.. google "jim simon animator" and you'll find him.

  • Animated by Tee Collins, an African-American animator who also gave us "A Loaf of Bread, A Container of Milk, and A Stick of Butter." As Page rightly told us.

  • is that cartoon here on Youtube?

  • The was a show in the 70's that this animator did the opening for.. called "alphabet soup"..in the portland area, the show came on early sunday mornings, and the crumpled faces of the characters (who were dancing to funk) confused and frightened me.. anyone know who this animator is? He/She also did an Electric Company short thath had a football player saying "throw IT to me.." ending with a huge "IT" falling on him.. pretty cool..

  • Oh man - I am there with you with the "confused and frightened" bit. His stuff for Vegetable Soup scared the hell out of me. I appreciate it as an adult, but back then I hated it.

  • Ya'll got my curiosity up and I went and watched some vegetable Soup. You're right. That would have scared the hell out of me! lol

  • remember all these

  • a loaf a bread, a container a milk, and a stick a butta - i remembered, mommy, i remembered!

  • That's cute. I like the voice they used. I saw the other comment about her being the one who went for the butter, bread and milk and I'd love to see that one now!

  • I love that voice too. Doesn't it kind of sound like she's talking with a mouthful of spit? All her 's's, 't's, 'l's and 'n's are very "juicy", for lack of a better word.

  • love this one. i like the other one she was in, when she gos to the store, and gets a loaf of bread some milk and a stick of butter. kinda makes me wonder in this cartoon, if she lives alone in that apartment.

  • Ooooh...I want to see the clip that came before this one, with the purple turtle! Can you get it and upload it?

  • i remember that turtle thing vaugly
