Hedberg and Rhodes were great friends...both of them equally tight with Doug Stanhope. It's not about who is better or worse. It's about what came out of the weekends of drugs and degradation that arose during the meeting of such minds.

How can you even compare Hedberg and Rhodes? They're two completely different comedians, not doing the same style of comedy. Not even close. They have about as much in common as Carrot Top and Lenny Bruce. I'm not saying one is better, I'm just saying they're not alike.

He's very good. And he predates Hedberg...but let's be honest, this guy is MASSIVELY influenced by Bill Hicks. Not a criticism, but it's definitely evident.

hey poops1 - Tom Rhodes was one of Mitch Hedbergs influences. Tom has never had another job other than a standup comic, he was on the road at 17 yrs old.Tom had been doing standup 10 yrs when Mitch stumbled into his SanFran apt. There is not a more prolific comic out there, he has volumes of original comedy , written over decades on the road.He has performed thousands of shows globally.

i guess if ya wanna get technical, you are right,its still showbiz, and showbiz isnt like work because we love it.The travel show had a humorous thread and the talk show featured stand up every week.The point i was trying to make was Tom has never been a shoe salesman, or a grave digger, or a ticket taker..He is a purist when it comes to his ''art'' and poop1 had his facts wrong.

agreed, this guy is totally unoriginal, i liked him the first time around. oh wait, that was mitch hedburg, the talented comedian that tom rhodes shamelessly copies..

look up mitch hedburg, one of dave letterman's favorites, coulda had his own show, but was too messed up by drugs till he died of an OD. tom rhodes is a first class douche for copyin him. even his movements on stage, his speech patterns, are exact imitations.... ridiculous

That's "Hedberg", not "-burg". He died of heart failure, not OD, and had a history of congenital cardiovascular problems rather than one of drug abuse. He was never too 'messed up' on drugs or any other substances to perform or to create new material. In closing, if you listen to Hedberg first and Rhodes after, you can find some similarities in their speech, but that's a far cry from 'proving' Rhodes an unoriginal hack.

He is so mellow in person. Super great guy.
