  • Very good effort by Cheryl. I appreciate the intention, respect and stretch.

  • kinda country, but I like Crow

  • This is a tribute...its Joe's signature tune and can't be bested...no contest. She does it very well.

  • This is bringing 70's music to the "young uns" I say thanks Sheryl. Check out Chilli Peppers "Brandy" and the Foo Fighters with John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page. Also the Fighters with Alex Lifeson & Geddy Lee. I have over 5000 vinyl albums & singles...so....what do you need to know. Smile.

  • Sounds good; I like Van Halen version too.

  • Not bad at all.

  • Nice version of my favorite James Gang tune.

  • not bad for a different version but i prefer the original...way better than her cover of Black Betty!!!

  • No one will ever touch the James Gang. That being said...this is better than the Eagles version.

  • Nice work!!

  • Who cares what people think, Sheryl? The song grooves like magic. Talk is cheap because supply exceeds demand. I am a pro drummer and I'd be honored to play with you anywhere, anytime!

  • Not bad, I give it a thumbs up.

  • I loved it. I'm old and saw Joe W. several times, with the Gang and the Eagles. They and he were great. So is Sheryl. I like all her stuff, cover or not.

  • its ok.

  • totally Soul-Less

  • I think Van Halen's version might be better. :(

  • Her voice is weak at best! Totally overrated! Peter Rocks!

  • Yeah Sheryl baby.... rock that James Gang tune!! Go girl...... : )

  • Nice rendition. Had "James Gang: Thirds" when I was a teen. There may be haters out there, but c'mon, who is going to expose the next generation to this music unless SOMEBODY covers it? Sheryl keeps the flame burning with some really beautiful choices.

  • I'm a big James Gang / Joe Walsh fan. My fav. thing about Eagles concerts is always the Joe Walsh break where he usually does Walk Away, '49 and Midnight man along with a solo or two. Seeing Sheryl do this is fine too. Watch again and watch the youngsters in the audiance bouncing. Anything that spreads the faith is food with me.

  • not going to approve that, are you?

  • Great song, great and beautiful singer/bass player

  • I heard a local band play this with more feeling and energy. This truly sucks.

  • PERFECTION

    JAMES GANG:

    /watch?v=g4Wr5Wq5QHM

    ENJOY THE ORIGNAL

  • Sheryl on Bass?

  • I like it

  • yea im gonna walk away from this one

  • Bravo, Bravo Sheryl and that comes from a BIG TIME JAMES GANG FAN, almost 40 years of Fan love for the Gang and my idol.....rip, TOMMY BOLIN ! Yes, I know joe plays guitar on that tune but I love Tommy, he's my hero. Anyway....great job sweetheart.

  • I agree it's the singer not the song.

  • excellent version, one that joe walsh would definitely approve of. and the original is pretty laid back, actually, other than joe's voice straining because it's out of his range.

  • Ignore the HATERS! Eventually, and thankfully, they will all die off. Crow and her band do a great job covering a Joe Walsh classic. Period. ~

  • Thank you for posting!

  • Thank for posting

  • She has the right voice for this song.

  • Hey, Lay off of Sheryl, She is not the greatest singer of all time but she trys and has a few really good songs.Plus doing a cover of a rock legend, Joe Walsh. He is in the top 100 greatest guitarist s list no matter what the Rolling Idiot magazine says.Joan Jett is on the list And she would not make pimple on Joes butt.

  • @scott4xtc Yeah, besides, who's sexier?

  • She has the right voice to cover this.

  • Awesome! Two thumbs up! Five stars (out of five)! Thank you, Sheryl from all of us cover band musicians who play tunes like this until the cows come home (or the bar empties out at 4 am)... I know Joe Walsh would kiss your boots after hearing this! Slainte!

  • Gotta give Sheryl props. Most chick singers nowdays probably never even heard of The James Gang. She did this song justice. I dig it.

  • She is lame...Priceless! No...Justin Bieber is lame. Her band is bad ass...and she can sing incredibly well..period

  • Sounds great to me. Ease up on the girl....

She covers a lot of cool old tunes and shows her influence from them. She's one of the best chick rockers out there.

  • @wobrien007 I couldn't agree more - oh wait a minute yes I could !! I have always thought a female voice is better suited to rock than a male voice particularly when there are very high notes !! Some male singers can no longer get to them !!

Someone else with a great voice for hard rock is Ann Wilson of Heart try her versions of Zeppelin songs

I always wanted to hear Zepp with a female voice - She obliged !!

  • she is lame

  • fuckin awesome! 10 stars...

  • @sxxydon What !! only 10

  • Great fan of Joe walsh and Sheryl Crow.. Love sheryl's cover

  • Tesla covers this song much better,it's just odd to hear a chic singing it.

  • @peteelliedaisy What is truly odd is the number of male rock singers who insist in trying to sing above their natural range - We need women in rock to sing the high notes that men have in their heads but can't always deliver. Robert plant can't scream soprano like he used to - Ann Wilson ( Heart) no problem.

Search Youtube for Heart versions of Zepp - You will be surprised. !! ( honest )

  • there is nothing wrong with this performance. If I was to critique it would be the drumming. The drummer is great, no doubt about it, but I would have included the explosive drum fills Jim Fox does on his live perfomances. It really adds alot. I think this drummer played it pretty clean, which is fine, but I think the fills add so much to the song. That is just my opinion though.

  • Sheryl is groovin'! She's singing this tune like she does everything else. - w/ class, finesse and she sounds cool as sh*t!

  • They come pretty dang close to capturing the spirit of the original - nice job. Nobody is going to match the gravitas of Joe Walsh and the fantastic original drummer of the James Gang.

  • Negative comments? I'm glad I missed them. come on she's not Joe Walsh, and isn't trying to be. If you've never played this song maybe you could miss how much fun and energy the whole band is putting into this performance. By the way she's doing this in A. get out a bass and play along you'll be hooked. If you don't like it just WALK AWAY!

  • @DenzilShowers I think you mean " If you don't like it - Then just turn your pretty head and walk away !!

I did like it. I listened to it twice !! and then down loaded it and walked away !!

  • Sorry, but every version on here by Joe Walsh is terrible! Especially the one with the Eagles in 1977. Some of the James Gang's versions are OK, except for Joe's playing and singing! I know that musicians don't want to play carbon copies of their hits, but in my opinion, if you can't IMPROVE it, then stick with the original arrangement. I do think that Ms. Crow could've put a little more passion in her vocals, but her band just smokes, especially the classic ending......

  • I like this version. What she may supposedly lack in vocal talent is more than made up by the awesome backing musicians.

  • she disfigured another brilliant classic...sob

  • watered down version.......no feelin like how Joe brought it!!

  • Sheryl Crow is so talented, plays piano, guitar, and bass on this video even, sings and is a music coach and teacher. She rocks, good job on the video. Great tune.

  • In defense of Sheryl Crow: I have always appreciated her "laid back" style of this and other songs she has performs..most notably "All I Wanna Do Is Have Some Fun." She's a throwback to the early 1970s..back in my late teens,....and yes she is a lovely lady. Sheryl rocks...'nuff said!

  • @bluesonthelake

The song is NOT a laid back song, it was never intended or SUNG that way (singer mad) , so singing it that way is STUPID. Second i am a drummer and her drummer really cannot play. I would be embarassed to even try to play the song like that!!

  • she sings like she's half asleep. boring and passionless. manufactured. stick to the original, it's the only one that matters.

  • Oh Hell Yes!!! Finest Kind. Would love to hear her do Funk #49

  • I think it would have been better if Sheryl Crow had performed with James Gang. Male AND female harmonics would probably sound pretty cool.

  • She is terrible

  • I just discoverd The James gang a few weeks ago, then stumbled across this.

    Boss tune, Very well done.

  • Put me in the "I Love It" camp on this one. Always liked both James Gang and Sheryl and I think she did a great cover on this. She even looks sexy in that funky hat, lol.

  • this sucks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ironcowboy58 You get up there and do better, THEN run your mouth!!! I'll admit it is not quite as exciting as the JG, but the harmonies are there.

  • Sounded great, although the lead singer would be better at C&W

  • I saw James Gang do this several times and jSheryl and her band nail it! This is a great cover in the Crowe style. It is not supposed to be an exact reproduction of the original but an interpretation as this artist sees it. I think even Joe Walsh would be proud.

  • A fantastic version in my opinion. I might be a bigger fan of Joe Walsh but I think this is very well done.

  • @GU174RM4N

I like it, too. It's not as good as Joe's--but then, what ever could be?

  • She should do us all a big favor and walk away. It's a folkie attempting a hard rock song. WTF!? she sounds lobotomized and ready for a nap. The band should have learned this correctly also. Their time is off. Her doing rock classic covers is akin to when Pat Boone tried it many moons ago. It sounds silly.

  • that drummer plays washmachine beats

  • This song is one of the best I have ever heard, BUT this band ruins it !!!!

  • the 2 guitarists play with McCartney

  • She's Always The Best

  • the drummer is a douche.. killed the song..

  • i like the original wayyy more but hes not really playing much different

  • what the hell are you talking about?

    he nailed it

  • correction, this band including Sheryl Crow killed this song, the orginal had

that great seventies energy. This had the same appeal that all of her covers have, ZERO..

  • for sure

  • Whoa, great! WTH did you find this?

Could she be playing a clear Armstrong?

    Thanks for posting.

BTW WTH is where the heck.........

  • Isn't Sheryl Crow so cool! I love this chick!

  • Great post man - I love Sheryl Crow & her band....She is an All-American rocker chick & I am down with that!

  • And you did Joe's solo note for note.

    What a pro!!!

You all did the Gang proud!!!
