  • Tim is the best

  • whos the singer in ice earth now?

  • @dadfisher123

    Stu Block :)

  • @dadfisher123 a total badass vocalist Stu Block! I hope they keep him for a good while! Guys a beast!

  • @dadfisher123 MOTHER FUCKING STU BLOCK! Dude is a worthy replacement for Barlow.

  • Tim is a great vocalist, but he can't pull this stuff off live. Just being honest. I'm sure Stu Block can though.

  • Tim is a beast

  • what kind of people click dislike on ten thousand strong?!

  • @DeathMetalBeaver The Setians

  • 3:21...that's what the Ripper is known for

  • it's amazing how awesome Ripper has gotten, i saw him when i was 15 and he just started touring with Priest, and he was good, but this....this is amazing. Last i saw him was in 08 with Yngwie, and btw 3:24 .....holy shit \m/

  • Matt and tim can both scream (like at the start of this song). Matt may be a bass, and tim not.... but matt can cover everything :)

(burnt offerings is a good example of some crazy vocals by him :D)

  • Matt, Bring back the Ripper!!

  • Matt Barlow is a bass. Ripper is not. Their ranges are totally different. The tone of Matt's voice just sounds better to me.

  • @ezraholmes01

Wrong, Matt ist a baritone ;)

  • @MajinMind Do to your grammical error, I'm not sure what you're trying to say. Either way, Matt's voice is naturally low as hell, this isn't disputable.

  • @ezraholmes01 due*

  • If Ripper made a song with Michael Romeo, Billy Sheehan, Jordan Ruddess, and Thomas Lang the sun would explode.

  • Why does Jon sound EXACTLY like George Clooney???

  • laaAaaaAAAAaAaAaAaAaAauw :)

he is good there is no argument on that but i couldn't love him why i dont know. i am a huge fan of barlow and i totally agree that this is a ripper song i still love matt more :)

and i loved that Stu Block guy too

  • Great song, I would loved to see this with a great quitly and a better performance from tim but what can you do. still happy to see this and I cant wait for the new charred ablum!

  • hail the ripper indeed

  • just to stop the arguments, Charred Walls of the Damned are better than Iced Earth with any of the 3 singers.

  • @NumeroUnoGringo They're great, but no.

  • This is going to be one badass song live now with Stu Block on the mic

  • @SpikyPeahorn yeah i like Stu, he sounds pretty good. I like what he did on the new album, i cant wait to hear him sing some earlier stuff!!

  • @SpikyPeahorn we just have to w8... i personally think he will kicks ass as tim do it, have u heard dystopia? what a great job man... Sry man english plz... it my opinion.

  • Iced Earth lost so much when they fired Ripper!!!

  • @blackeneddarkangel agreed, Jon should've kept him, i don't think Ripper would've quit IE in the first place like Barlow did

  • They sound good live.

  • As much as I love Barlow and Ripper...GREENLY smokes Ripper, but barely beats Barlow. Barlow cant do those wonderful death growls like in "The Path I Choose."

  • leeeeeeeeAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!

fuck i love that first scream

  • I thought Matt had issues with this song because of the pitch and the vocal style when watching his 2008 performance, but now that I watch this, it really isn't much better. It's just a hard song to perform live. There's a reason they don't do The Phantom Opera Ghost live either.

  • you guys are idiots! they are both amazing singers with slightly different pitch and tones. both were amazing on all recorded songs. matt does rippers songs great, and ripper did matt's songs great as well too. either way, they're a tremendous band! stop arguing over who's better. as long as they're making music, that's all that means anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Woo, I thought Ripper would sound better live :/

  • this song is written around Ripper's voice

  • Ok I will agree this songs vocal structure is made for the ripper. Believe me I can tell. It just seems that Barlow has more POWER in his vocals. I like them both really and I have been comparing. Just seems like Barlow has way more balls with his singing. Anyways they are both great!

  • why did ripper leave?

  • @seafloorr Well there original singer Matt Barlow joined the army shortly after 911 and the ripper took over while he was gone. Now Barlow is back...not like they kicked him out or anything he knew this would happen eventually.

  • Comment removed

  • @seafloorr Matt Barlow came back. When 9/11 happened Matt Left Iced Earth to become a cop. Then he came back and ripper left

  • Und das kam im WDR??

  • so... he must have given up his American Chopper gig ;)

  • This is the Ripper's song. I love Matt Barlow's vocals but this is the Ripper's song and Matt can't pull it off the way The Ripper can. Just like how Ripper can't really pull off Matt's songs the way he does. Different vocal styles guys, both are pretty fucking awesome.

  • Matt Barlow Rules !!!!!11

  • What have we leart? Never wear blue jeans on stage -.-

  • im not taking any side, but has anyone seen the video of the song Dracula live by the ripper? i think after that song shaffer decided that the ripper isnt good enough for the band becoz, believe it or not, tim owens made 2 obvious mistakes live on stage, it sounds really embarrassing...

  • I hate everyone who argues over bands singers. It's always the same. Maiden, Sabbath, Iced Earth etc, etc. Who's best. All singers are good in their own ways. Barlow and Ripper.

  • Only Ripper can pull this song off. Matt just doesn't have "it" the way Tim does...!

  • @dyrtygypsy yea veins started popping out in is head when he tried!

  • IS tim sick while singing? Because this is not his 100 percent.

  • i agree, love em both too tho, love how ripper acends each note in singing framing armageddeon, dude has the shit to make the gods weep!!!

  • Wacken always makes the bass to loud >:O.

  • Jon picks singers like Ozzy picks guitarists, only the best will do!

  • the sound quality of Graspop isnt the best..also i met the band on this tour Matt Barlow was sicker than a dog for the duration of this tour, and he still owns Ripper on this..Ripper is NOT a vocalist hes a jackass who can howl..HE cant even sing this live..ever listen to him butcher meloncholy..."look at DA pain aroun meh.." as a man whos job is lyrics and only thing he has is his voice you'd think he'd take the time to enunciate his words properly....

  • so good live!

  • This is one song that Barlow can't sing very well... Big deal. Ripper doesn't sound that great live either... Thin head voice is used throughout. Barlow has a better tone than Ripper and is his own singer. He didn't rise to fame by being like another singer like this guy. He created his own amazing unique style.

  • @GameJourney and what about that? Everyone's judgement about Ripper is for not being jenuine and that he started his career with covers. Is there any singer in this planet who didn't? Many prefer the original singers in JP and IE because they grew up with them, but that's not objective judgement m8s. He is an excellent singer and he sounds great in every group he joins, that is the only truth. His voice fits in any group and cover he ever tried. He is the most underrated singer ,1 of the best ever

  • I'm a power metal singer of no little ability, and I can tell you that this is the most difficult song I have ever come across in my life! The verses and choruses don't give you any space to breathe, and the vocals are high, especially if you follow the studio version.

  • @RunicAxe

im glad ripper is out of Iced earth. shauffer is a pompous ass who did not deserve ripper. barlow sucks and sounds too much like shithead james hetfield.

  • @The61769 you are fagot

  • @ImMuslimwarrior

Learn to spell what you are FAGGOT. You been fucking too many little girls and boys.

  • @ImMuslimwarrior

aaww big baby still mad??? lol

  • @RunicAxe i'll second that

  • if u like iced earth search promitheos and check out the new incredible video ten thousand strong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Poor barlow cant sing this song what a shame

  • Very impressive, I love this song. I wish that Jon would let the other musicians chip in on the chorus though, just him and Tim singing really takes away the powerful choral effect that's so awesome on the studio release. Even if they other musicians aren't great singers, I'm sure they each have at least a 2 note scale which is all that is necessary to chant out the chorus.

  • @Eddyneko thats a good idea

  • Barlow is great but, Owens owns.

  • I absolutely love Ripper. Matt Barlow is my favorite vocalist, but Ripper has a great voice. Ripper's work with Iced Earth was really refreshing, though I'm glad that Matt is back.

  • I like both versions of the song. But i think Barlow fits in better with Iced Earth.

  • This guy is a monster

one of the best vocals of rock and metal actually!!!

    He Really Owens!!

  • ICED EARTH is god lol, both Matt Barlow and Tim Owens work wonders when in Iced Earth. I love both vocalists, but yeah ICED EARTH MOTHAFUCKAS!!!! =D

  • i dont care if barlow cant do this. high pitch isnt his style, its not iced earth style. Ripper is like a substitute singer anyway. (i laugh at how he just fills in for singers better than him.) im glad barlow is back

  • @turnstylen lol how can you talk shit about ripper? Dude is definetly talented...99.9% of the people who view this video cannot do what he does.... i like barlow for his lows and ripper for his bruce dickinsonesque style

  • The problem is that Owens and Barlow are very different singers.

Schaffer wrote the songs with a given singer in mind - they don't fit the other one, mostly.

Personally, I just like the songs from the Barlow era more - but Ripper is awesome on "his" songs, particularly on Framing Armageddon.

  • Finally a reasonable statement on these two singers. Thank you.

  • @metaldrummer4444 .. He might have, the problem was that when ripper was in iced earth he ruined every of their earlier songs with his whiny voice -.- Barlow ftw! Ripper is still an awesome singer, no offense but Barlow is the man for Iced Earth :D

  • Comment removed

  • Every time i look at Owens, he reminds me of Paul jr from American Chopper. lol Hes an awesome singer, and I.E. is an awesome band. Being a patriotic American, the Glorious Burden album gets me pumped!

  • HAIL THE RIPPER!!!!!!

  • @wajahatkhan From the movie?? xD

  • matt barlow has much trouble with this song. watch the live version of this at graspop in 2008. he doesnt compare to ripper

  • @metaldrummer4444 this song wasnt for barlow....it was for ripper...besides we dont want to listen to ripper singing "Dracula" do we?

  • I do.

  • Speak for yourself.

    I do !!!

  • @metaldrummer4444

Course Matt can't sing a song like this. They have a completely different style of singing and different "natural" vocal range. Matt did struggle with some of the Stormrider Stuff as well (Angels Holocaust and Travel in Stygian in particular). Nevertheless... I'd like to hear the ripper pull off Dante's Inferno. Is there a version of that somewhere to be found? I can't imagin him to nail a song like that...

    Both great singers anyways.

  • @metaldrummer4444 watching this video the idea you get is that ripper has not got trouble singin this song? It's a difficult song...ripper is a great singer but you can't say he is better than Barlow just because you like his voice. You can say "I prefer his voice from Barlow's".Honestly i think they are both great singers but Barlow's voice is more intense...you know, feelings!

  • @metaldrummer4444 ypu are right but barlow is a great singer too

  • @metaldrummer4444

imagine ripper singing watching over me...ok he want have a problem but i cant think that song so high on vocals...brrr...

  • @metaldrummer4444: On this song. I would LOVE to hear Owens attempt anything soulful like, I dunno, Dracula, Watching Over Me, Melancholy, Come What May, any of the songs from Barlow's Iced Earth career?

Barlow's voice is soulful and of varying ranges, and the songs are written around that quality.

Owens' songs are just written around his shrieking. He's missing half of his range, as we can hear in this video. He's a Halford wannabe and little more. Talented, don't get me wrong. But Hail Barlow

  • @metaldrummer4444 lol to be honest he is having just as much trouble plus this song is meant for his vocal style/range. But listen to the over reveberation and delay on his voice... lol Barlow can't do it because its not his song Ripper is actually having trouble at some points if listen carefully. the reverb is almost masking it. if you want to hear it put the volume really loud through good speakers you'll hear it. Ripper is amazing but this song is just hard to sing live period.

  • @metaldrummer4444 very true statement

Ripper destroys him, Barlow is still a good singer though.

  • @metaldrummer4444

Actually I've seen videos of Matt doing it in 09 and one from this year where he nails it. I'm a little disappointed with Ripper in this video too, I expected him to be a little more on with it.

  • @metaldrummer4444

Search for: 09.Ten Thousand Strong - Iced Earth - Sao Paulo

  • @metaldrummer4444 nobody compares to the ripper

  • @metaldrummer4444 that's because barlow's style is not like "SCREEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMM" all the time like ripper owens.

barlow's voice is so much deeper and stronger that owen's. he is a SINGER... not a YELLING VOCALIST as the ripper.

annyway... matt kicks tim in the nuts and now he's out of iced earth. thank god for that!

    HAIL MATT BARLOW!!

  • @dharcoon Just a question, why did Iced Earth use both Ripper and Barlow on the "Gettysburg epic"?

Cause after that album Barlow came back, what happened to Barlow when Ripper was singing with IE?

  • @CavemanJesus4Life He was a policeman...why?

  • @dharcoon

You're kidding right? its 2 completely different vocal styles. Barlow is a lot deeper like you said, owens sings in almost falsetto normally then gets up to the falsetto in a lot of the high notes, difference is owens can actually hit and hold a note while in falsetto, barlow cant, he just goes as high as he can in a whistle fasletto, which is what most people do. Like people have said, the vocals and song in general were written around owens' vocal style.

  • @metaldrummer4444 agreed 100%

  • @metaldrummer4444 Atleast Barlow seems to give his all at every song he does. Tim sounds like he is having a cold here. You are supposed to scream "LIKE A MORTAL SACRIFIiiiiiiiiiCE"

  • @PennyDreadful1 Well it is really "LIKE A MARTYR SACRIFICE!!" but yes you are right

  • @metaldrummer4444 Have you ever heard Ripper try and sing Barlow's songs? Did you hear him attempt Dracula? It sounds like complete shit. You hear Barlow sing this song live what happens. He struggles with the song immensely and completely tries his ass off and does EVERY single high note. While adding in his deep voice. Ripper doesn't even attempt to sing Barlow's songs in a deeper register. Not to bash him, I love Ripper too, but he can't sing Barlow's songs at all!

  • @metaldrummer4444 So Ripper doesnt compare to Matt with the Dracula song.Check THIS live version and maybe,MAYBE someday you'll understand that Ripper can only sing Judas style song and nothing else.As Matt in my opinion can fit to Iced Earth ONLY!!! It's so simple!!!

  • @metaldrummer4444 Uhm, what? Did *you* ever watch the graspop video? Ripper sings certain parts an octave lower than Matt, like when he sings "like a martyr sacrificed" or "we are the bane of man", only Matt sings them in Rippers original key (or tries to) and those are the parts he has trouble with, Ripper just avoids them.

No offense to you or Ripper, I love his work aswell, but he's nothing better at this song than Matt, he just "cheats" a little bit to make it sound more "matched" ...

  • @metaldrummer4444 Because this song is made with and for Ripper. Try to listen to Ripper when he's singing Pure Evil..so much fail there!

  • @metaldrummer4444 I think matt's voice sounds better than ripper's voice, he sounds more right in iced earth, not saying ripper's voice isn't amazing.

  • @metaldrummer4444 Matt And Tim both were great in iced earth. Both had their own music within the band that they were both great at. Both deserve respect both are great

  • @metaldrummer4444

Yeah even though this isn't The Ripper's best performance, but still so much better than barlow graspop

  • @metaldrummer4444 yeah barlow could have problems, but barlow is much bettttter than ripper ( he still awesome ) barlow has much more power than ripper

  • @metaldrummer4444

In this song maybe,,, But in all true iced earth songs ripper cant even get to barlows feet...

  • @metaldrummer4444 That day wasn't one of barlow's best.if you see other lives of barlow singing ten thousand strong it's clear that barlow does a good vocal cover while ripper can't sing that well barlow's songs

  • @metaldrummer4444 its piss funny tho haha

  • 3:26 says it all.

Matt Barlow couldn't hit that note with his nuts chopped off. Not that he's a bad vocalist, but with Ripper, you're talking about a guy with a four-octave range.

  • @xRazorFistx

Matt Barlow gives much more power to the Iced Earth songs.

Let Tim sing some of the old stuff and it is crap.

The songs are made on the voice of the vocalist.

Matt can get high to listen to Pyramaze - Year of the phoenix...

And matt has much more feelings in his voice!!!

  • Obviously you've never heard Tim's version of Angels Holocaust.

  • @Wyndrax

    Yes i have heard it.

And i still like the version with Matt more.

His voice has more power then Tim.

Tim is more like screaming and Matt sings a song with so much feeling.

But it's just what you like.

  • Yeah, Matt's version is definitively more dramatic. Still, Ripper's is more aggresive. More "Hey dude, it's the fucking Angel Holocaust! I'm gonna rip your wings and shove them up your ass!!".

  • @manslayer8132 true barlow is the better singer and he can hit high notes but sometimes he struggles to hit those notes that ripper can hit with ease. its a bit unfair to be comparing the two since barlow is something special he's in the same league as dickinson, halford, kakko etc. you are right about the vocalist thing. they are the ones who complete the song

  • Ripper is the best singer of younger generation. He's voice is hard in low register and he's highs are just glass shattering!!!!!

  • only kurch has an 4 octave range

  • ripper is the man . barlow got nothing on him . terrible voice !!

  • hmmm.

    ofc im serious ;-)

sometimes made good job on live shows,

but very often he sounds like shit which didnt know what to sing. this video shows it. Stalbow 0:02 is the only one high note he originaly hits :) he just sucks on this video. i like him very much from Judas Priest, but...

  • Ripper sounds terrible in this video. Anyway, even when he sounds perfect he can´t beat Barlow as far as ICED EARTH music is concerned.

  • Who says he doesn't hit high notes?

    At 0:02.......are you deaf?

  • @Stalbow

    He ususally hits higher.

  • guys guys ripper is awesome you gotta admit, but he just doesnt have emotion unlike barlow who has a lot of emotion

  • Tim "Ripper" Owens is pretty much the only singer that I'd include alongside Bruce "SCREAM FOR ME!!!" Dickinson and Rob Halford (back during the "Painkiller" days, anyway- since then his voice has just gone downhill). He's got the range, the power, the delivery, the charisma- the lot. JUDAS PRIEST really lost something great when he was forced out.

  • Halford, Dickinson... well, brilliant singers, but when it comes to singing live on stage no one can compete with the Ripper!

  • True, my friend.

  • @rav906 Are you serious?

  • Listen to Judas Priest's Live Meltdown, or his other live performances with Iced Earth.

  • Bullshit!!!!!He always hits the high notes!!!!!!!

  • People who didnt do a stupid ">" thing > The rest of you idiots who cant just enjoy the music without fighting.

  • are you on crack? the rippers some much better.

  • ...so much i mean...

  • briliant

  • ...Perfection.

  • Your personal opinion > everything else.

  • No doubt ripper's a better vocalist then Barlow but he just doesn't fit as well as him

  • correction Barlow>Ripper>Halford

  • Dio>Ripper>Barlow>Halford

  • Ripper>Barlow>Halford.

  • halford,dickinson> anyone else

  • @JeffKinsac hardly you fool

  • yea tell me this brendanb1236 my band does ripper voices im the voices i can hit every tone and volume then barlow can dont get me wrong barlow is a cool guy and vocalist but the ripper wins all and i win all i do death metal this stuff and metallica vocals but dont tell me that barlow does the best i bet you the sing from judas priest can do better job then barlow can but yea so if u want metal ask my uncle which he was rised on it.

  • What? Please learn to speak.

  • ripper owns all in things screaming

its sad that he was kicked out of iced earth

    greetz from germany

  • the drummer is cool :)

    btw Ripper ftw

  • i love both ripper and barlow...this is a great tune

  • no ripper can keep up barlows blows dust but my boy ripper blows fire

  • dude barlow owns ripper. all ripper could do was sing his songs off GB, FA, and Self titled. he trashed barlow songs. where as barlow can sing anything from self titled through horror show and crucible. and hell he does a better job at doing ripper songs than ripper does on barlow songs. not takin anything away from owens, but seriously he cant begin to compare to barlow. all he is good for is high. he couldnt pull of dante's inferno if his life depended on it.

  • They are both great singers. If Ripper is good enough to replace Halford in Judas Priest then he must be good.

  • That isn't Richard Christy on drums is it? By the way, Ripper blows Barlow out of the water, so you all can go fuck yourselves

  • That would be Brent Smedly (may have spelled his name wrong). And yes Ripper Rulz

  • Ripper Kick's ass!

  • essa música é do ripper, barlow não canta ela bem...

  • See? Ripper is struggling with it too. I bet you Barlow's studio version will be worthwhile.

  • Great song I've already heard very happy =)

  • that's brent smedly right? monster.

  • Damn¡¡¡ this song is too hard, he looks tired, even Bartlow can't sing it well.

  • ripper is very good

but bartlow can sing, just look the videos, and you will see =D

  • Ripper is god !

    Best song of them imo

  • you have right!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DALE OPORTUNIDAD AL CHICO.....
