@abacacus I have exactly $600 in the turbo conversion. That counts everything from the used eBay turbo to the used junkyard injectors, intercooler, pipes everything.
@abacacus Yes. This video was a test before any tuning was done to the engine. It now runs routinely 10 PSI with the transmission being the limiting factor.
Neat! We're trying to get all the "boosted" A-body front-wheel-drive GM cars on the a-body discussionboard. I've got a 2.8 turbo, also. It was my first turbo conversion!
damn I just donated an 87 century =[ the cv shaft snapped and the car just wasnt worth fixing, but its projects like these that have always made the a-bodys intriguing to me
I donated it mostly because I just have wayy too many cars and I'm only 17 heh. The buick was pretty beat up and had no exhaust and pretty bad body damage. I love these cars too and there was always the dream in the back of my mind to build a turbo v6 like you and skalor have done. These cars are lighter than the W-bodys and are awesome sleepers as well. Maybe in the future when I am settled down I would love to have a turbo 6 as a daily driver and a v8 as a race car
Yes I understand! I remember your post about doing a turbo setup! It will eventually happen if you want it you will make it happen. Hold out for a "special" car to start with. Maybe a loaded 2-door coupe, a Century GS, Eurosport VR or something like that for a turbo candidate!
I _think_ that rattle is the exhaust pipe, in a place where I needed to trim a bracket. There is one place that is about 1/4 inch off the body tunnel. I can trim about 1/2 inch off the bracket to give it clearance.
How much money in that thing man?Been debating a V6 Bucik but I'd like to be able to boost it at some point for semi-cheap.

@davida1hiwaaynet Would you trust it much then 5 PSI though? I'd like to do a minor motor build and run about three times that

How can you not love the spirit of hot rodding being exhibted in its purest form.

@SCBianchi Thank you! Yes I love the "use what you have" hotrodding!

Wow that thing is fast and hell, and you can still cruise in comfort! No harsh exhaust

we used to have a car just like this; it was just about as fast without a turbo - that 3.8 will FLY. i miss that car dearly.

A turbo century? that's hilarious. Great vid man. :)
sirbuick 1 year ago
@sirbuick Thanks! I have THREE turbo Century's. One has a 400 HP or more engine!

Can't say much about the car but the quality pic from your camcorder is above average for the vids found here on youtube.
carcano38 1 year ago
@carcano38 - It's the video function of a Canon Powershot A470 digital camera. It records 15 to 20 minute videos on SD memory cards.
The car has gotten much faster as I have worked on the tune. Need to do a more current performance video.

Awe too bad about your car getting donated over a CV shaft! Yep I like working on these old cars.... no idea why mabe they're what I grew up around?

Yes definitely I love all of those sporty 2-doors, someday I'll have one, Untill then I get to admire the work of others

You have one with the available gauge package. Temp. and Volts. Very nice.

Very cool...love the turbo whine! What was that rattling noise when you first turned?

Oh that sounds easy enough :) I really like the dash in those cars.

Holy cow man, 0-60 in like 6 or 7 seconds?
leftventricle 2 years ago
Yep. Can't wait to get back home and do some chip tuning!
Wonder what the 0-60 time for this engine is, stock?
David
davida1hiwaaynet 2 years ago
Well, I know the 2.8/3.1 cars were right around ten seconds, and a stock 3.8 doesn't put out too much more, so I'd say around nine?
