I've never heard of Sköld, but what a nice piece of music ! Alterberg is imitation-Rachmaninov. Sibelius has by far the greatest individuality, personal style. His mid-part of Symphony 3: it smells like pines in the sun. What a great idea, to make collections of composers per country ! Thanks
@alexpjp You are right many people dont know that Nordic or Germanic is Difrent than Scandinavia,as Scandinavia falls in the group of "Nordic people"but not all Nordic people are Scandinavians.
@plenty02 I'm afraid you've got it the wrong way round. Nordic countries (i.e. the ones that are part of The Nordic Council) are Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Finland - but Scandinavia is only Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Look it up :)
So Finland IS a Nordic country, but not Scandinavia (though at the end of the day, it's all just words - and they're all lovely!)
@alexpjp Ah ok. I was just going off what the "Go Scandinavia" site said. haha! I'm no expert in the subject :P Just an oboist. haha And yes, they are all very lovely! :)
I can recommend Ture Rangström (Sweden), Wilhelm Stenhammar (Sweden), Ernst Mielck (Finland), Niels Gade (Denmark), Johan Halvorsen (Norway)...and many more...
Thank you very much for this video. I watched it for the first time 10 months ago. Before watchng it, I already known Grieg, Sibélius and Nielsen. But I discovered Kurt Atterberg. Now I have all his symphonies and concertos in CD, and he is one of my favorite composers. I love scandinavian music.
Beautiful video! Some scandinavian composers: Wilhelm Gade, Franz Berwald, Bernhard Crusell, Aarre Merikanto, Armas Järnefelt, J.P.E. Hartmann, Ludvig Norman, Wilhelm Stenhammar, John Fernström and more...
I love Scandanavian music as well! Especially the music of Grieg, Sibelius and Yngve Skold.
Although I love Scandanavian music, there are a few composers that I feel that I should know of, but I don't know, Atterberg, Nielson, Alfven. You have introduced me to their music, and I now I will continue searching through it, if there is any pieces by them that you reccommend, please let me know. Fantastic video.
I believe there's no Piano Concerto No.2 by Atterberg.
Is that Piano Concerto in B flat minor Op.37 ???

actually Sibelius was Finnish, not Scandinavian - but just as great, my favorite in fact.
Don't forget Rued Langgaard, Per Nørgård, Aulis Sallinen, Uuno klami, Bent Sørensen, Hans Abrahamsen, Rautavaara...

@alexpjp Finland is considered Scandinavia even though it's not a Nordic country like Norway, Sweden, Iceland and such

@plenty02 OH MY - I just looked at their website... fail.
Nevermind, no no - plenty of people make that mistake, as did i in FInland by calling them Scandinavians - and was VERY briskly put in my place!
I think with the tourist board - they just must share one company, because most people associate the words Nordic and Scandainvian as the same thing.
The twist with Sibelius is that he was Swedish speaking, and only learnt Finnish later; so who is he? I think in his heart he was a Finn.
