It takes much longer than a year to master grade 8 pieces. I started piano at the age of 9 and did not get to grade 8 until I was 16. I am now apply for my DipABRSM and going to study English at oxford.
A truly magnificent performance from you. Your dynamic colouring of this piece is very good. With an excellent wrist control when playing the scale movements in this piece. With a clear use of the chordal progression and a clear scale understanding indicates that you are a very talented pianist indeed. Keep up the good work.
Woah. You got some serious talent there dude. But i gotta say- your expression is stone hard, no offense. But you are really great at this type of piano pieces.. well- you've got talent, like i said. :D Keep it up, lad!
ur hand finger movement quite smooth...but at the beginning, the dynamite of sound are not very well...but after the middle part the sound dynamite quite nice...
i'm oso a high score-rer of grade 8.. i will giv some comments :D for me, ur phrases r clearly shown, but.. the way eu phrase it is a bit too 生硬 :| & haydn is a classical composer, so the dynamics, especialy on the P part isn't so clear enough.haha. since eu gt a distinction, i am sure that eu can do it better~~ :) keep going!
I did this piece for my ABRSM Grade 8 and also got a distinction, just over two years ago now. There is no way this is a distinction-standard performance. The notes are largely correct, and the technical runs are very even, I'll give it that, but there's NO dynamic variation, it's not at all legato, there's no shaping or sense of direction. A completely robotic and unmusical performance.
Well done on G8, but if it was a UK exam, I'm sure they would have wanted a lot more 'interpretation' than you offered in this piece. Distinction is surely offered under extreme performance, and I have only ever known 4 pianists to recieve this in my teaching, 2 went on to become concert performers, they had the direction and skill to perform, this, I feel, is bland, and would only offer a pass under serious G8 grading, as you offer no result on the rest of the exam.
BRAVO! Congratulations on passing your grade 8 with distinctions, that's awesome. You should be very proud, that's a real achievement and you play wonderfully!
I passed my grade VIII 2 years ago and played this as one of my pieces. I was 18 then and definitely could not play as well as you are here. Congratulations - God has given you a great gift here - use it to His glory!
the kids amazing....only a grade 2 here but catching up slowly but steadily...lol...AznPwnageFTW?...wtf identity theft?....what a load of bull...the kid is great...so no need of being jelous!
WOW! You're amazing! Screw what those other people say about emotion-- that's something you will acquire over time. Technique is just pure hard work, and I admire that! Great job!
i am a 8th grade exam taker. I agree he doesnt fully understand the dynamics and emotions of this piece. But i will also say he does exceptionally well for his age especially technical wise. Most people have trouble understanding the emotion in pieces. But i will say he definitely has the potential to do so =)
Hey Azn easy to give all this big talk.....so where's your youtube video with all the emotion then? The proof of the pudding is in front of you....this guys good man, and u got no right to run him down, you wouldn't have if u were a real musician....
Ha. Man what a loser you are....this isn't about me. I said a true musician never runs another musician down. Do you even get that or do you need English classes now? If you don't get it now while you're wallowing in pride about your playing ability, u soon will, mate - life teaches everyone to be humble.
only probably cause youd steal the video of this kid, play it on a cd in the background and pretend to be playing.
also, someone who's actually good at playing their instrument doesn't go around being like "oh yeah your just jealous because you aren't as good as i am" unless they're being sarcastic, which clearly, you are not.
Diplomas....waste of money. If this kid wishes to study music then he should do so by the usual means. Here's why.... DipABRSM = 160 smackers....nice! LRSM....£420 - still worth it?? How about this then(!)....FRSM...£600...I think not... Anyway, he's a fairly good pianist for his age(as far as I can tell), in term of technique, but the examiners of the diploma exams are searching for the music behind the notes...just getting the correct notes is skimming the surface.
Really marvellous & awesome..... it was one of my 1993 LTCL performance pieces took me long to master the 3 movts. How i wish all of my students can play as good as you. Keep up the good works. Now you are eligible to go for your ATCL or DipABRSM. All the best.
@flyhilos hey i take it you're a teacher, can you please tell me if there is ANY way to de-code examiner notes? i mean im looking at them now and it honestly looks like a turkey stepped into a puddle of ink and ran across my page!
When I first attempted to read music I gave up by the time I got to 3rd tune, which was a Waltz.. but I went back to it, now im half way throught by grade 2 book.. but I still play by ear bcoz some tunes are easlier to play like that at the moment
lool i played flute when i was very young aswell, i just found it so much easier to remember rather than read, it distracts me and then i end up getting it wrong
My teacher tries to teach me to count the timing .. in doing so I mess the timing up ^^ - Two hands playing - Two eyes reading two lines of music and all the dynamics, one foot pedalling one beating a timing.. and they say split the brain in just 2 ???
your flipping awesome but puffyjoe stop pretending to be modest everyone knows ur not and mizzyuri stop boasting it doesnt suit u x sunshine rock on and teddystone ur kl x this was played like god would play the drumz x
is that in the B section..? im in the middle of that, i recommend The Last Snowdrop, much easier, if its in the C section then i recommend Mozzie, and in the A section i recommend Rondo
@ejc2006 whoah! I started when i was 7 and am 14 now, i'm only on grade 5!!! :o but then all i did for the first year or so was learn notes and play simple songs. xD
Hmm Im trying to get an idea of the spacing between the grades, since I never had a piano lesson it's tricky to know what level I am (I taught myself). Does anyone know what grade the first promenade in pictures at an exhibition is?
Improving from merit to distinction isn't really that hard. I agree. With a little more practice, it shouldn't be that hard. One thing that helps when you play the piece is to play it with confidence. Good luck on your next test. :) It helped me a lot to get grade 1-8 all passed with distinction. Again, good luck!
I admire anyone who puts up a post of themselves playing on YouTube. But you really need to correct the wrong notes in this. And you play it rather aggressively and snatch too much at the ends of the phrases. But you've done very well for your age and you've done well to gain a distinction at Grade 8.
The control, is gorgeously wonderful, but I think you you played Haydn abit too, hard.... Which I think it should be played 2 volumed lower, as long as I turned down the volume of my computer, it is GORGEOUS
Incredible.... The only comments I would like to make is your posture. Don't you think u sitting a bit too low? your wrists were sunk most of the time....Due to your youth and talent, u r able to overcome all the obstacles. Moving forward, u may want to review this......
You handle the scale passages with great ease and you make it sound quite clean. However, your touch is far too heavy. The chordal accompaniment in the left hand and the chord at the end of each section are far too "bangy" and need to be as loud but with less pressure. Perhaps it is partly due to the piano, but you must relax your wrists. Also, sit closer to the piano by making your bum sit at the edge of the stool. This will help to keep the wrists lower. Congratulations on your distinction :)
I really think this is the hardest in the book, and by far the nicest; well done mate! Ok, as someone pointed out, a little harsher than I'm used to, but you play those scale runs with so much ease. 'Fraid I am sticking to the Mozart (B3) though. Well done on your results, I'm doing my exam in December. :)
you should sit an inch or two higher :) get a higher chair if you dont have adjustable stool, the angle between your upper arm and your forearm should be 90 degrees, not less like it is in this video
There are many wrong notes in this performance! Check the score! Also, too heavy throughout. It is Haydn and lacked a lot of the grace. You are very lucky to get distinction, maybe the examiner took into account your age. Also the slurs, you accent the second note, when the first note should have emphasis (i.e, around 1:40). Very difficult piece for sure! I struggle with this!
nice job!

This exam has three sections: Baroque, Classical, and contemporary. So it's a mix of all three.

I got 26/30 for this piece on exam, and played much better with exam's piano. Maybe I will load the another one later.

He accents the 2nd notes because there is an accent on teh 2nd note!
