  • What an AMAZING scene this must have been in 1951 ! ! I think the sheer fluidity of this rivals any current SFX creations. You can imitate nature, but you can't duplicate it & I think the film makers made an OUTSTANDING choice setting Debussey's 1910 composition to this.

    I've put 12,000 songs on 550 playlists, for 320 artists & every year since 1900, over a century of music from around the world. My channel faves are actually super-faves, the best 110 videos I've found & this is now included!

  • @chkjns And I thank you for putting it in your favorites so friends can hear it. It's mesmerizing.

  • @VirtualGamer42 I grew up in a Florida town where Esther Williams filmed a movie & left a HUGE pool behind where our band had yearly photos ! ! ! !

    At the first instant, I know she is swimming underwater here, yet younger people will have no idea that Miss Williams was the most incredible underwater performer in history - she is actually doing an underwater ballet here & the editors have made the water VANISH ! ! ! Amazing cinematography ! ! ! !

    Hey chuck;

    Once again thanks...

    That was graceful talent-

    only enhanced by the exchange of music and FX.

    Thanks for the post-

  • @VirtualGamer42 Thank you for your comment on this clip! I really can't remember the melody used for the original, but between James Galway and Claude Debussy, I felt my substitution couldn't be too far off base! I'm very glad you approve.

  • @chkjns Much like Howard Keel, I'm on "Cloud 9!" Your wonderful comment, and the fact that you've included this in your faves makes me very proud indeed! As for the film makers deciding on using Debussy, the music was my choice. Frankly, I don't remember what the original audio was, but recall that it made little impact on this beautiful scene. Once again, my grateful thanks for your notice!

  • @varadero1839 I'm even MORE impressed now! It takes quite a mind to 'see' this scene through the music you chose. Composer/arranger Stu Phillips is a big fan of Debussy. I forwarded this to him & actually got a brief but kind reply ! ! ! To find a piece of music exactly timed to your video is simply AWESOME ! ! !

    I will try to make this my featured video in the near future, you are a consumate artist ! ! ! ! I give you as many stars as Esther blows bubbles ! ! ! ! !

  • Simply enchanting. Thank you for posting this. Beautifully done.

  • @Medusa22 Thank you Medusa22! Not hard loving Ms. Williams, and this had to have been a unique "early" mixing of "flesh and fantasy!" Happy to hear from you!

  • Great video, and synchronisation skills. However 'La fille aux cheveux de Lin' would not have been my choice for an underwater sequence with Esther Williams. I would have chosen the same type of arrangement, but with music from one of Esther Williams' musicals, e.g. from 'Easy to Love', that identifies her.

    By the way, beware of the big bad wolf, who is getting ready to suspend my account again. My survival is hanging from a thin thread.

    Beautiful work nevertheless, and thank you for posting.
