  • Still remember seeing Chris Live back in like 79-80 with The Animals and Eddie Money at the Agora in Youngstown, Ohio...I became a fan that night...and this is my favorite De Burgh song!

  • "You're not the one who gets calls from head office all the time, asking about stolen shopping carts. You're not the one who waits to go to a Chris De Burgh concert for three and a half years so I can go in and miss the encore of "Don't Pay the Ferryman" because I'm on the phone in the foyer talking about stolen shopping carts. I'm the one who gets those calls Bubbles. Not you...me." - Gary the Mall Cop

  • I have been a HUGE fan since my days in college - my room mate introduced me to his music and from there I was hooked...

  • the fans are going off

  • Exceptionally talented man.

  • I went to so many of this concerts years ago. Loved it. I played this song so many times, it drove my mother mad!!!

She passed away today so one last time mam.............don't pay the ferryman xxx

  • Heard this "sung" on an episode of MST but had never heard it. Didn't know he was the one that sang "Lady in Red". I love this song and this version is my favorite. Listen to it everyday now.

  • THE PASSENGERS ON THE TITANIC PAID FOR THIER TICKETS OR WON THEM ETC IN DIFFERENT WAYS, WHO PAID FOR WHO OR WHAT AT THE END OF THE OTHER SIDE? AND WHO WENT LOOKING FOR WHAT AFTER AND DURING THE TROUBLES THAT LAY AHEAD;-) THE JEWEL OF THE SEA IS AS CALM AS PAYING A HIGWAY MAN;-)

  • Chris de Burgh fans are the kind of fans EVERY artist wants! They know every word and cherish every second of his performances! I saw him live in Halifax NS back in the 80's and it was one of the BEST NIGHTS OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!! What a performer!!

  • Still Chris' best song - and the best band he ever had - thanks to Danny and the fabulous Ian Kojima, they were just great - loved the concerts of the late 80's

  • that was excellent...thanks for posting it...wow...I'm getting old...HA!

  • There are two songs that, for me, just have unmatched brilliance. This song and This Is The Sea by the Waterboys. Anthemic classics that have a certain magic. Don't Pay The Ferryman gets the rhythums happening from the very outset.

  • @littlejervis this was actually me commenting here, didn't realise the site was open in his channel. Sorry Jervis.

  • The video for this song was the first one I ever saw on Friday night videos. (that's pre-MTV, interwebs for you youngsters)

  • I so want to see him in person... He is an awesome singer/songwritter...

  • Wish I'd been there!

  • Not only is his music great but because everyone can sing along he gets the audience involved like no-one else on the planet. Fabulous performer and brilliant video!

  • I absolutely agree. I have been listening to him for 20 years. What performer! Love the video too.

  • This is the best live version of the song.

  • looking out on a windy sky, watching seabirds as they fly on a summer day,on a summer day....

  • Chris de Burgh is amazing live!! That's the sign of a wonderful singer/songwriter - how good they sound live not how they sound on a cd.

  • you're here again. all these songs on my favourites list on my pc....x

  • he talks about the acheron the ferry man of the dead on river styx

  • Chris de burgh is pure class. Love his music. Good Irish man.

  • Late 80s. Newcastle to Edinburgh on the A1 with this playing at about 2-3:00am.

Wide road, few lights, rolling farmland with stone walls and the occasional tree line.

Looking far ahead, seeing all. Corners. Heel/toe down, wide radius, apex then the acceleration, clutch-less up. Roundabouts. drifted on the throttle.

Distance signs ticking off the miles to dawn/Edinburgh/breakfast. Racing the first light.

An English breakfast was magical after the trance like state the drive induced.

  • don't pay the ferryman unless you are fed up with your life.

  • g2, I am fed up. But I refuse to give up!!!Charon will never get my 2 coins. I will be the chief engineer on the first Star Ship Enterprise. I refuse to give up!!!!I have a rotten attitude. So what? It's mine and has served me well. Why change? =Stefan=

  • He's talking about the River Styx. And the Ferryman who is hooded. Death Guys

  • are you serious? my GOD how insightful! i never would have thought a rock band from the 80's would sing about mythical characters! this totally opens my eyes!

  • i,m the ferryman.. and the otherside is where you go when you Die!!!!!!

  • Hey, Charon, glad to meet you. Or, didn't you know that was the name of the of the ferry man over the River Styx?? =Stefan=

  • yeah and the song tells about an ancient greek story

  • What does he mean "there's the ragged hill - and there's the boat on the river"?

  • lol guess ragged hill means a ragged hill,,ie uneven craggy bleak hill..The song called dont pay d ferry man,,ie a guy who takes u across water or river on his boat..ie dont pay him till he gets to other side of river..cos u mite pay him and he mite do a runner,or d boat could sink..

I took a ferry ride in egypt,,

i paid d guy ,he could not start engine,i said hit it with ur sandle,,he did and the engine started lol..Philae temple cool place.

  • use ur imagination,,Its a dark damp nite you r on one side of the river,a river surrounded by ragged hills ,U can c faces in the ragged craggy hills,,faces of evil, this making u afraid.U need to get to the other side of river where the lights of a small village can b seen and safety lies therein..

U c a ferry man with a boat..he is wearing a black gown with hood,,u can not c his face,,but his breath is foul ..Can u trust him to take u to the other side, what choice do u have?.Pay or Not ?.

  • its about Death,

  • this song is the best ever... if anyone else sang it, it would be a crime! Chris De burgh ROX!!!!

  • About Voices in The Dark i could not heared Hansi Kürsch and Thomen The Omen Blind Guardian Voices on this Video-On-Stage-Song about Forgotten Tales.

    *FEIX*

  • uuuh, this is australia ,we speak engish here, not just jumbled words from oogedie boogedie. GO!

  • YEAH it's Beyond the Law time

Chavez y Cahvez and William H. Boney

    ARE BOTH SUNSET RIDERS!

but who is blue in Saloon of Sunset Riders in jeans-dresscode about Django never needs me. Desert-Wiccas could be Native Indian Dangerous ... on MAME Emulation!

  • in my humble opinion:

The "yeahahyeahayeah" is the Chris DeBurgh RED ALARM SIREN TRY that Chris DeBurgh is the only singer versus the Nihilisum of male voice right!

    So silent waters are deep!

  • May all other male singer for Peter Alexander has to rip their voice-organic-strings out of malfunction or go straight to Armageddon!

    *FEIX*

All except Chris DeBurgh men failed to sing before!

Voices in the Dark none seen are Auditum anamed!

    *FEIX*

  • i don't really know but i will only go to concert if i am able to pay myself with own worked for money to pay me as ferryman concert like this one.

Versus Chris DeBurgh every Metal-Singer is a transsexual bitch of bothering feelingz.

Chris DeBurgh forever as motivator go to concert or i shall die alone.

Mr. DeBurgh lives into this song nor like all other singers i watch.

Woman pendat to Chris DeBurgh is Milva!

There is no business like showbusiness!

  • Wow, great live version of a great old song. Deep beat, and he sounds pretty good.

  • Love this song, grew up to it in the 80"s,and made the rest of the family listen as well and converted them!

  • Love this song. I got The Getaway album because of it. Interesting take on the Greek myth of Charon, the ferryman who took the dead across the River Acheron to Hades. The myth said that if you couldn't pay him, you wandered the river bank for 100 years. I think that this was the source of the practice of burying people with coins on their eyes.

  • hey, a lot of garbage was recorded, and released in the '80's. (Never mind, today, I don't particularly calassify bycicle horns and police whistles as music). This song stands out as a jewell. And I am NOT a Fantasy reader. Give me hard sci-fi anyday. (Heavy on the Sci). =Stefan=

  • i payed the ferryman. and now look at me. best years of my life wasted.

  • It was this song that resulted in me getting The Getaway album.

  • almost forgot about this one... sweet tune

  • Does this concert was related on DVD? Please for link.

  • Disgustingly good tune. I hate to love it. But oh, oh how I love it.

  • Cool Song!!

  • this is one hell of an awsome song!

  • Actually Banging!

  • Actaully Banging! Proper Cheeze
