  • Nystrom plays and fights without a helmut so this causes him to get all the close decisions IMO

  • nystrom is probably the most underrated player of his era.he could skate, fight and score big goals.that islander team had so many all stars on the team.

  • McPhee would probably be in the top 10 of toughest P4P fighters if his career lasted longer. I agree Stan Jonathan and Wendel Clark were tougher. But Gary Howatt, um no., a terrific team player, many fights, but usually lost vs. heavyweights. However, another guy for toughest P4P ever is Bob Gassoff of the mid 1970s. Only 5'10" but beat the shit out of most opponents and most fighters of the day were scared of Gassoff and slept a lot easier at night after his death in a traffic accident.

  • This was voted fight of the decade for the 80's? Maybe they should've looked at a few more scraps before casting their ballots. Good fight but "best of the decade"....come on.

  • great memories really in this one.

    Both were real warriors.

More dull start but exciting end(going toe to toe at one point).

Nystrom outlanded Playfair, showing his good technic in this good scrap.

    NARROW WIN goes to B.Nystrom.

I think still Playfair is higher on my Top20 all the time list than Nystrom.

Nystrom was a guy who fought a lot of draws and winning narrowly as Playfair beated clearly his opponent quite often.

    It was their biggest difference.

    Playfair was more scared fighter.

  • The toughest pound for pound fighter of all time, in the NHL was easily George McPhee, was was listed at 5'9" 170lbs... Fought guys like Nystrom, Scott Stevens, Dave Brown, etc... Shit, George and Rudy Poeschek even bloodied each other during a pre-season tilt, and Rudy was a big fella too...

  • @sradss1 Stan Jonathan and Danny Gare weren`t bad for their size either.

  • @sradss1 -- LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you've got to be kidding me????.... George McPhee? you must be a real homer for McPhee. He wouldn't even be in the top 100 pound for pound NHL fighters of all time... get serious dude, that's ridiculous.

  • @classicNHLfights - Classic, you're clueless if you don't think McPhee was one of the toughest P4P fighters. Remeber we are talking P4P!

  • @tedfio1tedfio1 -- you're another moronic homer... McPhee was tough and was pretty scrappy but he wasn't the toughest pound for pound fighter of all time... Stan Jonathon, Gary Howatt, Wendal Clark... the list goes on on tougher pound for pound fighters than McPhee... you clueless clown

  • @sradss1 McPhee vs. Brown lasted about 3 seconds. Clear mismatch.

  • How does this qualify as agreat fight. Not the best from either of them

  • Great fight between two of the best team guys of all time

  • Clasic scrap. This was Warner Wolf's "Fight of the Decade" for the 1980s!

  • This fight was in the later part of the 1970's.

  • Great video! Bobby Nystrom was pound for pound the toughest fighter in the history of the NHL. He wasn't a big guy, he just fought like one.
