I'm really not sure why they weren't bigger... They were QUITE popular in the NE and Maryland/Virgina, but they were never nationally or internationally known, like some other groups like the 4 Seasons and the Supremes...
I have been picking song after song by this group to check out, and I am blown away. They really made some good records. I wish they were more popular. I wonder what the members are up to now.
I remember the Royalettes back in the day. I was a kid in the 60s and I do remember them doing a lip sync on TV dance show in our city. They were doing "It's Gonna Take A Miracle." When I hear these songs including "I Want To Meet Him" they were unsung heroes. What great arrangements and vocals. Does anyone how the members are doing today?
During the early 1970's, Sheila Ross worked at the Playboy Club in Baltimore. I had a friend who was a Bunny and she told Sheila that I was a Royalettes fan. Sheila gave my friend her phone number and told me to call her. When I called her she told me that she didn't have any of her own records. Imagine what a thrill it was for me to play her records for her over the phone while she sang along! She picked the songs! For a girl group fan, that was pretty much IT!!! What a wonderful memory!
@kurtsupreme What an incredible memory for you, and an incredible story for the rest of us. And on another note.....why is it that this song didn't just chart huge?? I don't know the music industry at all....and back 45 yrs. ago I'm sure it was completely different than today. But what causes such a misfire?? This song had it all. I guess it just never got in front of people's eardrums for it to get any reaction much less any traction. Life can be so bizarre. Joel in Tucson
@naderchaser Yes, I was very fortunate to have lived during the golden age of the girl groups along with other greatl male vocal groups and solo artists. The Royalettes were really never promoted heavily on the national level. Despite their great vocal stylings, terrific songs, and arrangements, they were underplayed on the air waves. "No Big Thin" was big in Baltimore along with "It's Gonna Take a Miracle" and "I Want to Meet Him." As much as I always adored it, this song got no radio play.
Just can't enough of this tune. Love Bill Medley's production which reminds me of two of my favorite Righteous Brothers songs,"See That Girl" and "Stand By". And The Royalettes, everything they sing is pure magic.

It's a shame the Royalettes weren't more popular, I love Sheila's vocal style. I would have liked to hear more from them than just 2 albums' worth!
