I'm honestly saying this because I know how both Nikon AND Canon work. Canon is difficult to use because they don't give you the information inside the camera like the Nikon does, you have to literally open the manual-I know its a pain but it helps. And Nikon everything is just in there-so like whatever. Honestly I like Canon better, you just have to know how to use it before ranting on how bad canon is.
Wen I first bought my 50d I did the exact same thing you did with the focussing. I debated on either the nikon d90 or the canon 50d. I have always been a canon user so I went with the canon. The 50d is a great camera for someone who knows what they are doing. The button layout of the nikon different from canon. I like my canon and will continue to buy canon. The only nikon that I would buy is the d700. When buying a dslr do some homework on knowing the basics of photography.
Umm I prefer the XSI...And for the record Image quality is not within the body of the camera...it is the type of LENS that you use that produces the best image..SO Canon HANDS DOWN!!!
If you're going to hate the camera just because the live view is 'crippled' then you should stay in the point-and-shoot zone because live view isn't big with dslr's outside the entry level area so if your serious about slr photography get used to not using live view, it's just something they use on entry level dslr's to help you make the cross from point and shoot to slr. and for the record the XSi does have auto focus in live view
Ei thanks for that, i got a d60 by the way and i was about to exchange it for a canon 1000d because i thought it has some great features. but after watching this i'm gonna stick to my decision. thanks dude.
Just to clear it up, you can auto focus in live view on the canon, to do so you have to set it up in the custom settings, i know it seems stupid for it not to be on already but there are 2 different auto focus modes for live view, one is fast mode which lifts the shutter and focuses the other is live mode which uses contrast focusing and takes abit longer but doesnt require the shutter lift. Also for best quality you have to use the canon in RAW mode as its jpeg compression is poor quality.
Uhm, I just want to say, Why would you buy an slr if you are just going to use the auto settings? really 100% of the people that have slr's (that I know) know how to use the camera in the manual settings. Please, if you're thinking about buying an slr just to look cool, and have no interest in the manual settings DON'T! it's like throwing an extra $200.00 away, when you could buy a point and shoot.
Note: i'm not saying this guy doesn't know how to use manual modes. I'm just saying.
oops, i accidentally rated you one star because i thought you were going to say the canon was better haha, i think i may like the higher end canons better than nikon, like the 1ds mark3 over the d3x, but at more semi-pro or entry level bodies, i think nikon kills.
o, and i like canon and the shutter place, and the silver isn't silver, and i respect both nikon and canon, but i have a canon printer so i go with canon, it's real easy to print pics
is there a big price difference in the xsi and d60? cuz right now I still have a Point and SHoot and i want to get a SLR but there the xsi and d60/d40 are so competitive that i don;t know which one!
O ok good, but I'm still tryna decide whether to get a nikon or canon... my canon point and shoot s780 has like TONS of noise when taking photos... and another thing I heard too is that the canon's slr's don't have much colour or vibrance... anyways I may get the XS instead of the XSI as it's cheaper and it has less mega pix resulting in less noise perhaps... what do you think?
Canons are better in point and shoot then Nikons. I prefer Nikon in DSLR. Yes, you heard correct Canons are less vibrant than Nikons. I think Canons have less noise just by a bit but noise really relies on several factors mostly ISO and lighting conditions. I prefer Nikon because their pictures have more depth imo and that is just an opinion get whichever camera feels more comfortable in your hand you can't go wrong with Nikon or Canon dslrs.
while I agree that live view should be available on auto, you should NEVER use auto. At LEAST go to aperture or shutter priority. And, I dont want to question your taste, but WHY did you go out of your way to buy a silver SLR??? THE LENSES ARE BLACK OR WHITE, THE BLACK BODY IS BECAUSE IT LOOKS PROFESSIONAL! Maybe a white lens on a canon would make sense, MAYBE, but thats only if you're using the enourmous multithousand dollar L glass lenses. you sir, are a fool
At first, I was dissappointed with the colour vibrancy as well. However, if you go to the menu and set your picture style to more saturation and sharper image, the pictures turns out great. You can switch picture style very easily and I have set a few depending on portraits or landscape.
lol, that's not reasonable to switch camera! You saw good reviews, but does it suit you? Sounds like you don't know about DSLR camera that much, do you? You could've got D40 for your first camera. Just an advice tho.
you obviously don't know how to use a dslr. both cameras are capable of producing great pictures, if used right. reading the manual will help too (e.g. autofocus works in live view).
I also agree with you..I guess he doesnt get what the phrase automode" means.. Soon as he started carrying on about the color tone I felt he was an idiot, but i gave him the benefit of the doubt.. my mistake.. He should learn to use a camera before complaining about how he doesnt know how to use one...LOL
i went from point and shoot 2 the D70 so worth it i looked at so meany cameras canon and nikon it dont mater how big an LCD or body it is its all about the picture in the end i will never buy canon i love nikon
It's pretty obvious you are a halfwit who has no clue about how to use a camera, so I would recommend you take that back and by a little coolpix or something the XSI is not for noobs.
And it does focus in liveview mode you nitwit, you just don't know how to use it.
Nikon does an infinitely shittier job, Canon's are legendary camera's. Learn how to use something before you start trashing it.
LMAO, it's obvious that it is your first DSLR.
Stop talking shit about something you don't understand.
First of all, you need to get your facts straight. Your review has no basis because you don't know how to use a the camera or its functions. The reason your pictures came out badly is because you probably just used the settings out of the box without customizing. It's true that Nikon pictures look better otb but if you didn't want to have manual control, you should stick to your sd450. I'm not a Canon fanatic, I own both the Nikon D40 (much better than D60) and Canon XSI.
Get the D40. It's the best bang for the buck (much better than D60 because of larger photosites and faster flash sync 1/500 vs D60's 1/200) plus you can use the saved money to get the very sharp 55-200 f4-5.6 VR.
I traded my XSi for a Nikon D80, and I'm glad that I did. I fell for the larger screen and live view, but it's not true live-view. It's a pain. The D80 view finder rules.
I agree that each person has a right to have their own preference on which camera to buy and use, but please, PLEASE, read the owner's manual on the XSI and learn how to properly use it before bashing it. I understand being an amateur, but be an informed amateur before posting these reviews. It's okay to like the D60 better but I feel you can't bash the Canon before you properly know how to use it and have given it a thorough run-over. That being said, I am a personal Canon man.
I don't know how you could be a Canon fan and know nothing about them. The silver is the same silver they always use, the shutter button is in the same place as it's been for years... and can you not use a viewfinder? Why would you wamt to have the extra shutter lag in sports mode? The camera would be unusable. I mean if you HAVE to have your image on the screen buy a sony. They focused heavily on their live view because they're more focused on amateures...
I think you like the D60 IQ a bit more because Nikon set their EV on their entry level cameras a bit higher, so pictures look warmer. But you can always push up the EV on the Canon to get the same colour temperature. Or slide down the EV on the Nikon for bright conditions.
The 450D/SXI has an APS-C-Format Sensor and 12M ist definitely not the limit for this Format!
This is only a compact camera problem because these days the pixelsize is allmost under 3µ
that basically means you would need to put 37M to an APS-C Sensor to get pixels that are as small as on compactsensors. On a fullframe sensor you would need 96M!!!! to endup with to small pixels
xsi is the best camera. Now i personally think the d60 has no chance so i compared the d80 against xsi check out my video response: Nikon D80 vs Canon Rebel XSI/450D
real photographers use the viewfinder, manual focus and shoot at the lowest ISO setting in manual mode while choosing the apertures that best suit the lighting conditions.
Man, I can totally understand you. I am also a newb in dSLR and I am still in process of searching and my choice constantly switches between d60 and XSi. Don't listen to these people. This is not Cnet or anything like that. Everyone has a right to share what he/she feels about different things. Don't have to be a pro for that. And you don't claim to be one. Hope you're happy with your d60
and second the picture quality on the xsi is far better then the d60, you just probably like I said dont know what your doing and were shoting in auto mode! and PLEASE if your going to make another video, know what your talking about and with the voice you have just save yourself and dont talk! Just my 2 cents. Have a good day
Okay, he doesn't like the Canon. So what? Its personal choice and he's expressing his opinions on youtube. Sure the Canon has "liveview" but who really needs it? Not many. If you want to make a statement on Canon, do so but without so much non sense. Its just not right man.
First of all dont talk or give advice about something you dont know, cause aparently you dont know anything about DSLR cameras or should i say the xsi. You dont have to focus the way you did, theres a button for that so I dont know what your talking about, and what Nikon has live view? please tell me, the D40? No, the D60? NO, the D90? Yes but it also runs for 1,300.
i own a nikon d60 and an xsi. if you shoot for jpeg, the d60 wins hands down, but difference is clear once you shoot raw where the xsi is the victor. so consumer = d60, prosumer = xsi.
I did the same thing - returned the Canon 450D (or Rebel XSi) for the Nikon D60 VR Kit - as I wasn't impressed with the Canon at all. I have my own photographic business and have owned many Canon products in the last six years, but I'm becoming less of a fan. Live view is crippled on the Canon (though it actually can autofocus, with two different modes). I am far happier with the D60 as a compact take-out D-SLR and I'm looking forward to getting my Nikon D90 kit soon. It's all personal choice.
I'm getting either an xsi or a D60 very soon, so i've been round shops comparing just practise shots and such, but i guess feature-wise the xsi is a beast.
I respect your opinion man, and if you think you made the right choice, you certainly did. I mean, honestly, people have different tasts, so whichever's more comfortable for you, you got it.
sorry I thought you kept the canon xsi. You are a moron. You should have changed the picture style to achieve your desired image quality and maybe the lens you got was messed up. 450D rules bro.
A lot of you got so personal on this video... I thought it was only an opinion by the author, so com'on, give him a break~ I have to say that I am neither Nikon or Canon fan, but Minolta. But then I wouldn't go around and tell everybody that Minolta is the best bla bla bla. Just have fun with what you ejnoy best, like what menoats said.
A lot of you're idiots, getting all personal because I insulted your brand of choice. Feeling like you have a sense of loyalty to a brand is retardation. I say that I am not a professional to give people an understanding specifically that this is a newcomers view.....they're both good cameras.
I love my XSI...and I have no noise and good picture quality, just look up xsi on flickr, the problem is you dont know how to take pictures. Either way..they are both entry cameras. And you really need to get speaking lessons btw, either you have a cold or you got problems.
btw, how can you give a review if you dont even know what your doing?
This is really foolish. Returning a camera because you read good reviews about another? Always try it out then decide. You should always upgrade after you figure out what you really need. Also, image quality is hardly important. What really truly matters is how well the camera stays out of your way. Whichever camera has the best interface and usability would be my top choice. You could barely tell the difference between pictures from my D40 and D200. The D200 is just quicker and easier to use.
Your a moron. You even tell us your no professional and this is your first DSLR camera, that explains the whole reasoning behind returning. You don't know how to work the god damn camera in the first place.
I bought the d60, then brought it back in order to get the xsi. the xsi Is worlds better. you might have gotten a bad kit lens, they have been going around, and if you got a second lens you would have seen a higher increase in color, sharpness and detail. and by the way live view does have auto focus, just have to read the manual, its very easy to use. THE XSI IS FAR BETTER THEN THE D60, in my opinion that is
Nikon vs Canon will be an endless battle and we'll be the real winers if we´re smart. I have searched every review of both cameras, most say that the Xsi is better but they're only comparing features and numbers that have nothing to do with real picture quality but if you go to picture quality you'll see that the D60 is better in just every way. The D60 has what it needs to get awesome pictures and it doesn't need more. Win this one getting the D60 and with the change get the 55-200mm AFS VR.
yEp, I got it in a boxed package. Got the 55-200mm and the 18-55mm lens as well. The 55-200mm better quality but its not that good taking pictures with because you have to get back a lot further. =)
there are soooooooo many things that you are wrong on in this video....and its not even about opinions or taste......you seriously need to read the manual and learn how to use the camera......seriously......seriously........YOU DONT EVEN KNOW HOW TO USE LIVE VIEW!!!!!....ITS SO EASY TO USE! HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO USE IT!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!! i can go on and on about quality and what not but im sure youll realize it in the future
oh yeah, also wanted to say that i really like the looks of the d60. . .i've seen photos of it, but seeing someone hold it really makes it look cool heh. . .soooo small! (i like small cameras).
also, there's an easier way to focus with the xsi in live view (there's a button for it). . .but yeah, the live view on the xsi is very, very limiting and slow (bested used for macro or still life. . .too slow for anything that's moving).
i actually liked your vid. . .i was a bit suprised that you weren't happy with the xsi, but everyone has their own opinion.
i LOVE my xsi. . .for me it's more then i'll ever likely need in a camera, and it has produced some amazing photos for me (i shoot in raw, and play around with sharpness, contrast, and saturasion on my computer).
anyhow, i'm glad you found a camera you're happy with. . .and i hope you have alot of fun with it :).
You know what Twitchster that is the thing, I never shot the Xsi in Raw, I was such a newb to the DSLR world I wasn't aware of the features raw unlocks. Either way great to have a good response, and I hope the Xsi treats you good.
I'm honestly saying this because I know how both Nikon AND Canon work. Canon is difficult to use because they don't give you the information inside the camera like the Nikon does, you have to literally open the manual-I know its a pain but it helps. you know what, i think you gotta press the AF button when you're in live view to get it focused.

Hope you're happy with your d60
abetayev 3 years ago 2
and second the picture quality on the xsi is far better then the d60, you just probably like I said dont know what your doing and were shoting in auto mode! and PLEASE if your going to make another video, know what your talking about and with the voice you have just save yourself and dont talk! Just my 2 cents. Have a good day
anthony2020mesa 3 years ago
Okay, he doesn't like the Canon. So what? Its personal choice and he's expressing his opinions on youtube. Sure the Canon has "liveview" but who really needs it? Not many. If you want to make a statement on Canon, do so but without so much non sense. Its just not right man.
tobearockstar0706 3 years ago
First of all dont talk or give advice about something you dont know, cause aparently you dont know anything about DSLR cameras or should i say the xsi. You dont have to focus the way you did, theres a button for that so I dont know what your talking about, and what Nikon has live view? please tell me, the D40? No, the D60? NO, the D90? Yes but it also runs for 1,300.

ibrahim1x 3 years ago
i own a nikon d60 and an xsi. if you shoot for jpeg, the d60 wins hands down, but difference is clear once you shoot raw where the xsi is the victor. so consumer = d60, prosumer = xsi.
digitalbees 3 years ago
I did the same thing - returned the Canon 450D (or Rebel XSi) for the Nikon D60 VR Kit - as I wasn't impressed with the Canon at all. I have my own photographic business and have owned many Canon products in the last six years, but I'm becoming less of a fan. Live view is crippled on the Canon (though it actually can autofocus, with two different modes). I am far happier with the D60 as a compact take-out D-SLR and I'm looking forward to getting my Nikon D90 kit soon. It's all personal choice.
Cliqueography 3 years ago 2
I'm getting either an xsi or a D60 very soon, so i've been round shops comparing just practise shots and such, but i guess feature-wise the xsi is a beast.
I respect your opinion man, and if you think you made the right choice, you certainly did. I mean, honestly, people have different tasts, so whichever's more comfortable for you, you got it.
purpleyorange 3 years ago
I love my canon xsi. You made the right choice bro. The image quality is excellent and the size is just perfect.
eoa05 3 years ago
sorry I thought you kept the canon xsi. You are a moron. You should have changed the picture style to achieve your desired image quality and maybe the lens you got was messed up. 450D rules bro.
eoa05 3 years ago
I seriously laughed out loud after reading this. Thank you for that.

lol all sorts of hate since the last time i've checked these comments.
just wanted to say i checked out your photos over at deviant, and am really impressed :). . .looks like you're putting your d60 to great use.
wish there wasn't so much hate on your vid, and hope your having fun.
take care.

A lot of you got so personal on this video... I thought it was only an opinion by the author, so com'on, give him a break~ I have to say that I am neither Nikon or Canon fan, but Minolta. But then I wouldn't go around and tell everybody that Minolta is the best bla bla bla. Just have fun with what you ejnoy best, like what menoats said.
ikev0423 3 years ago
10 months late but thanks. I agree Minoltas are awesome use to shoot with them back in HS and developed the film on my own.
menoats 2 years ago
A lot of you're idiots, getting all personal because I insulted your brand of choice. Feeling like you have a sense of loyalty to a brand is retardation. I say that I am not a professional to give people an understanding specifically that this is a newcomers view.....they're both good cameras.
menoats 3 years ago
I love my XSI...and I have no noise and good picture quality, just look up xsi on flickr, the problem is you dont know how to take pictures. Either way..they are both entry cameras. And you really need to get speaking lessons btw, either you have a cold or you got problems.
btw, how can you give a review if you dont even know what your doing?
trilic7 3 years ago
This is really foolish. Returning a camera because you read good reviews about another? Always try it out then decide. You should always upgrade after you figure out what you really need. Also, image quality is hardly important. What really truly matters is how well the camera stays out of your way. Whichever camera has the best interface and usability would be my top choice. You could barely tell the difference between pictures from my D40 and D200. The D200 is just quicker and easier to use.

epic fail.

THE XSI IS FAR BETTER THEN THE D60, in my opinion that is

i dont like the rebel xsi im saving for the nikon d300

Nikon vs Canon will be an endless battle and we'll be the real winers if we´re smart. I have searched every review of both cameras, most say that the Xsi is better but they're only comparing features and numbers that have nothing to do with real picture quality but if you go to picture quality you'll see that the D60 is better in just every way. The D60 has what it needs to get awesome pictures and it doesn't need more. Win this one getting the D60 and with the change get the 55-200mm AFS VR.
c76plus 3 years ago 2
yEp, I got it in a boxed package. Got the 55-200mm and the 18-55mm lens as well. The 55-200mm better quality but its not that good taking pictures with because you have to get back a lot further. =)

the live view is a pain on the xsi. . .and i don't know how anyone completely brand new to the camera can figure it out right away.
he does mention that this is all just his opinion.
and personaly i think he picked a great camera.
both the xsi and d60 are amazing.
i'm just glad he found a camera he's happy with. . .and why shouldn't he be? from what i've read, the d60 is an amazing little camera.
twitchster77 3 years ago 2
there are soooooooo many things that you are wrong on in this video....and its not even about opinions or taste......you seriously need to read the manual and learn how to use the camera......seriously......seriously........YOU DONT EVEN KNOW HOW TO USE LIVE VIEW!!!!!....ITS SO EASY TO USE! HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO USE IT!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!! i can go on and on about quality and what not but im sure youll realize it in the future

i guess you can say that but then your just choosing brands.
WhoTownBoy 3 years ago
oh yeah, also wanted to say that i really like the looks of the d60. . .i've seen photos of it, but seeing someone hold it really makes it look cool heh. . .soooo small! (i like small cameras).
also, there's an easier way to focus with the xsi in live view (there's a button for it). . .but yeah, the live view on the xsi is very, very limiting and slow (bested used for macro or still life. . .too slow for anything that's moving).
thnx.
twitchster77 3 years ago
i hear you on not knowing about raw. . .hehe the learning curve is very steap (i still don't know half the things my camera can do).
i think the most important thing is just finding a camera you personaly like. . .who cares what others think.
besides, it's a nikon :) can't go wrong there!
just don't tell my xsi i just said that lol.
thnx.
twitchster77 3 years ago
i actually liked your vid. . .i was a bit suprised that you weren't happy with the xsi, but everyone has their own opinion.
i LOVE my xsi. . .for me it's more then i'll ever likely need in a camera, and it has produced some amazing photos for me (i shoot in raw, and play around with sharpness, contrast, and saturasion on my computer).
anyhow, i'm glad you found a camera you're happy with. . .and i hope you have alot of fun with it :).
thnx.
twitchster77 3 years ago
You know what Twitchster that is the thing, I never shot the Xsi in Raw, I was such a newb to the DSLR world I wasn't aware of the features raw unlocks. Either way great to have a good response, and I hope the Xsi treats you good.

This video is so boring all this stupid kid does is talk on and on.

Read the manual!! There is two different auto focus mode in Live View.
japi1987 3 years ago
Never! I'll read a manual when I hit my late 50's! OR when they come out with a manual that reads itself to you.
