  • for me the albums after ozzy left were the best I was never a fan of his vocal style.

  • Wow, this brings back memories! Fucking classic album!

  • Mi sobrino Elemiliano, sale en la portada.¡Quiúvole!

  • It's kind of a strange mixture to put a blues singer on top of such dark, spooky riffs. It's pretty good though.

  • first heard this album in 1986 when i was 14. Will never forget it and always think it was the best Black Sabbath album with out Ozzy.

  • The best singer ever.

  • This is the only non Ozzy album that I listened to. It is a great record. Ian Gillan fit the dark sound of the album. They make fun of the cover but I think it is excellent.

  • @MisterCrowley1972 live evil with dio is incredible

  • i believe that both iommi and gillan later regretted this collaboration but the odd mismatch produced soething genius in this track. it is quite unique and a one off. would never have lasted though on further songs

  • The leader singer sounds pissed off!

  • I had hoped at the time, that Ian would stay on w/Sabbath. His vocal style, despite being totally different from Ozzy or Dio's fit spectacularly well. (as this song in particular proves!) The only truly shameful thing about this album..? is that there aren't more like it!

  • Pure fuckin metal!!!The sound of that era!!I waz in gradeschool whn I got ths album!!Still have to ths day in my pops record collection at his penthouse in long beach so.ca!!Great fuckin album!!

  • I STILL can't quite figure how some ardent Sabbath fans can't quite get by this one....some of the detestable comments I've heard levelled at this album almost defies logic. OK, so it ain't Ozzy or Dio singing....it's Ian Freakin' Gillan!!! One needn't question the virtues of THAT! And Iommi....Jesus....EVERYTHING that man churns out of his amps just reeks of pure metal genius....Geezer's inventive bass lines and sounds...and the last studio album to feature Bill Ward. 'Nuff said.

  • \,,/ =^,..,^= \,,/

  • First i hear this song, i got shivers all around my body! OH MY GOD, PERFECTION!

  • anyone know what this song is about ?

  • @EmperorAlgus I guess it can be interpreted in whatever way you see fit....my own take on it is the total play on the term 'born again...' in a subtle, but snide way, you can almost get a sense that the lyrics beg for just what that MEANS....there's no right or wrong way to be BORN, but to be born AGAIN...there's a method? I think the "...challenge aimed at the hearts of the mutant gods who think we're all the same" references to questioning those ministers who implore us to be born again

  • @TheSetibevol88 ...just to add further....I think it also invokes the idea to find what brings you that kind of peace, and not so much what someone TELLS you brings that peace....

  • Haunted song, imho.

  • Oh my fucking God.. perfection.

  • ths album was fuckin sick!!i can see thru my eyes in the 3rd grade looking out our apt.window over looking the harbor top floor 13th leland..my pops baught me this one too,,the cover allways intrueged me!!!ths song means alot to me!!the vox are at a different calibur but the range & depth are sick with the haunting riffs & leads!!!

  • simply haunting vocals ian gillan sang this song with feeling

  • A Masterpiece!!

  • I saw them in concert Live in the Capital Center in Largo, MD. They were fucking AWESOME !!! again Black Sabbath rises with yet another voice !!! Great album !!! a true SABBATH fan Loves and appreciates all the good stuff !!!

  • @Ptboi2622 fuck yeah!!!!

  • Wonder why they never got Joe Lynn Turner on any of their other albums

  • This is something like Sabbath's ''Child In Time''. But it's way more darker ]:>

  • Ian screams like the fucken Devil

  • ok guys its a great album but it reminds you anything of sabbath sound?

  • JUST DONT LIKE HER PANTIES OTHER THAN THAT.......AWESOME ASS!!!!!!!!

  • exelente.............................

  • I loveee Rock N roll

  • One of the best discs put out by Sabbath . Ian Gillan really added something special to this disc . Probably the heaviest ever from the band .

  • @double42 Just don't like the production, other than that it's a awesome album.

  • There was nothing harder and heavier back in 1983 than this masterpiece and hidden gem of an album! Simply the best vocal tracks ever laid down by anyone, in my opinion. Love this album!

  • yes its a great album ...

  • Sounds alot like something Queen would do

  • Fuck and Bless Ian Gillan. This album is awesome!

  • one of the best albums ever

  • @kluft1986 FUCK YOU

  • @kluft1986 indeed. good song though. sept for dio of cource kind of made it something else. Imagine if ozzy did the vocals, this song would be EPIC!

  • This is the reunion i want to see, Ozzy is a joke at this point, a lot has been said about the muddy mix on this disc but it really has become the sound that defines how brilliant it is,

  • @beauty8116 OMG, I was thinking the same . I would love so much a Born Again reunion. I was so excited about the Sabbath reunion back in 1999, and Heaven and Hell reunion 5 years ago. But Ozzy's become such a joke now that I'm not even excited anymore.

  • @666mathew are you fuckin kidding no one can front sabbath like ozzy what kind of crack are you smoking dude this new records gonna be sick its 40 years in the making and their gonna make their first record worth listening to since 1978

  • A very underated song and LP. The mix was crap on the original, but this sounds a bit better.

  • someone just walked past me....and I'm in the house alone

  • @TheMoonunit13 the distant shadows of forgotten champions............hell you'll be born again, or maybe you already are.

  • I bought this album when it first came out back in 83 and liked it the and still like it, it's just a good record.

  • Simple. Brillant.

  • Simple brillant.

  • Always love this when I've been drinking.. Awesome album & I love Ian!!

  • This album: it's been shot down by critics and yeah the sleeve sucks. Sure it's not the most original/fresh or challenging or cerebral Sabbath album but Tony sure chose his riffs wisely for this one - their very powerful and emotional!

  • Loved Gil taking the position as the new throat after Dio left.

  • Ian did a great job on this album.

  • @eldorado61guy Amen!

  • a fucking crime that this record is so underrated..... a true masterpiece from front to back..... excited to hear that Tony and Ian are recording material again...... this one brings back great memories.... long live 83

  • @wolfatnight Really? it's good to know that!

  • I never see this album for sale :(

I guess I'll need to order it online

  • liked and added to favorites!

  • fucking awesome!!!

  • I always associate this song with Daredevil, the Frank Miller comic Born Again.

  • that's Ian Gillan at vocals!!

  • to those of you unaware of gillan's resume, he sang the part of jesus christ on the studio recording version of jesus christ superstar rock opera which is one of the best versions. in my opinion the ian gillan version kicks more ass than the movie soundtrack. the rerecording with steve balsamo, on the other hand, ia juat as good giving justice to ian gillan's style of singing.

  • When I listened to this in my teens, I could often hear a voice in the background going: - You're worthless! Kill yourself ! Good for nothing !

Turned out to be my mum shouting through the keyhole....

  • @HauptmannMeyer Jesus, what a fucked up, hilarious family you have!!

  • Comment removed

  • @HauptmannMeyer dude im sorry

  • @HauptmannMeyer Ahahahahaha! awesome!

  • @HauptmannMeyer You too?...the bitch introduced me to Sabbath and then tried to use it to cut me down in my prime...needless to say, I am the one here still among us. Actually she is too, just A BIT MORE HUMBLED...hehe

  • @HauptmannMeyer Dude ...thats funny as all hell! It's quite rare that I read a POST on youtube and start cracking up...

  • @hyperdog67 Yeah. That was the first time I laughed, right off the bat, in a long time. I didn't expect that punch line. Cheers. And as always, keep on rockin'

  • @HauptmannMeyer LOL:

  • @HauptmannMeyer I heard that voice right now as I was listening to this...Turns out it was my wife

  • @HauptmannMeyer funny !

  • @HauptmannMeyer LMMFAO!!!! Duuuuuude!!!! XD XD

  • when this came out ...I could not wait to record it off the vinal on cassete so I could turn it up and not vibrate the needle and cause feed back ..on the turn table

  • this album is tied for my favorie black sababth album along with every other album

  • i believe they had more to give :(

  • That cover is fucking awesome as hell!!!!!!

  • The best vocalist ever

  • Although the Tony Martin era will always be Sabbaths defining moment, Gillan is a distant second. Great album.

  • @MichellesPoontang Tony what? Are you insane???

  • @MichellesPoontang always nice to see a different opinion out there once in a while. I for one do consider this to be THE best Black Sabbath song ever written, and second best song ever written by any band (nr. 1 being Rainbow's "Stargazer"). However, I do think of the Ozzy era as the best, even though I really love every single track off every single album labeled Black Sabbath!!! Long Live Tony Iommi!!!

  • @JosefK93 STargazer is one of the best

  • @MichellesPoontang ..hahaha..thats a funny comment...I luv Cross Purposes..ButIan Gillan is a distant 2nd to noone..

  • Epic!!!!

  • this should have been the last album, after this they embarrased themselves, shame on iommi

  • @TheTaxman67 I don't agree, Sabbath with Glenn Hughes and Tony Martin did great and underrated albums

  • Saw the Born Again tour with Quiet Riot opening. Ian nailed the vocals on this live. A very different Sabbath show than i was used to, having seen them numerosu times before with Ozzy/Dio, but an awsome concert nonetheless.

  • Just perfect.

  • It is 1986 when I heard this song first time..

    Thank you for the upload...

  • masterpiece

  • I really see why they wanted to change the name of the band with this album. It doesn't sound like Sabbath but it is definitely awesome.

  • sounds like scarface music.

  • @Metallikakka ...wow it actually does. and funny this came out the same year 1983 lol.

  • 4o\m/

  • My favourite song of all time. Simply siblime.

  • I reckon if Gillan had stayed on for another album, they would have written some great songs and developed more chemistry. Love this album though

  • I love this song. The beginning is just so dark and eerie. Such a cool tone.

  • Shit... that part at 2:01 Live must be absolutely beautiful!!

  • I'm curious why this great tune, has so few hits.

  • 5 star from turkey

  • @iluvroknro93 don't say that tony martin did a good job on headless cross and cross purposes

  • saw this show back in the day-you haven't lived until you've heard black sabbath do smoke on the water-totally underated album-one of their finest-i think their darkest

  • My dad didn't listen to this music :C so I only will own Masters Of Reality in vinyl and not this gem of an album.

  • @davidmumma66 Apparently this album was only released limitedly on Cassette tape in America. I somehow have a copy though.

  • its funny when ur kids say omg dad u listened 2 that......kewl...

  • I like a lot BS, but this album is one of the best! I remember those saturdays drinking annd lessent yo this album, BORN AGAIN!

  • muuuito booommmm!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My eyes always separate cuz this tune cuts deep.

  • This is a decent tune, one thing I don't understand is why Sabbath lost the guitar tone and blues based riffs from the Ozzy years after he left. Did Ozzy do any of the songwriting? It seems like Iommi got way, way heavier from this album onwards, and a very important part of Sabbath died in the process.

  • @Anjohl I don't think it had much to do with Ozzy, Iommi's playing just evolved. He never played like he did back in the 70's again though. Still an amazing guitarist.

  • @Anjohl

they all contributed. if anything, sabbath kind of lost their way when dio left. the stuff afterwards is not nearly as good as the stuff from ozzy/dio.

  • @Anjohl most of the other songs on the album are more blues based ! Keep it warm, zero the hero.

  • oh god yeah...I needed to hear this tonight. Love Dio, Love Ozzy...but if you think Sabbath means FORGETTING Gillan...you are FUCKED IN THE HEAD. This IS one of the best Sabbath albums...ever.

  • I really liked this album, and I still do :-). To be honest, I'm not a real Ozzy-fan, and I'm more into Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio, Tony Martin, Glenn Hughes and even Ian Gillan :-). They all had a much more 'singing' voice than Ozzy... For me Ozzy's singing can be really irritating, sorry...

  • @zeroieperdepiep ok is your opinion but you are not going to como with us to rock n roll paradise sorry....

ps: you are going to pop hell

  • @sexi1708 :-) Right, but I do not even have the ambition to go to (any) hell ;-).

  • who was the drummer with this album , not appice or ward right ?

  • @creationoftheworld No, it was Ward.

  • @TheUnbreakableOtaku that is surprising considering that he left after heaven and hell because it felt wrong to him without osbourne , anyway thanks for the info !

  • one of the best sabbath albums-- darker than anything before-incredible vocals-and tony still knows a killer lick but the best album cover of all time is still SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH

  • this song makes me want to ride a motorcycle

  • I don't care what people say, this is one of Sabbath's best songs, from one of their best albums, and the album cover is awesome!

  • Love this song

  • any one know the effects/pedals for this song

  • @dopetoker1990 sounds like a phase and or maybe flanger overdubbed

  • Respond to this video... sounds like a phase and or flanger overdubbed maybe is my guess

  • @dopetoker1990 Sounds like a flanger for the intro part, try an electro harmonix electric mistress

  • Best lp - underestimatad,

    Heaviest lp - underestimated,

One lp - Ian Gillan, go figger,

front to back - HEAVY METAL!!!!!

  • Sad, sensual, sincere, solitary, first of its kind. Born Again and Ian Gillian are a special chemistry that worked. I wonder what he and Ozzy would have accomplished had they colaberated...(?) astonishing stuff no doubt...both being so very unique in their genre

  • love you IAN!!!!

  • Is this where Axl Rose learned how to pronounce "again"?

  • Does anybody have the link to the unmixed demos? And if so, what songs are on it? I heard they recorded 16 songs altogether in this line up.

  • who cares rules

  • 4o\m/

  • I definately dont think this album is as bad as people make it out to be, but it really didnt live up to the potential there was here.

  • @MrLoverofganja this album rules

  • he sounds like the prince of evil...

  • it makes me to wanna cry...

  • Dark Metal does not get any better...

  • poetry!

  • @darkgiu poetry indeed!...with depth and passion...

  • @darkgiu poetry indeed!...with depth and passion...recognized it as such in 1983...'in through my window, deep into my room, the tapestry's all faded, their vague and distant glories concealed in the gloom....and icy fingers of forgotten passions, softly brushing my lips and the tips of my primitive soul"....man, goosebumps

  • @darkgiu just a good seasoned drugs with gillian.. love this album !

  • @Defcon737 There is only one I in Gillan.

  • very unfairly underated whencompared to the dio line up, theywere really onto something good and different, much more rewarding than jst war pigs and iron man redundacy .

  • the more I listen to this song the more I love it.

  • this was more like a sabbath album then the dio era albums were. dont get me wrong i love dio and all the albums he has done with sabbath..but this one just has more of an evil feeling to it..more drudgy and slow like earlier sabbath. sabbath with dio had more of a rainbow feel to it because dio was such a big part of the song writing on those records.

  • great song and great memories

  • best thing Gillan ever did.masterpiece

  • this is the best black sabbath album of all ian gillian brings out the best of sabbath.how sad they only did one album together then the deep purple reunion killed a great future of music for this super star sabbath line up

  • When I hear this song, and listen to Ian Gillan's fantastic voice and song-tecnique, it brings tears to my eyes! Gillan has never sang this wonderful, befor or after!

  • I cant believe the fact that so many people criticize this album! I know i'll get flamed for this but this is an all out better album than heaven and hell! You know what else? This album makes show no mercy look like child's play!

  • :) best, best, best - thats all can say ...

  • For a special kinf of mood.....you can feel a veil of sadness and melanholy over it....

  • @TheJorn15 rather disturbing, dark, and way awesome.!!

  • born again ,,is,,wow is an own universe .....born again is black sabbath in a one night stand ...... wonderfull and sometimes we love it to remember.....well it was so good......
