Thank you for for posting i havn't seen this one. It just would have been better if they went more on the books when it came to Almanzo and Laura but it is a show so they needed to keep the ratings up so more drama the better. It also would have been nice to see a Cap Garland, Mary Powers, and Ida Brown.

In the books Mary never married and Laura didn't marry until 18. That is real life, this is just a TV show. Most of the stuff that happened past seasons 1 or 2 didn't really happen in the books, keep that in mind!

@twilliger123 It's been quite a long time since I've read the books, and if I do remember correctly, Laura was indeed 18 years old when she and Almanzo were married. They had planned to marry in one year, which would allow for him to harvest his crops and secure a home. But a huge storm had destroyed the crops and the house that Almanzo had been building. This circumstance was the reason that their marriage plans were put on hold, not Pa.

@ljcre8ive Sorry, I've been reading the books again and just got done with This Happy Golden Years and The First Four Years. You are correct that Laura and Almanzo had planned on getting married a year after their engagement but they actually got married sooner because Eliza Jane and his mother was planning on coming to DeSmet to take charge of their wedding and were planning a huge church wedding, something neither Pa nor Almanzo could afford so they got married sooner.
