  • "im so young baby there so old gothic religious and tame'

  • I'm in love, I got blazing light, ten thousand miles of ocean...

I've never known the jealousy, the overcrowded pain

I live and breathe the silences, the dust where no man reigns

What these lyrics do to you when you are away from home travelling...anyone who has just arrived home on a long haul flight, from a much higher latitude in the northern hemisphere; who has visited crowded overseas cities; who has stood in the red earth of the heart of this country knows what these lyrics feel like.

  • One of Mossy's best solos at the end

  • Just makes me wanna get my old WB holden ute back and go crazy in the dirt....

  • Mean song..meanest band...

  • Year 12 at Kidman Park High in Adelaide.. I remember spending all of my money on this album... fucking classic... 1st time I played Bow River and this song.. well i just melted... too epic for words... I still have THAT FEELING every time I play this album to my New York mates and family... converted many a Yank to Chisel..

    RIP Steve Prestwich

  • Moving Don Walker lyrics as always. Evoking a sense of a time and a space that was quintessentially ours. They are our sound. That's why they didn't go big overseas. I'm glad they didn't.

  • This guy -- Jimmy Barnes -- is right up there with Robert Plant & David Coverdale long, long before Axl Rose & the other wannabes. What an incredible Australian rock singer. He has that soul, spirit & drive that makes rock music what it is. Axl has great pipes for aggressive rock but lacks that special soul Barnes has in spades. The band is top notch & existed since '73. Not to be under estimated....they can stand next to the world's best & possibly blow the others off the stage. ****

  • @lastrada52 thanks for your kind words for a band who is part of the Australian psyche; trying to communicate what they are about to folks who didn't grow up with them is like trying to explain the meaning of The Beatles or The Stones to aliens! FYI, Chisel were deeply influenced by American blues & early rock (as in as far back as Chuck Berry early!) and later Free, Bad Company etc as well as Zeps. Google 'Just How Many Times' off their first album.

  • @pinballsmile - You're welcome pinballsmile. I became aware of Cold Chisel through Don Walker himself -- I worked at a film co. in NYC in the early 80's that distributed & promoted Australian-New Zealand films. One called "Freedom" (trailer on YouTube) w/the late Jon Blake was on my schedule & I needed soundtrack copies to cross-promote. Several Walker songs are on this with the late Michael Hutchence one of the vocalists.

  • I shall also concur. Truly the best album, but how lucky are we that all of em are fantastic.

  • I'll concur. East was too produced. This had that raw aggressive edge. favourite chisel album

  • Dam this is a good song and most probally their best album.

When this one came one the dukebox at my local pub there was a good chance of things geting well out of hand quickly.

  • thanks for this. one of my favorite albums
