the sad thing is that the torkelsons didn't get the big ratings on nbc. but it was given a chance, nowdays they'd pull it after 5 episodes. and I also love how the creators, especially Lynn Montgomergy, did not want to give up on it and tried every way they could to make the overall midwestren family values concept work on primetime TV.
the truth is that it would have probably been hard to manage a show where there is 9 main characters. The house in Seattle would have been packed! But I wish they would have said something about them living with their dad, or maybe Hodges and Bootsie get married, it would have made it better for the kids watching on Disney. I adore the show, its always been a mainstay in my life.
The producers must like something about 5 kids but they should've kept the other 2, they were part of the family they couldn't just drop off like that. I doubt they went to live with the dad when he didn't care about any of them. It would've been more fun with all 7 of them living together too.
yeah after watching the whole first season and now watching the second season under a new name, why didn't they mention what happened to the other two children?
Watching this all again, I have a hard time seeing this show as anything but a loosely connected series to The Torkelsons. Many of the same characters, but more a new show than a continuation. That's not necessarily a bad thing (especially if it meant new episode that wouldn't have come), but I would have preferred more episodes of The Torkelsons.
I wish they could have shown a few episodes of Mrs. Torkelson speaking to Ruth Ann and Steven Floyd over the phone to acknowledge the fact that they DID exist. While they might have been the 'least' liked of the original kids, I feel they still played a part in the Torkelson family events. I remember when Becky left in Roseanne off to 'college' during a moment the actress had to take time off, there was an episode of her in college and her and Roseanne were talking over the phone.
I think after she said you'd think there'd be more of them the mom should of said well actually I have two other kids but they're living with their dad
I miss this show. Too bad the rest of the cast wasn't in it. I keep expecting for Mary Sue to go down stairs and split a bologna sandwich with mr Hodges.LOL
This was a really good show. Too bad that it didn't last long. It would have been a great storyline-we would see Dorothy Jane, Greg, and Molly grow up and go off to college, the parents of the children would develop a unlikely romance and possibly get married....
this was when disney was worth watching and now its all about hannah montana man the good old days how much i missed them! hopefuly now that hannah montana is over they can bring the old disney back? R.I.P Brittney!
i remember lee norris from boy meets world and jason marsden from boy meets world and step by step, but i've never seen this show before. it seems like a nice show, i think i'll watch some of it since its posted on you tube anyway.
I thought it was a cute show but they should have said something to explain the other kids, like "Boarder Hodges is gone - and he took Steven Floyd and Ruth Ann with him!"
Yeah, they just got rid of Steven Floyd and Ruth Ann with no explanation. I guess they figured there wasn't enough room in the new series for them, perhaps because a lot of viewers didn't like them (I wouldn't be surprised). Personally, I didn't miss them at all, and besides, it would have been a bit of a stretch for a man with two kids to take on a nanny with five children of her own. It might have been funny to see Molly and Ruth Ann's personalities clash, though :)
I loved the Torekelsons show. I enjoyed this show too with my mom when I was younger. I was shocked to find out Brittany Murphy had dies. I hope she rests in peace. God be with her family and friends.
This show was the first time I even heard of Brittany Murphy. She has changed so much over the years, but I loved her as this character, even though very few people even know what this show is. God bless her family at this time...
It's just like Happy Days..They suffered the "Chuck" syndrome...they just disappeared like Richie's older brother Chuck and Judy on Family Matters..never spoken of again..
Dorothy Jane was one of my first big crushes, ..28 now and Im still in love with the girl..:)
Brittany Murphy was a cutie too, unfortunately she caught the Hollywood Anorexia Virus...such a pity for such a gorgeous girl.. same with Claire Danes..
LOL "MAn on the moon somethin' terrible happened. Steven Floyd and Ruth Ann were sent to live with pa and the rest of us Torkelson's are leaving Pyramid Corners, to see life on the other side of the tracks. Goodbye Kirby Scroggins, goodbye memories of my love for Riley Roberts, Goodbye Gramma Bootsie, boarder Hodges, and good bye bitch Dreama Donathan and everyone else I have disliekd or wanted to be like!."
LOL. Man on the moon something terrible has happened. Mama had no money to pay the mortgage, and Steven Floyd and Ruth Ann were too ugly to sell in order to get up enough money for the mortgage, and Mr. Morgan's generosity is only going for 3 children. Our names had to be picked out of a hat and Stephen Floyd and Ruth Anne are being sent to live with our father that didn't even want them in the first place."
*Dorothy jane whispers" "At least we know whose mama's favorites were."
I personally care more for the original "The Torkelsons" and would have loved to see that go on. But this series, "Almost Home" is pretty good too. :) These shows bring back wonderful, happy memories... I wish they would be brought back on Disney Channel.
In an episode, I think Millicent said that Stephen Floyd and Ruth Anne went to be with their father for a while. I assume that they will all get together again, which would make for a really interesting episode if it had gone beyond 13 episodes.
That's what I always assumed and it makes a lot more sense. I think Mr. Morgan was way too generous to accept three kids along with a new housekeeper, so Millicent probably had no choice but to send the two kids off with their dad for a while. It happens in real life sometimes, too.
Wow. I miss this show. It was a feel good show. Simpler times back then. We need good shows like this now. But a good natured show like this will never survive since everyone wants to see the rated r and explicit shows. The intro theme took me back. Damn I miss those times.
Also i love how half the cast of early Boy Meets World was in this show. Jason Marsden, Brittany Murphy and Lee Norris were all on there. I guess after this was canceled they decided to use all of them for Boy Meets World lol
Thank you mandygirl777 for uploading this! I've been looking for this on YouTube since like forever!!!! I absolutely love love LOVE this show!! It's just a shame it got cancelled after they revamped it. Most of the great ones usually get axed :( Damn you NBC!!!!!
I can't understand what Chuckie Lee was saying in the scene where he talked back to Molly about her "Beverly Hillbillies" reference. What did he say at the very end, right after he said "...whereas we come from Oklahoma"?
Funny how this show never worked out as the Torkelsons nor as Almost Home. I saw that on the OPENING of the very first episode of The Torkelsons, that there was a character who was supposed to be a butcher that was infatuated with Millicent Torkelson, but he never came out on an episode.... And on the very first episode the There were different characters playing Ruth Ann and Steven Floyd. They were replaced on the 2nd episode. The show must have not been ready or something happened to screw it.
It is common for the pilot episode of any given series to have a different actor or two in some roles, or characters that are credited as part of the regular cast who never show up ever again after the fact. When networks pick up a series, it is after the pilot is made; once they commit, they advise the producers to make any necessary changes that will ultimately reflect what they think will look good on their network.
The Torkelsons and Almost Home are really the same series, just with a format and name change in season two. The ratings weren't all that great in the first season, but NBC had faith in the show early on, especially since they ordered a full year's worth of episodes. The Torkelsons then went off the air for retooling, and returned as a mid-season replacement in February 1993 as Almost Home, with Michael Jacobs now producing.
I think the reason they changed to a spin-off so quickly was because "The Torkelsons" wasn't doing as well as they wanted it to, so they thought that "Almost Home" was a little funnier and edgier.
OMG!! I totally remember the theme song!! Hahaha! I love it! This is the best thing I've discovered all year!!! Mandy, you are awesome! Thanks for sharing this with us.
I TOTALLY forgot that this was called something different than the Torkelsons! But I liked these episodes just as much, if not more! I loved that Dorothy Jane got a chance to be a city girl!
After ending in June 92, the story was later picked up in the "sequel" Almost Home, in Feb 93. In this series, the family could no longer afford to be living in their own house. Millicent Torkelson got a job as a nanny in Seattle, Washington. In this series, Steven Floyd, Ruth Ann did not appear nor were mentioned. Millicent took the other three children to live with Brian Morgan and his two kids; Gregory and Molly.
In tv it's all about budget... They took out Ruth ann and Steven Floyd and replaced them with Molly and Mr. Hodges with the father Mr. MOrgan. It all fits the show budget...
I don't think Millicent would have been able to handle Molly and Gregory while having Steven Floyd and Ruth Anne to deal with. They caused all the problems.
My favorite ep of dorothy jane and kirby was with the egg. I actually thought she started to like him a little bit. I actually respected the fact that Riley didn't want to take advantage of her because of her age, while other guys prob would have. Deep down I think Riley really cared about her. It would have made an interesting ep on Almost Home if he came to see her again because he felt sorry for not saying goodbye and finally confessed his love.
ok thanks! no problem. what WAS ep 5 about? i forgot.
are these eps in order? like i know this one is 1, but the others than 2 & 3, the others are they in order? i really wanna see the ones where, its their sweet 16, the cheating one about the book report, & when molly sneaks out to a dorm room...i wonder if there's a list of the eps, like in order & a summary, i tried on wiki but, didn't really find much. thanks again for uploading these!
ep 5 of the torkelson's was called Poetry in Motion. I had asked the person who posted these Almost Home episodes if she had the rest of the series but I haven't heard back from her as of yet. I typed in The Torkelsons episode guide and came up with one for both series in order :)
It's more realistic to get rid of Steven Floyd, and Ruth Anne. No one would want to take in FIVE children. Also, Dorothy Jane's hair looks ten times better in this series.
Yeah I agree. But they should have at least made a story up ya know? Such as they went to live with their Dad. And yes Dorothy Jane looks better overall in these episodes.
I always asumed they stayed where they were. Just that the Grandma was taking care of them. maybe even with Border Hodges. That seemed to always make more sense, because the dad (Bootsy's Son) walked out on the family.
I wonder why her other two kids weren't on this season... and why they were never mentioned again...
I really miss this show!! Old disney rocks :D

@spldrttn6611-This house has no resemblence to the Golden Girls house. Starting with the fact that it's two story and the Golden Girls house wasn't.

Millicent took the other three children to live with Brian Morgan and his two kids; Gregory and Molly.

well since we don't know for a fact, that, thats what really happened, but we're only to guess that, that is what happened.

Man, i wish there was another episode of the Torkelsons. I miss Kirby :(

They could have mentioned what happened to them instead of pretending Millicent only had 3 kids.
