@Imjustalone1 they can barely survive, it's not as simple as you think. again, it's their environment that shapes them, when you have poor cities with no economy a man has to do whatever, illegal or legal to survive. when you're in a gang at least you have protection and food to eat, rather than scraping for pennies and living on the streets. again, kids follow their parents footsteps, you can't blame the kids when the parents are dead, drug addicts and gangbangers, it's a vicious cycle.

@Imjustalone1 they can but you just don't know these people's circumstances. most of these kids grew up with family, i mean it's possible to join the army, which many do from the hood, but some just don't have that liberty when they have kids and family to take care of at home. have you lived in LA downtown before?

@eitkoml poorer cities = poorer schools = poorer performance. you make a good point there. all you see is liquor stores, gun shops, closed businesses, gang tags and police checkpoints. politicians should fix the economy of the city rather than blaming the symptoms of the poor economy such as gangs, drugs and guns. if our government spent a quarter of what they spent on the war they wouldn't see this, not to mention THEY were the ones dumping crack cocaine onto LA during the 80s contras scandal.
