It seems that most chopin's pieces are characterized by soft and swift play, which Yundi Li are really good at. His fingers are amazingly swift. However, this one required more finger strength and that is probably why he did not perform that well here.
YES!!! I LOVE YUJA WANG! OMG!!! YUJA WANG!!!! I totally agree with u. On top of the sensitivity and technique, her playing for me seems very straight forward, no overly complicated expressions. Her playing represents her so well, young, passionate, a girl full of flare and naive emotions. I absolutely love her.
Yundi Li is a great pianist and really owns at some pieces, but i think this piece doesn't suit him well. I like Richter's version more because it sounded more like a revolution.
@ltran90 It's funny because I dont think it was intended to be 'revolutionary' It was just published during revolution times and was thought to be associated to the revolution. I dont think it was actually intended directly from chopin himself. But i do have to admit it does sound like a bunch of guys fighting guerilla warfare, though i dont think i piece was intended to be that shallow. Hhaahha
@gifgifgifgifgifgif Yundi is magic! I heard him at Carnegie Hall last May, and follow him religiously. He is a fabulous talent. I'm thrilled he was well received in Paris! What was the non-Chopin encore he played, please?
@salviati sorry, I don't know the name, I think it was a traditional chinese piece. Maybe dafuckinmart will have recorded parts of this concert, he often does it for piano recitals at Pleyel. BTW, where are you from ?
@gifgifgifgifgifgif Right! He has a repertoire of traditional Chinese songs that he plays. One is The Sunflower. They're lovely! I'm in New York City. And you?
@salviati I'm in Paris. We're both lucky to be in big cities like this, as it gives us the opportunity to attend such great concerts, I think. I'm a big admirer of Yuja Wang, too : her technique is excellent, she has a great sensitivity and her repertoire is quite wide.
Yuja is a PHENOM !!! She's got the fire!! She leaves one breathless! She's a totally different kind of performer from Yundi. It will be fascinating to watch her mature. They both leave Lang Lang in the dust.
@salviati Yeah, I'm waiting to see the evolution of her artistic journey. She'll be in Paris 3 times in December, I won't miss her !! As for Lang Lang, I've read his bio, and I'm convinced he has a genuine love for the music and the authentic desire to share it. He's good for technical pieces; I'm not so sure for "complex-to-feel" pieces (like Chopin's ones). Let's give him a bit of time.
when is this great artist going to make some more CD's?

This music must have inspired the Music of Rachmaninoff. Similarity here is mindblowing

@salviati yes, it was at Playel; yes, it was the Chopin-only program (except one encore); and yes, the audience loved him !!
