We nearly lost they broke through the first line. Our Dragoons ran them down, we clubbed and stabbed our way through Scotland after this. 'Butcher' Cumberland.
actually when they broke through the line on the right flank(only right flank) they piled through the hole and charge the British 2nd line, only to be caught in a deadly hail of fire by the British 2nd line , who were in a horse shoe like shape, that deadly crossfire was causing 700 casualties per 2-3 mins. And the highlanders right flank early made to the British lines because they had cross a bog, tbh it wasnt that close run, it could have been there was barley any organisation for the H.L
This also was NOT a fight for Scottish independence. Many wanted to fight the brits as they were seen as "english" as were the scots who faught with them. Charles Edward Stuart made no promise to break the union! the stuarts liked the idea of Britain.Plus the jacobites DID have guns and cannons. None of you no anything about this subject. Its clear by the comments. I live 2 miles from culloden battlefield and have read many books on the jacobite uprisings.
Not all highlanders faught with the jacobites. Some faught with the british and some didnt even take part. This was not a british civil war as the highlanders didnt view the highlands as britain. They also were not rebels as that would mean the british were in a position of power over them...which they didnt as their king wasnt the righfull heir so it was void.

they had some french BUT THEY WERE NOT A PART OF BATLLE. THEY FLEED.

what scottish side? it was the Jacobite rebels vs the BRITISH government. there was no Scottish side, it was a British Civil War...do your history...
