actually, if these people are finnish / sami (from lapland, in the far north) then this "pet" wouldn't be a moose, it would be a reindeer- of the sort that pulls santa claus' sleigh. this hand weaned "pet" would have the result of generation upon generation of genetic manipulation in it's dna. this would make it much more tractable and less "wild" because the sami have been herding and culling these animals for just about ever. that's why it behaves in such an apparently docile manner...

a reindeer is smaller and has white and brown fur. i've seen them when i was in finland and they are significantly smaller than that moose. it seems like the people in that film are hunters, so that moose might have been very small when they found it (or killed its mother).

oh, right- thanks... yes, when i looked at the images on this vid and compared the larger animal to a reindeer it became obvious this really is a moose / european elk. from what i've read, moose are much more unpredictable than reindeer, not to mention much larger and heavier and thus able to inflict more harm if they get riled. i agree that this one must have been hand reared and thus acclimatised to human contact (and scandinavian furniture).
