It's expensive because the crabs have been overfished for so long that there aren't as many yet there is still a very high demand for them. King crabs are very big and it takes a long time for them to grow to desired size, compared to softshelled and dungeness crabs which are small and plentifull.

Personally I prefer snow crab to king crab as it tastes just as good, is less expensive, and doesn't have huge needle-sharp spikes all over it.

they are not endangered...infact in Norway it is considered a pest because it lacked a natural predator, and its damaging the fish stocks. The expense is due to the difficulty in catching these crabs, especially in the northern pacific ocean near alaska, where people work under dangerous conditions on crab boats. Of course high demand also plays a role in high prices.

yea, if you frequently watch the Discovery Channel, they have a show called the deadliest catch, which is about the harsh conditions on the crab boats. It is a dangerous job venturing out to the ocean to plant the crab cages.

the price of alaskan crab is mostly because it's hard to catch and it's seasonal and regulated and dangerous. It has nothing to do with supply and demand, go back to your economics class and stop strying to sound intelligent.

Because they're hard to catch, it's dangerous to try and catch them, they're not around all year, and you can't take as many of them due to regulation, there are fewer of them; this, by definition, means that there is lower supply of Alaskan King Crab.

I used to work in a seafood store and we had alaska king crab during season all the time. Usually had some for the store to eat or someone would tip us off and I could afford to just splurge on one. I have to say, its quite overrated.

Is it true? The Backdraft soundtrack is being edited out? I don't have Fine Living here on local cable Tv. I realize that cost of acquiring music rights is a big pain but I think the Backdraft music is one the rare examples which elevates a TV show. I shudder to think what a replaced main theme sounds like.

I do remember almost every other soundtrack being edited due to rights issues but I guess the Big One had to go eventually.
