@CoolConejo *smack* Thats only part of it. People die catching every fish and shellfish in the ocean but most of it you wouldn't need a loan to pay for.
It's expensive because the crabs have been overfished for so long that there aren't as many yet there is still a very high demand for them. King crabs are very big and it takes a long time for them to grow to desired size, compared to softshelled and dungeness crabs which are small and plentifull.
Personally I prefer snow crab to king crab as it tastes just as good, is less expensive, and doesn't have huge needle-sharp spikes all over it.
they are not endangered...infact in Norway it is considered a pest because it lacked a natural predator, and its damaging the fish stocks. The expense is due to the difficulty in catching these crabs, especially in the northern pacific ocean near alaska, where people work under dangerous conditions on crab boats. Of course high demand also plays a role in high prices.
That's very interesting. I forgot to mention the hazardous method of fishing for them. I've read about crab fishing, it's not easy money that's for sure.
yea, if you frequently watch the Discovery Channel, they have a show called the deadliest catch, which is about the harsh conditions on the crab boats. It is a dangerous job venturing out to the ocean to plant the crab cages.
Ok I just realised you guys meant regular King Crab. Yes pretty much any crab is priced based on demand except for Alaskan King Crab. Just wanted to clarify my misread of your posts.
King Crab is expensive because of the high risk fishermen take catching them mainly, not really supply and demand because on season they catch enough, watch deadliest catch on TV if you want to know more!
Ok Muppet, so people don't risk their lives in Alaska fishing for them? watch DEADLIEST CATCH and you will see that you are the idiot! watch?v=LcfE8qaErPs
I didnt say people dont risk their lives, I said it has nothing to do with the price of the crab. If there was no demand for king crab the prices would be low but the demand is much higher than what is fished every year worldwide so the prices go up... go back to school and stop watching tv
Danger money... what a fucking idiot, king crab is fished all around the world not only in Alaska you retard. Why is opilio much cheaper than king crab then opilio fishing is much more dangerous than king crab ? BECAUSE THERE IS A SHITLOAD OF SNOW CRAB WORLDWIDE UNLIKE KING CRAB YOU IDIOT. SUPPLY / DEMAND
Should I SUPPLY my Fist cause your Face DEMANDS it? Anyway, that retarded American fuckface don't know what he talking about with is economics 101 bullshit crap!
the price of alaskan crab is mostly because it's hard to catch and it's seasonal and regulated and dangerous. It has nothing to do with supply and demand, go back to your economics class and stop strying to sound intelligent.
Seasonal, hard to catch, regulated, and dangerous all have to do with supply. Because they're hard to catch, it's dangerous to try and catch them, they're not around all year, and you can't take as many of them due to regulation, there are fewer of them; this, by definition, means that there is lower supply of Alaskan King Crab.
So it actually is supply and demand, you just got supply mixed up with...
I used to work in a seafood store and we had alaska king crab during season all the time. Usually had some for the store to eat or someone would tip us off and I could afford to just splurge on one. I have to say, its quite overrated.
The "Backdraft" theme is gone however its replacement is oddly compelling. It seems to fit quite nicely with the whole atmosphere created by the mismatched dubbed voices.
Is it true? The Backdraft soundtrack is being edited out? I don't have Fine Living here on local cable Tv. I realize that cost of acquiring music rights is a big pain but I think the Backdraft music is one the rare examples which elevates a TV show. I shudder to think what a replaced main theme sounds like.
I do remember almost every other soundtrack being edited due to rights issues but I guess the Big One had to go eventually.
These crabs are nuclear filled. Keep eating it, and in a few years, you'll be walking on all four limbs.

agreed, my mistake. It is more lack of supply why it's so expensive. The demand is clearly there.
