@TheUKfan001 1. HBO couldn't afford to do both Rome season 2 and a full Deadwood season 4. They told Milch to choose between a half season or 2x two-hour "movies" to finish the show. Milch, working on John from Cincinnati was adamant about only wanting a full season, on his timetable. He didn't respond to HBO for months. It costs HBO money to keep the actors contracted, so they were forced to release them, as there was nothing moving forward, which effectively killed the show (no cast.)
