I like this rendition because it isn't concerned with adding little flourishes and details.  The violin is one voice, the piano another, and they interact.

Read online today about the theatre thingy of the supposed meeting of Joplin and Irving Berlin, and this lovely waltz was mentioned. So off to to Youtube, and find this painfully beautiful music.

For the piano? Its way to complicated to teach without reading music. I'm sure there is more simpler versions out there though. Rag Time is one of the toughest types of genres you can play on the piano.

they say - if you cant say anything nice - dont say anything at all - but then you will always have a couch critic who feels compelled to set us plebs straight and show that this is in fact not beautiful because its not perfect according to the world of vranuse - perhaps vranuse you could audio or video a preview of your perfection for us to see and critic! - I for one do not care if its 90 120 - 130 - its BEAUTIFUL and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I find it amazing how whenever people say a song is good, that's their opinion, but whenever somebody says a song isn't absolutely perfect, all of a sudden they're elitists forcing their opinion on everybody else. At least he had a good point. Constructive criticism is the only way things improve, simply saying good things is useless. That said, I think the song was great- I also thought it was a bit fast, but the violin was just great.

I love the Echo and Response in the intro (I play Blues so I take notice of good Echo and Response). I find it interesting that this is one of only 6 waltzes composed by Scott Joplin out of his 50 compositions. His waltzes are a real journey to listen to. This one was composed in 1905 which was the era in which guys like Charlie Patton ushered in the birth of Blues music. Ragtime and Blues have some obvious ties of influence in both style and evolution.
