  • Man I love watching the way he comes home, a truly remarkable athlete.

  • @BigPetrov And he was not a well horse. He had a history of respirotory problems. At his best he was capable of beating every horse you mentioned if they were racing at the same time and raced one another. I think you will find quite a few records were broken at the 73 belmont meeting due to the fast track.

  • @BigPetrov I respect your opinion but i disagree with the timeform rating. His worldrecord of 3.13.7 was freakish even if you took 2 seconds off to allow for the fast track it would still be close to the WR. And he hadn't raced for 6months leading into the arc had no leadup race and got a disgraceful ride and only just lost.

  • Should of recieved a 140 plus international rating. Still holds the world record for 3200metres. As good if not better than secretariats belmont record of 73. Damn he reminds me of the brave the way he storms down the straight like a lightning bolt!

  • @SoulSurvivor79 Yes, but he set the world record for 3200m on an ultra fast track in Japan. Check the times in most of the major races there, like the Japan Cup - all faster than anywhere else, and some run downhill. Also, he lost in the turf race that carries the most weight internationally. There's a reason he only got a 135 rating. Great horse, but one who doesn't compare with the likes of Nijinsky, Secretariat, Kingston Town and Dancing Brave. And Sec's Belmont is incomparable.

  • A absolute machine of a horse! In the top 5 racehorses of alltime. The 2006 arc was a disgrace deep impact was a good 4 or 5 lengths better than the horse that won. The jockey that rode DP is a disgrace the way he rode him in the arc. Hes a hold up horse not a horse that races on the speed.

  • brilliant horse.... and it's all in the pedigree... same family as the brilliant Nashwan and a host of other black typers.... i he'll make a fantastic sire

  • best race

  • best race

  • breathtaking - and i love theway the cameraman had to switch

  • Wow İt is realy cool

  • pffft, easy as you like, what a star

  • here comes forgo

  • Great in Japan, yeah, but in Europe he sucked and was on drugs, he is now expected to be diqualified from the Arc.

  • 'he is still the highest-rated stayer we've had in the ratings for many years.'

  • you are an ass of the highest order...

    Great race and horse...thanks.

  • Kelse99,

Dumb comment. The world's best horse was not 'on drugs' . He was treated for an infection. Timing off. Slow pace, pulled hard, first start overseas, beaten narrowly. He was ten lengths superior to that field.

  • @AldoGodolfus Do you know what his Timeform ranking is? I can't find it anywhere. I'm pretty sure though that it was <135. Which is staggering IMO. His performance in the Tenno Sho in 06 was as good as Sec's Belmont performance JIMO. Consecutive sub1:37 miles is phenomenal. Kingston Rule ran sub 3:17 in the 90 Melbourne Cup. Deep Impact went nearly 3 secs faster. Not sure that he was 10L better than the loikes of Pride & Shirocco but he was easily the best stayer in the world at that time.

  • The aptly-named Deep Impact will be remembered as one of one of the greatest of the greatest of the turf. I only hope he'll be as great at stud.

  • whoa, that was cool!
