I didn't know that Gov't Mule had covered this...it's the first time I heard it. Hats off to Warren and his awesome band for having the musical integrity to cover such an iconic classic. I loved Steve Marriott's vocals and his spirit...hat's off to Warren and the Mule for doing this. And a hell of a job they did with it too!
I love classic rock and find it very rare to find re-makes that are even easily compared to the original..... this, however, trumps the Humble Pie version in every way IMO.
Thanks for posting this up with such clear sound. I love live performances but finding gems like this with clarity is always nice.
@thorinkhalin. Well, that is your opinion anyway. lol. It doesnt have the frenetic chaos that Steve captured, nor does it have anywhere near as good of vocals. But yeah, its a good cover. Guitar is phenomenal, but its Haynes, so that is to be expected.
@cgraber I disagree with you on the vocals. While Haynes, as you put it quite well, doesn't convey that frenetic chaos, the other side of the coin is that he doesn't overdo it. And Steve going over the top with his voice is the one thing that always puts me off a little when I listen to Humble Pie.
Also, when I first listened to this version, I was almost blown out of my chair by how awesomely fat Warren made the main riff.
HUMBLE PIE with Steve the Legend Marriott! it didn't matter who played guitar (Frampton or Clempson) the both were very good players. not forgetten Shirley and Ridley. a very good cover by Gov't Mule......
Gives me the need for more tattoos and a chopper. Warren is the new hardest working man in show business. MULE!!!

I think Steve would agree that Warren's version is Smokin' :)

I saw a chick make love to a guitar pick when Warren tossed it into the crowd after shredding this song! Raunchy!

Bomb tune...Though the one Warren Haynes does a duet with the guitarist from the Black Crows is much better. Check it out.
