  • Reminds me of my Grandmother's old flat, thanks very much for sharing!

  • @ilovecurrytoday You bet. Thanks for watching!

  • This is what you call a "buzzer". Before the era of door bells that played the familiar two-note "ding dong" (on either tuned metal bars called 'reeds' or on tubular chimes called 'bells') you had a choice of two types of electric door bell. If you had a fancy home, you had one that sounded like an old telephone ring. Everyone else had a buzzer. Buzzers were common in small homes and apartments into the fifties and sixties.

  • @JonasClark Thanks so much for such great information on the buzzer. It sure makes sense now why the front doorbell is different than the back in my house. Thanks so much again!

  • @fortiesnutcase What is the front doorbell like? It may have been replaced.

  • @JonasClark The front door and the back door both operate off the same bell shown in the kitchen. They have different sounds that can be adjusted. Thanks again!

  • HAHA! win.

  • @Reaverhobbies Thanks so much for watching!

  • I couldn't help laughing at that doorbell. it scared the crap out of me at first.

  • @jayda4mcrae Thanks. LOL Yep, that bell is enough to wake the dead. Very unnerving. Thanks again!

  • well , that's the most wierd doorbell i ever heared LOL. thanx for the video

  • Can I please get that minute and a half of my life back? Please??

  • @Mikewatchestube I must say I have to agree with you. It sure is a painfully lame video to watch. I must have been getting way too desperate for ideas for videos when I made this. Either that or I was on way too much medication. LOL Anyway, I wish I could give you the time back that it took you to watch this video but I want to thank you just the same for surviving through it.

  • if u ever want to get rid of it i will take it off your hands

  • @bassboy979 I'll keep it in mind. Thanks! I guess it is just something that I have learned to love to hate. Thanks again and for watching this video!

  • @fortiesnutcase thanks for making it, i enjoyed it :)

  • @bassboy979 Your welcome.

  • O.O No words.....

  • @rickzxz Thanks for watching!

  • sounds like an electrocution

  • @emsulich Yep, that's a perfect description! Thanks for watching!

  • @emsulich

Its a bunch of bendable mettal strips on a wheel spinning rapidly, clacking them against something.

  • @ChancesOnNet Thank you for commenting on and watching this video and for describing how this doorbell works. Much apreciated!

  • Was that morse code?

  • @hyderpotter I think it was! LOL Thanks so much for watching!

  • like in the old days lmao

  • the pin ups on the wall are awesome and the posters

  • @Xpermentproductions Thanks so much!

  • my friends house was built by frank lloyd wright and his doorbell is the exact same

  • No kidding? That's awesome! Thanks for watching!

  • Now, how did I just know it would be a Yank?

  • LOL!

  • omg how do u live with it lol my dog is going nuts!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I still jump when that thing goes off and I've been living with it all my life. LOL I think I kind of have a love/hate relationship with it. I love the nostalgia but hate the noise it makes. It's a big joke with my friends and when they stop over they really lay on that bell just to make an awful racket. My dog back in the seventies used to go crazy also when it was rung. Thanks so much for watching this annoying video of mine.

  • wow! that must be annoying

  • It sure is! It really jolts you but I'm so damn used to it now having grown up with it that it doesn't bother me too much anymore but it sure bothers my guests when that damn thing goes off. LOL Thanks for watching!

  • i wouldn't even call it a doorbell! rather a buzz....that thing makes sure u get up at night when someone is at your door....

  • Yep, it sure does jolt you awake. I got woken up by it several times. I should use it as an alarm. LOL

  • LOL its like on i love lucy

  • LOL Thanks for watching!

  • Where do you buy that kind of door bell

  • Actually, I'm not sure about where to get that kind of door bell. I think it came with the house when it was built in 1934. Thanks so much for watching!

  • Thanks so much for commenting on and watching this video! It's a noisy doorbell in here. LOL

  • and i thought mine was the strangest doorbell

  • LOL and thanks so much for subscribing to my videos!

  • no problem

  • My grandmother's house had a doorbell simular to that. Her house was extremely old, even had a sewing room in it with big windows.

  • Sounds cool! But I know that bell can be irritating - but in a nostalgic way. LOL Thanks for commenting!

  • With ose dorrbells, they would ring as long as you pushed the button. It wasn't just a "ding Dong", it went for how ever long you held it. So some kid could tape it down and run and it would ring until you answered and pulled the tape.

I had a friend who could pin doorbells. I could set the pin so that it would cause the doorbell to keep ringing.

  • Sounds really funny! Some of my buddies I grew up with still come over here to visit and keep that doorbell pushed in until I answer the door. Talk about a racket! LOL When I was a kid I used to do the same kind of thing you did except with cars with the old style cars where you could put a stick between the steering wheel and the horn and keep it going. Thanks for watching!

  • Wait until they hit your house with "knockers"? Tie a nut or bolt to a six inche thread. Then tie a spool of thread to the bolt or nut. Tape the six inch thread to the house. Unroll the thread until you are across the street in the bushes. Pull the thread making the nut hit the house. When the people look out, stop pulling. We use to get four guys knocking on one house. driving the people nuts. Sometimes we would have to run for our lives laughing all the way.

  • We must have been on the same wavelength when we were kids. My buddies and I did almost the exact same thing except I used a lead fishing sinker and a fishing line. LOL Funny stuff!

  • can u doo a smoke alarm video

  • I took your suggestion and I still can't pry the thing off the wall. Perhaps the cover plate is hooked on there is some strange way and I don't want to take a chance breaking it. If you have any suggestions, let me know. As for a smoke alarm video, that is a great idea since I have a spare antique one downstairs. I'll try to put that video together today. Thanks again!

  • uh is there a screw on the face plate if there is remove it and i think it might work

  • No screw on the face plate but I do believe my dad had the face plate off way back in the seventies for some reason so I'll hopefully figure out how he did it and I will let you know what is written inside. Wish me luck cause I'm curious myself now like I said. LOL

  • try to squease the sides and i think it might come off

  • Well, I got the cover off. When I pulled down on it it came off but the bad news is there is no writing whatsoever on the inside to indicate anything. Just that big "L" on the front. Anyway, thanks so much for subscribing to my videos! I'll be giving you credit in my video on smoke detectors coming up this weekend from your idea and I discovered that the instructions I had was actually a record. Thanks again!

  • thanks so much and ur a good person thank u ps that is to find out that is had no brand name well u might find out some day btw did it say it on the back of the bell?

  • Thanks very much. Nothing on the inside either. But the back of the bell is screwed to the wall so I can't get to it but I will try and find out what I can about the bell and let you know when I do. Thanks again for your subscription!

  • lol

  • Thanks so much for watching this ridiculous video!

  • it sounds like a donkey with a sore throt geting rape XD btw what is the name of the bell

  • That was one of the funniest descriptions I have ever heard! Thanks so much for making me laugh extremely hard! Btw, I don't know the manufacturer. It just has a big "L" on the bell if that is any help. Thanks again for being so hilarious!

  • you are welcome and is there a sticker on the inside of the unit ?

  • I tried to get the faceplate off but it has been up there so long that the layers of paint have glued it to the wall. Sorry. Thanks again!

  • try to use a box cutter to cut the pant off but dont cut ur self that last thing i dont want to hear (U-U) thanks again u rock

btw wold u like to see my videos

  • Thanks for the advice. I'll see what I can do. I'm kind of curious myself now as to what brand this bell is? I'll definitely check out your video page. Thanks again!

  • wow lol sounds like a pig with a soar throat that screams for his life

  • LOL That was a perfect description of that obnoxious doorbell. Thanks for commenting on and watching this video. Much appreciated!

  • if that went off for the postman guy at 6 in the morning i would piss myself

  • LOL Yep, that would be a real startle with that damn bell. Thanks so much for commenting on and watching this video!

  • My dad has that same doorbell. it really scares the piss out of you. We'd be in the basement watching tv and then the doorbell rings. The video gives it no justice how unnerving that bell really is.

  • So glad someone can relate to this with having the same type of bell. I literally jump when it rings; especially if I am in the kitchen at the time. I remember when I made the video the ringer at the door had some problems but now I have a new doorbell at the door and might do a new video about it and have the microphone closer so it might give an indication just how much of a racket that doorbell makes. LOL Thanks so much for commenting on and watching this video!

  • that dident scare me!

  • I just go deaf when I hear it. LOL Thanks for watching this video post.

  • haha thats great!

  • Thanks so much!

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • You are very welcome.

  • lol, your'e not a fan of large open, empty spaces on your walls are you?...any gap more than 5 inches square gets a small photo in it...

    nice, though...shows that you like.....things

  • Yep, I sure got carried away with putting stuff up on the walls. I definitely go to extremes! Beats painting, I guess. LOL Thanks so much for commenting on and watching this video!

  • back when i lived out on my farm I used to have the exact same door bell haha lucky for me the thing hardly ever got rung XD

  • It's nice to know that someone else has "suffered" with a bell like this also. I'm ver sorry. LOL Thanks for commenting on and watching this video. Much appreciated!

  • Aw, its no problem. *drools over your house* Man, I cant wait for your tour. Your house is a museum. My dad got me into unique stuff. :P

  • Hi Paul,

    John from Merry Olde England!

    Love the door bell.

You seem to have a very interesting home too.

    Like a small museum.

Every thought of doing a guided tour video?

    GodBless you and yours...

    John

  • Hi John,

Thank you for the kind words about my home. I plan to do more videos about the home here and kind of a tour in a sense just in case a few people might find it a little interesting. One of my upcoming videos soon will be of my dad's homemade bar downstairs and some of the memorabilia there. My dad bought this home in 1940 so I grew up here and have lots of memories and really enjoy living here. Thanks so much for watching this video and for your comments. Very much appreciated!

  • That is awesome! Don't ever get rid of it! Can you make a video of other stuff I see in your house? Looks like lots of neat things.

  • Thanks so much for the kind words. I will be putting more items from around the house on youtube very soon. Thanks again for commenting on and watching this video. Much appreciated!

  • I L*O*V*E Your Videos...They Are Funny, Laid-Back, Full-O-Facts and EXTREMELY Entertaining. The Bell Makes You Want To Drive Your Head Into A Wall...Your Tuna Surprise (I Just Named It), Sounds Like Something That My Husband Would Sell His Mother For. PLEASE Keep making These Lovely Videos...I TOTALLY Agree With The Person Who Said That Your Videos Are Folksy. The Only Thing I Don't Like About Your Videos Is Their Length...They're Not Long Enough...I Could Keep Watching...I'm Hooked! God Bless!

  • Thank you so much again for your very kind words. I definitely have more videos coming soon. Thanks again for watching and commenting on my video posts. It is very much appreciated!

  • Yes, that things goes right to one's central nervous system. Actually, it's not really bell-like in sound. There's much grinding and scrapping going on.

By the way, your videos are quirky in a delightfully folksy way.

  • Thanks so much for your comments and for watching this video post. Much appreciated!

  • Reminds me eerily of the buzzer they provide the audience with in Monty Python's Be a Great Actor [in you own home] sketch , wherein the hapless would be actor,is obliged to speak his responses against this sort of prompt . First time I heard it , I had difficulty breathing. Hey- that thing survived all those years without being torn out of the wall in some sort of vengeful fury.I guess someone had the wisdom to install it high enough away from prying hands.

  • Every time it goes off, it jolts me and yes I definitely want to rip it out of the wall. LOL It's so obnoxious but I guess like castor oil in the old days you end up getting used to it and now that it is sort of a joke around here it would be a shame to take it out My friends are cruel because when they are at the door they keep ringing it over and over again and lean on it just to annoy me and laugh. Thanks so much for commenting on and watching this video post! Much appreciated!

  • Hahaha! Now that is obnoxious!

  • Thanks so much for subscribing to my videos and thanks for watching this video post. Yep, that doorbell sure is obnoxious. I just replaced the ringer in the door but the bell is the same and just as annoying as ever. LOL

  • Yeah, but I like old stuff as well, I'd keep it too! =D

  • Sorry, I think I accidentally replied to your comment on this youtube page again after having done so a few months ago when actually I meant to reply to the other viewer above the other day after a comment was left. When I realized my mistake, I removed the reply but I guess it already had gotten through. So sorry about the mistake and thanks so much for commenting on my video.

  • thats a normal apartment complex dooorbell

  • No kidding? Now I have some people to empathize with. LOL Thanks for watching this video post.
