  • very cleanly executed utchari from Ama, now Harumafuji. Only a few rikishi ever pull off such a move at some time in their career. Usually they are lighter, athletic, muscular sumotori such as ex-ozeki Kirishima. Most of the time the effort to pull off utchari fails. If you can imagine such a thing, Akinoshima tried it once against Konishiki and ended up hurting his back!

  • Pretty amazing. Funny to see your old intro now...

  • B00M!! damn that was cool! for sure I thought Ama was going to bite the big one when the opponent got him to the edge.

  • Mongoliaaa!!!

  • Man! Thank you so much for video. Hope you are happy with Harumafuji's (Ama) current achievement of becoming one of the main contenders for cup

  • this really just goes to show that there is alot of power behind all that weight ha

  • Who is the rikishi doing a rather tempered shikiri at ca.1:00?

  • That's Takamisakari - the "Forrest Gump" of Japanese Sumo ;)

    Peace

  • I like Ama and Asashoryou!!! Mongolians powerful!!!

  • wow great match! thanks for the video.

I used to watch sumo when takanohana and wakanohana were in their prime..

  • Amazing Ama Byambadorj.....good luck

  • Ama rocks!

  • I can't wait till Ama becomes an Ozeki. He surely has a lot of strength and flare despite his size.

  • Yep, I hope he holds his nerve in the next tournament. The guy has real class!

    Peace

  • Go Mongolian dude!!! stop at 3:14

  • Yep, it was a magic moment.

A shame that the other guy turned out to be a stoner.

Forget the election, Ama for Ozeki in '08!

    Peace

  • ama is my favourite sumo wrestler

  • Ama is the man! hehe

    Peace

  • hey, you are right about the excellent quality of this bout. It was instantly one of my favorite bouts of all time. One I will never forget.

Thanks for reading positive into my acerbic comment. I can be a bit of an *sshole sometimes I guess ;-)

    Cheers.

  • No worries dude, I appreciated the constructive elements of it, and I totally agree, in four years of following sumo (strictly as a tired salariman watching after getting home from work), this is one of my favorite moves ever.

    Peace

  • Hey everyone, I got some technical corrections from Jasonry on the erroneous passages of my enthusiastic but misguided commentary - I have put the corrections into the video information on the right, and in annotations in the vid. Enjoy.

    Peace

  • Nice vid! you're the man.

Ama's amazing. That's the best move of the year (maybe in years). Wakanoho couldn't believe it. I did believe it because I know Ama's skills and he's spectacular. I hope the guy can reach Ozeki soon.

    Cheers!

  • Hey, I'm glad you like it! I' a big Ama fan too so this was the perfect day out for me. Takanorius suggested I show a replay, and suddenly using this music and doing this came to me. I hope he makes Ozeki too - a great rikishi.

    Peace

  • Favorite! Love the background music :)

Remind me again the name of the rikishi who does the really high salt toss?

  • That sir is Kitazakura - I like to call him the oyaji wrestler growing old disgracefully. He throws too much salt, does guts poses when he wins, grunts when he loses, should have retired a couple of years ago, and is still at the bottom of Makuuchi and top of Juryo doing his thing. I like the guy.

    Peace

  • Thanks also for the nice comment on the vid. I'm enjoying your commentary as well!

    Peace

  • Great commentary!

You may get a phone call from NHK for an English commentator spot. lol

By the way, this Ama'sうっちゃり is already on Wikipedia JA at 「うっちゃり」entry.

According to the article, うっちゃり has become rare technique these days.

Thank you for taking my thought into consideration to your new video, Hikozaemon.

  • Haha! Very nice of you, and the pleasure was all mine. Did you see Tochinoshin did an ucchari yesterday - it seems to be catching on! I'm glad you liked it and thanks for the comment (I was wondering why there are no comments here, I REALLY like this vid).

    Peace
